If you could land on the toe all of your backfoot when doing split jerk, that would be alot better. As landing Airways like that with a flat foot can be rough on the inside of your knee over time. Especially with heavy weights and if u fail the lift
Why don't you ever mention Alexeev pressing 235kg without elbow support (10kg extra) and leg drive? Strongmen have not even come close to old Olympic press records.

Rob Kearney managed to hold the American record at one point because of his proficiency at the split jerk which suggests that its an underdeveloped skill in strongman. I think the push press skill is easier to learn and has more carry over for other events.

You mean side jerk like lu xiaojun?? What you are describing IS a split jerk - generally you need much stronger front squat and also technique to do well, in olympics, almost everyone does the technique that Mitchell does here, What Lu does works only for very few, and he is the only one at the top doing it.

Answering the title question i think split jerking shouldn't be allowed in strong man. Dont get me wrong still very impressive. I just think from a fans perspective it takes away from the pure strength perspective of the sport.
I think it should be allowed. If the athletes are athletic enough to do it, do it. The goal of strongman should the result, not the process, in my opinion. There's no defined way to carry a tire or sack in loading races, for example. Some shoulder it, some belly it. Both are allowed. If the log goes up, the log went up. That's a rep.
Define "athleticism". Strongman is not just about the result otherwise sumo deadlift would be allowed. It's not because it's a completely different lift just like how jerking is completely different from pressing

If you want a strict shoulder press, they've had great results with Viking Press apparatus at different strongman events. But for log, anyway you can get the log up. I don't care if people are Steinborn squatting it, then pressing it. They got the log off the floor and above their head. That's all that matters.

There’s the deadlift and the sumo deadlift and there’s press and split jerk press which lets face it separates the men from the boys .
Keep sumo and split jerks out of strongman IMO. The less technically demanding the lifts are (they are still technical but not like a split jerk) the more it's about raw strength. Also, never again for squat suits/briefs (Arnold) and preferably no more deadlift suits but that ship has sailed as it's all about the 500+kg now. No hate if you are doing them now when allowed but personally I don't want to see it in the sport (I do compete if that matters)...
There have been people who have split jerked log press in strongman before and have been very successful with it. Rob Kearney set the American Log Press Record a couple of years ago by split jerking it. It all comes down to whether or not it feels comfortable for you specifically and if you’re willing to put in the work to master the technique.
I've been watching a lot of their training and I feel thor is gonna do good, but it's his first comp after a very long hiatus. Plus the axel press is gonna be very difficult for him. Moose and trex have done a lot of comps last year and look to be in great shape.

I think if the start position and the end position are the same it should be allowed. The issue with something sumo deadlifts is your end position is way lower. If you done the sumo lift then shuffled in to where you're conventional would be then it's just technique at that point.

My gym has a log and I am really getting into it. Love to see log content! I am still confused about the leg drive at the end. Why is "double dipping" generally not allowed but lifting your feet up is? Thats a form of double dipping, isnt it? Same with the split jerk.
I don’t think the split is the best approach for log- most people fail the log because it starts to drift in front of them and they can’t maintain control through the press. If your split jerk isn’t perfect, and your torso has any kind of forward movement during the split portion, the log we certainly be pushed even further away from your center of gravity, unlike a barbell/axle, where you can keep it over the center of gravity through the whole motion

maaaybe? I think it's common for competitors to try and game the rules a little but after a while the org will change the rules or drop the event. There's a reason the overhead press is no longer a weightlifting event. Strongman still presses like that though, so who knows, sometimes they like the allure of a higher number over the purity of the exercise.
Mr. Moose, I've been following the sport of strongman for a great many years. The way it works is this: You move a weight from A to B no matter how (as long as it is in the rules) and provided the referee gives you the down signal or doesn't disqualify you in any way, and you're good to go :) It's not uncommon to get awarded reps for soft lock-outs on the deadlift or log/dumbbell press, which I personally can't stand. If I were a referee, I'd make the competitors hold the object overhead for at least a brief period, until it's clear the weight is controlled up here. No extra points are awarded if the competitor happens to use any fancy ways. I also hope that stupid fight doesn't happen. What nonsense is that all about? Be careful out there.
Ive always wondered why no one has tried split jerking the log. Could take the record even higher but then again I guess its because logs are very hard and awkward to handle
Course split jerk should because some don't have the leg drive like Stoltmans, Hicks, Biby. Then jerk is required. tbh, it works for athletes like Pavlo Kordiyaka, who isn't best at deadlift, but he makes up for it being an incredible presser

"double dipping" is only disallowed on the viking press, basically. It's totally okay on pretty much every other overhead event.
As above Viking press is no double dipping everything else is just go from rack to locked out however you want

If I were a referee, I'd make the competitors hold the object overhead for at least a brief period, until it's clear the weight is controlled up here. No extra points are awarded if the competitor happens to use any fancy ways.

Ive always wondered why no one has tried split jerking the log. Could take the record even higher but then again I guess its because logs are very hard and awkward to handle
Virtually all U90kg strongmen split jerk the log. The U80s WR for log is 146kg because of the split jerk
Tons split jerk the log. It's not uncommon at all. It's just not as easy as with an axle or barbell due to the size
Course split jerk should because some don't have the leg drive like Stoltmans, Hicks, Biby. Then jerk is required. tbh, it works for athletes like Pavlo Kordiyaka, who isn't best at deadlift, but he makes up for it being an incredible presser

No everyone should have to lift the same way there are records in every lift therefore all lifts need to be the same
