    What you said at the end really resonated with me. People are confused when they see me eager and excited to go into work. Most people just act miserably with certain things. Whether with children or with work there's something to be earned. In terms of a job, there are great connections to be had and lots to learn. I tell people to not take work so seriously and try their best to have fun. And this is coming from a guy with depression. I'm very happy that you are spreading these messages because even if it's only one or two people that internalize it, these are lives you are changing forever

    Your back leg is straight and locked out almost all of the time, which is a big issue in the split jerk because it forces you to go all over the front leg instead of keeping it vertical. It also limits how deep you can get in the split. Foot position in general is not good in the split. But other than that it looks really solid for the first time considering it was an axle, and that you're not super mobile in shoulders.

    Ill go through some tips while watching so ill be editing this.
    If you want a youtuber to watch i reccomend gabriel sincrain
    1-When you finish the split jerk you come back with your front foot and then the back foot,not the back foot then front foot like how you were doing it
    2-the bar has to rest on your shoulders.That way the jerk dip will actually translate to raw force to the bar rather than being limited by your weakest muscles,your arms.If you cant get a full grip fingertips are just fine,arms relaxed kind of like ropes but at the same time you want some tension.During the jerk dip the bar needs to be locked as tight as it can on the shoulders so it doesnt crash and lose power,the acceleration deceleration and the acceleration back up have to be smooth in order for the bar not to crash,arms relaxed no input on the bar.When the bar is nearing the highest point you should already be down and thats when you lock your arms.Also you could push yourself down with the arms but its more complex technique,learn that much later.
    3-Your front leg seemed to be too short forward.Opt for a vertical shin angle and dont let your knee go over the toes easily,have tension or you wont be strong enough(plant it willingly)
    Edit:You look like your resting the bar on your torso but you need to be able to do it with an empty normal barbell,because most likely you will have a lot of tension in your arms limiting power output.Also rest the bar on your shoulders not the clavicles because you will be blocked for air.Keep the back tight but lift the shoulders a bit until it fully rests on your shoulders,it will also be easier to hold with your hands.
    I cant not see you from the side but also during the jerk dip you keep pressure with a whole foot and you bend at the knees only torso straight.
    With higher weight your back leg also seemed to be straight and with a short leg forward it caused to go a little over,keep the back leg relaxed but also strong,its only for balance and rougly 40% of the weight(you want more of the weight on your forward leg)
    Edit 2:During the emom workout,if we go weightlifting rules they wouldnt count because you would press the last bit,but its much easier to fix
    Edit 3:You mentioned wrist position being uncomfortable at 8:50,i cant tell from the front but they should not be straight up,obviously not forward, but they shouldnt also be relaxed completely.You should keep them at a slight angle,kind of like 45 degrees where theyre active and you dont put pressure on the joint but also back so the centre of mass of the bar goes over your head easier

    It's kinda crazy you're doing this with an axle bar, with no whip assist from a traditional 20kg barbell... also - just be careful with your back foot pointing out, ideal would be having the back foot point *in* a little, with the heel off the floor. If you couple that, with allowing the back knee to bend (it's locking out), you'll be able to access all the benefits of the split position, by allowing the back knee to drop, lowering your recieving position for when you're 200kg+. hope this helps, big fan of yours.

  • @dougloden5203
    @dougloden5203 Рік тому +2

    Haven't read all the comments, so maybe someone has already mentioned these points:
    Your dip gets better at heavier weights because the bar is resting on your shoulders, not in your hands, so your hips aren't as in front of the bar in the dip. Generally your hips should drop slightly back, like you're initiating a front squat, when you dip, and you should try to get as comfortable with having the bar (and your shoulders) in front of your hips in the rack position. Of course, this being an axle, and you being so large, makes this difficult, but it would help.
    Your drive is quite good - most cut their drive too short before trying to get under the bar. However, you're rushing your split too much. Everyone else has harped on a good split position, so I won't, but you may find it easier to get into a good position if you focus in getting as tall as possible in your drive, and then - instead of planting your feet as quickly as possible and pushing up on the bar - using the bar to push yourself down as you split. The best jerk lockout occurs when the feet hit the floor at the same time as the elbows lock out. Of course, you don't need to worry about lockout, but it should help your split.
    The other thing that may not be obvious is that ones split position is heavily affected by their overhead position. In your case, because your shoulders have to be in front of your head, your spine extends to keep your shoulders above your hips, which results in more tension on the front of your hips, compromising your hip extension. Your rear leg turning out like it does is a good indicator for extension compensation. Not to say that you won't be able to improve your split position by training it, but, if you hit a wall with it, your overhead position may be why.
    Finally, if you start trying to improve your jerk from this strong starting point, it will probably start to feel like you're regressing as you go on. Everyone who tries Weightlifting after being proficient at a different strength sport knows the feeling! The movement patterns that got you to this point are not the ones that will enable you to jerk the most weight. So, if you're trying to use this in comp, you may be better off NOT trying to improve your technique. Which hurts a little to say, since I wish more people were good at Weightlifting, but that's not your goal, is it?
    Good luck!

    • @22448824
      @22448824 Рік тому

      Trying to get a long throw up on the toes for the jerk is outdated. Tying to reach high on tiptoes is a very weak movement and delays going down to receive the jerk. As well as having to go down further from a higher point. I think everyone does this intuitively. It’s just that trying to get the bar as high as possible initially makes sense. The same goes for the pull in the snatch and clean. Time lost in going down to catch the lift is not a worthwhile sacrifice for bar height.

Plus i just enjoy training the olympic lifts once a week for explosiveness and fun. It does a lot for me though, now i’m starting to use the split jerk on the log too. I would also religiously work on shoulder mobility at this point, you're a bit stiff (naturally so, most people who don't regularly do this and follow a 'regular' strength program are) and takes a while for people to be able to fully open up the shoulders, from my experience.

    You look really excited to be a father. Best Job in the world! I've got 4 kids under 6 years old and couldn't imagine life without them. Children have their challenges, but anyone that speaks negatively about having kids is just a selfish person in my opinion, don't listen to them.

    Looks like your grip width was changing from rep to rep with you being stronger at a little wider grip due to your shoulder mobility limitation. I knew your last rep of EMOM was going to be hard because the grip was narrower than the previous few.

    Mitchell hooper I was reading an article where you were in .”After performing the waiter’s walk, Hooper offered cues to better address shoulder stability during the overhead exercise.
    “Elevated scapula - bring your AC joint to your ear. And actively stabilize the shoulder. Actively squeeze everything around the shoulder. Keep it protected.” Why do we have to elevate the scapula I never heard anyone talk about that when doing shoulder press I sometimes have shoulder pain
    Also how He also did walks while holding a lighter kettlebell upside down to work on stability. help I wanna learn from you thanks man for reading this long comment

    My only tip - If you have grindy rep with split jerk, wait, till you press it over your head in split jerk stance, than start bringing your feet closer 😁 This mistake took lots of "good" reps from me!

    That was excellent. As a very mediocre middle aged man who’s trained (for pleasure) a long time (natural) to have the strength and core strength to repeatedly hoist 180kg in such a effortless controlled way was very impressive.

    Obviously Mitch doesn't lack power, but what's even more impressive is having the flexibility, speed, and balance necessary to jerk 180kg at that bw and with so much strongman training before. Really amazing.

    I love the baby talk. You've got a very mature and healthy mentality concerning your upcoming status as a parent. Kids tend to teach and shape us, and if we as parents, can humble ourselves enough to learn and grow with our kids the rewards and bonds created are beyond words. My wife and I have three ages 5, 3, and 2 with the oldest having special needs. We often meet parents who seem to be struggling and stressed out. We avoid these feelings by managing our expectations and emotions. In doing so, we've created a home life that operates like controlled chaos where the kids feel welcomed, loved, and supported while being able to just be kids.

    Olympic lifter here , overall extremly good for your first time split jerking . The only thing you could work on is bringing your back leg to more of a 90 degree angle and moving your front leg out more . This way the weight is more evenly dispersed on both legs . Other than you don’t have to worry about press out for strongman and your already very strong so not much to improve on

    So losing the bar forward is actually caused by your BACK foot going too far back, as this will pull your hips too far behind the bar…you want your front foot and your back foot to go EQUAL distance forwards and backwards so that your torso drops straight down and stays vertical…you also need to incorporate more of a bend in your back leg as it will help with keeping your torso vertical instead of leaning forward, and lastly, you want your toes both pointed slightly inwards as this creates lateral stability compared to your toes pointing outwards…and then, to recover from the split position, you want a “small” step with your front foot followed by a bigger step with your back foot…although I was never spectacular at Olympic weightlifting, I have competed and I also was NCCP certified, my name is Rob brownrigg and I will be at the seminar you are hosting at fortis fitness and it would be my honour to show you a few footwork drills and such that might help you!

  • @mmmzzzzzzz
    @mmmzzzzzzz Рік тому

    Impressive how natural he is at this. You can see with light weights he is recovering by stepping forward with the back foot, which isn't really the "correct" thing to do. But as weights get heavier, he just naturally starts doing the right thing and steps back with the front foot. Even among high level strength athletes it is not that common to have people so in tune with movement that they just do the right thing without much (or any) instruction.
