  • Barry decides it's time to get back out onto the North Sea, so he starts to move the first five fleets of creels down to the harbour in preparation for a break in the weather to get them out to sea. Will the weather gods smile on the Lynsey B for once?
    To celebrate the fact that Barry and the Lynsey B are back out on the water we've decided to give our fans two videos for the price of one. We were originally going to do two vlogs (as you will see when Barry refers to 'last weeks vlog') but we decided to go with one long 40 minute video.
    We hope you enjoy this extra long episode of One Man And His Boat.
    Don't forget that you can get more information on One Man And His Boat on the official website at www.omahb.com where you can also buy your official merchandise.

    I love watching the creels go over in order, with the weights, and the flags. There's something very satisfying about it. And of course all that line just moves out without ever getting tangled. Now I want to go back and re-watch your vid on ropes and how to keep them free of twists. Interesting that the creels have to soak for 2 weeks before you can use them so that they'll sink. I love that you text Lindsey when you go out & head back - my husband & I do that too, and we're just on land - lol. Safety first. The new tech that Jeff got looks fab, and the picture is clear and steady. We sure wish you a great season!

Looking forward to seeing you pulling in the creels, hopefully with loads of those beautiful Scottish Lobsters & Crabs. Plus seeing you Mackerel bashing again for your bait😉 Good luck buddy !!!!😀😊🛥⚓🚤

    Well done Barry, a good days work. Why do the kreels have to be soaked for so long.? Do they catch many fish from the shore in Dunbar? • @onemanandhisboat

      Hi Dave.
      I hope you are well.😁👌
      They need at least 2 weeks to fish correctly. It's all do do how they settle on the bottom.
      And with wooden gear, it can take that long.🙈😂😂😂
      But once they are soaked, that's it. It's game on after that.
      Yes, we can sometimes get fish in the creels from November on. It's usually cod. We can get bream in the summer months, and the odd conger eel, sadly not as frequent these days.😞
      We look forward to bringing you more throughout 2024😍😁👌 we're so excited to get started 😂😂😂😁👌

    Hope all goes well with the season.

    • @onemanandhisboat
      @onemanandhisboat  Місяць тому

      Hi Iain.
      Thank you for your comment and support. We really appreciate your well wishes. 😍😁👌
      When the weather's good, the boats have to go. Every day, they can.
      So in the summer months it can be 7 days a week. In the winter it's usually a day here a day there, that's why we have to work as hard and as long as we can in the summer, so the bank account last the winter.
      We do catch velvet crabs, too. However, our buyer picks and chooses his days for landing them.
      With being a small boat, even the start of the prawn grounds are at our very limit, because if that weather picks up, it's a very long steam home ( been caught out once or twice🙈😬😂😂😂)
      I hope that answers your questions.
      Have a great week.
      All the best.😁👌

    It looks like a complicated rope tying procedure to get it all ready.
    The pot fishermen near me at Stonehaven don't seem to mark their stuff very well. Not as good as your flags anyhow. They have lots of small buoys only all around the harbour area, barely visible in most conditions. A hazard to other vessels.
    Is there any law on how pots are to be marked in Scottish waters ?

    • @onemanandhisboat
      @onemanandhisboat  Місяць тому +1

      It's easy when you know how Jimmy.
      The only laws for bouy ends, that they must be marked with the vessels name and number, unfortunately size doesn't come into it, which is madness, because like you said it's a navigation nightmare.
      Flags have a wee bit more rules.
      They must be a minimum of 1 meter above the water and clearly visible, also with the boats name or number on them.
      The biggest problem is that the Scottish government doesn't funding to police any of their laws, even though it's the tax payers money they haven't really got a force to anything with it.🤷‍♂️🙈😲😲😲
      Not that the inshore fishery is a big problem..in a year or two their will be nothing left, I can assure you....sad really, another great British industry destroyed by our government 😞

      well you might think of if you have things like farmers markets where are they selling their produce and stuff to have a little place to sell your lobsters and crabs and fresh fish and that's another alternative. I know that you're in California a lot of the commercial fishermen now are telling people hey you know I'm coming in on this day with fresh fish meet me at the dock and I'll do transactions at the dock that's your other thing you can do cuz I think fishermen really should be able to make more money@@onemanandhisboat

      Unfortunately not..we used to pre soak the creels in the harbour, but due to a major disaster, the harbour trust stopped us from doing this, and quite rightly too, as it was a serious issue on health and safety as well as a navigation hazard 😁👌

    • @CrimeVid

      @@onemanandhisboat To be honest, I'd thought of just standing them on a couple of tarpaulins to soak up the rain. You get enough of it ! maybe making a puddle with some cheap 4x2" under the edges of the tarp.

    • @onemanandhisboat
      @onemanandhisboat  Місяць тому

      @CrimeVid it's a nice thought, but unfortunately, I'd need a tarp for 120 pots, bud, plus fresh water isn't good for the wood🙈 it rots it out very quickly, plus the density of sea water is very different to fresh water, and the pots need soaked in the sea.😁👌
      But it's a really good call on trying to find a solution to the soaking dilemma. 😉👍
