Every time I hear Ryan talk it becomes more and more clear that Danaher is doing some Get Out type voodoo and slowly uploading himself into Ryan's brain
Create Initial Stickyness with opponent Don't let em get past the legs Don't let em control your head Always frame with your hands to create maximum space In North South Position don't let his shoulders be inside your knees If he doesn't control my head and shoulders he can never pass my guard
This is pretty damn close to the philosophy which I found really helped my BJJ game. The idea of being sticky in one direction, but slippery in another direction. You stick to people and make it very hard for them to pass your guard, but you give them a certain direction in which they can move. Once they move that direction, you transition to a more offensive position because you are ready for them to pass and you use that to your advantage.

The way Gordon or Danaher talk about the theory is priceless. Narrowing all the escapes and variations that are possible down to a simple concept that anyone can understand shows a level of excellence beyond great into truly mastering your craft. I'm grateful for getting to watch, and listen to the strategy implemented by the greatest Jiu Jitsu practitioner and coach of this generation. Thank you!
Teaching philosophy is always better than teaching individual combos or moves. As a boxing coach I always taught using that method. Too many coaches get caught up in repetition. I'm not saying it's not important as well. But it is so valuable to teach someone why something works. It will help them in application.
Theses aren’t new concepts. Rickson has been teaching this for years. Instead of stickiness he talks about connections, and instead of a move for every scenario and thinking about basic themes, like G. Ryan talked about, Rickson talks about Conceptual Jiu Jitsu. It’s basic connection and concepts. This is why G. Ryan is one of the GOATs

Correction, Gordon isn't the best at jiujitsu, he may be the best at submission grappling, but he hasn't put his abilities to test in jiujitsu as a whole, which involves the gi, so he can't really claim that title.
@@caiofernando ok but i consider, no-gi submission the ultimate form of BJJ. there is no right or wrong. It's just a matter of opinion. Why do I think that way? @@perrypelican9476 Whether we like it or not, jiujitsu is a martial art involving gi training and techniques. I don't see a problem with being a no-gi specialist, but you can't claim to be the jiujitsu GOAT if you're not accomplished in the most traditional aspect of that martial art/sport, which is wearing the gi. If you don't want to test yourself in all aspects of the sport/martial art, you can only claim the GOAT title in what you have proven yourself. That's my opinion and I think it's pretty reasonable. As to no-gi being closer to real-life scenarios, I mostly agree, especially if you live in Brazil, but in the northern hemisphere, people wear some version of a jacket for at least half of the year.
