    Create Initial Stickyness with opponent
Don't let em get past the legs
Don't let em control your head
Always frame with your hands to create maximum space
In North South Position don't let his shoulders be inside your knees
If he doesn't control my head and shoulders he can never pass my guard

  • @TheCommonS3Nse
    @TheCommonS3Nse 3 роки тому +280

This is pretty damn close to the philosophy which I found really helped my BJJ game. The idea of being sticky in one direction, but slippery in another direction. You stick to people and make it very hard for them to pass your guard, but you give them a certain direction in which they can move. Once they move that direction, you transition to a more offensive position because you are ready for them to pass and you use that to your advantage.

Teaching philosophy is always better than teaching individual combos or moves. As a boxing coach I always taught using that method. Too many coaches get caught up in repetition. I'm not saying it's not important as well. But it is so valuable to teach someone why something works. It will help them in application.

Theses aren’t new concepts. Rickson has been teaching this for years. Instead of stickiness he talks about connections, and instead of a move for every scenario and thinking about basic themes, like G. Ryan talked about, Rickson talks about Conceptual Jiu Jitsu. It’s basic connection and concepts. This is why G. Ryan is one of the GOATs

stay sticky! dont let him pass my hips.
if he passes dont let him control the head
if he gets passed my body to NS maintain my elbows in knees in and reguard if i can

Watching these excellent videos, we don't realize how great Bernardo was, as in a multi-time ADCC champion. He absorbs all of these techniques. If there is or will be an old timer competition, Bernardo will destroy everyone with all the stuff he learns from the best, like Gordon. Listen to Gordon if you want an edge. He submits everyone he rolls with. I do not do bjj but I watch him because it's easy to see and understand his brilliance. Gordon Ryan is the best bjj fighter. I say fighter because when it comes to submitting in no time limit, no one can beat him. He may lose the odd points match but I don't consider that fighting. There are quite a few guys who know how to win in point systems but to me that's not a fight. Fighting to me means going into battle to win, not to build as many points as possible. You can't tell a guy who attacks you that you beat him on points when the guy would have put you to sleep for sure if he had another minute. I don't like points matches. I don't like that you can win by building a 3 point lead and then stalling in turtle. But again, I am just a fan. I wonder what levels above white belts think about what I just said. Please tell me to straighten me out. I like to be put in my place. I don't get insulted with cool feedback that makes sense.

Correction, Gordon isn't the best at jiujitsu, he may be the best at submission grappling, but he hasn't put his abilities to test in jiujitsu as a whole, which involves the gi, so he can't really claim that title.

@@caiofernando ok but i consider, no-gi submission the ultimate form of BJJ. there is no right or wrong. It's just a matter of opinion. Why do I think that way? Because the gi is not a real fighting thing. I want to be an effective grappler, not a grappler that requires a uniform with a belt against another grappler wearing the same uniform. I don't know how good gordon is wearing a gi. Would you prefer to be the best wearing a uniform or not? I get your point for sure.

@@perrypelican9476 Whether we like it or not, jiujitsu is a martial art involving gi training and techniques. I don't see a problem with being a no-gi specialist, but you can't claim to be the jiujitsu GOAT if you're not accomplished in the most traditional aspect of that martial art/sport, which is wearing the gi. If you don't want to test yourself in all aspects of the sport/martial art, you can only claim the GOAT title in what you have proven yourself. That's my opinion and I think it's pretty reasonable.
As to no-gi being closer to real-life scenarios, I mostly agree, especially if you live in Brazil, but in the northern hemisphere, people wear some version of a jacket for at least half of the year. You definitely can submit someone or control them using their jackets.
Also, if what you're looking for is real-life fighting skills, grappling is not what you should be training, but probably MMA. Arguably even boxing is more useful in real-life fighting scenarios than grappling.

@@caiofernando ok, it's impossible to argue that, so let's say we consider gordon the BJJ no-gi GOAT. And we need categories for everything like different rule sets.
