Someone: Does something
Bernardo: That's unbelievable
Love Bernardos enthusiasm.
That's amazin
That's awsom
Wow that’s incwedbl
I love it
That's Gordon Ryan lol. I'd be saying, "that's unbelievable " too haha
Love me some Bernardo Faria man. This dude is everything everyone else should aim to be. He truly uplifts everyone around him.
And he's a f'ing BEAST
So true!! What a cool guy. I got my black belt back in 2009 from Werdum and realized there were black belts that have been black belts for as long as I’ve been training 😅. Now, I’m that black belt… the one that’s been a black belt for more than 10yrs 🙏🏽
It really is a treat to have two of the best bjj players ever showing us the cheat codes.
Me too man i have so much respect. He seems like amazing family man and great helping person. His videos have helped me so much, bringing all the experts for all the different aspects of bjj and having them explain in their way. He is amazing at asking questions which helps understanding tachnique in depth so much. I recommend his videos to all my friends who recently started and they also found it very helpful. Thank you Bernardo! We owe him so much, i wish him all the best he deserves it
Man is always happy
The best part of these series is Bernardo is a world class Jiu Jitsu expert.
And still learning brand new things from every guest
yeah i like that about him. you can learn something from anyone. even if it's what not to do
Or at least acting like he's learning and doesn't already know it :) Seriously though, Bernardo is great - and 100 agree with comments re: his enthusiasm & positivity. This channel is one of my favs :)
This video is absolute gold, so concise and clear. I've been struggling with escaping north south against good opponents, can't believe I never thought to just reset to side mount 🤯
100%. Can’t escape a pin? Move to one you can.
I think escaping from side control is harder than from mount, so I let people go into mount just because I think the escape is easier
@@LOLLYPOPPE yeah 100%, most people suck at mount and you can just kip out into slx
Did it help?
a tea bagging is never too much fun
Having Bernardo's enthusiastic questions, (the same we'd all probably be asking), makes Gordon actually break down something he probably figures we all would have just understood because it's so second nature to him.
This isn't mentioned enough. Some guys who are better practitioners than teachers need some prompting to explain their methods. Bernardo most likely understands exactly what's happening but still enthusiastically asks the questions he knows less experienced people will have.
@@HolyMith That's exactly what makes this video so good to watch. Also, congrats on your ADCC victory, Gordon!
And I'll add to your point, Bernardo mixes up his guests for max effectiveness. You hear from Gordon Ryan, and also John Danaher who taught this stuff to Gordon Ryan and molded his game.
@@ewhulbert Oh, i know. I've got BOTh of their instructional series. Legends.
Wow his intonation and vocabulary is very reminiscent of John Danaher. True student and now grappling god!
Pay attention! The best no gi grappler in the world is teaching. He's extraordinary. Constantly improving leaving everyone else behind. Also a really great guy. Seminar in Houston 2 years ago was best information and strategies I've ever seen.
That's right baby...when the GOAT speaks you shut up and listen!
He ain't the best though. He is just the Largest and most outspoken. JT torres is set to become a 3x ADCC champion at 77kg the hardest division....... yet no one talks about his amazing skills....he can't exactly win absolutes cause he was Born smaller than Gordon but...sure i guess gordons da best no gi guy v shallow divisions...
He is good but calm down
@@REXAZOR jt has competed in how many adccs? 2013, 2015, 2017, and 2019.. that means he's had 8 tries to get gold medals... and he has 2... I've competed in 2 adccs with 4 tries to get gold medals and I have 3.. does jt even have a sub win in adcc? Lmao I really don't know... I used to be In jt weight class... so was andre..Andre... we worked hard to put on size and won the absolute. You sound like an idiot

He makes it look so easy all the little subtleties that add up.
The way he steps on his own foot once he has the one leg in I need to remember that
Wow! Guess I was on the right track when I applied what I learned in boxing many years ago to my Jiu Jitsu game. I first learned how to slip and counter with rock and roll slip, bob and weave, and footwork. So, everytime I got caught with something while grappling, I researched and found an escape or multiple escapes. Usually there was a great counter attack with those escapes as well. Thanks Bernardo and Gordon.
Gordon is All about efficiency
Making videos with John is really helping you a lot
This is such good stuff. Thank you both 🙌
Thanks for the great content! Gordon you are the man
Love the videos. Thank you for sharing ❤
Thank u fellas great video👍
I can’t wait to see this instructional.
That gable grip frame when replaces guard is awesome. I will definitely be working on that.
Thank you Bernardo! Free content with unlimited value! ✨️
always amazing contents,thank you!
when you pay close attention to his matches, you can see that Gordon uses as little muscle strength as possible.
he has an extremely well understanding of leverage, angle and frame. a real bjjg (g=genius) !
This is true. No one in the game today has his amount of knowledge. When you add “strong as hell” to “has the most knowledge”, you get “wins matches with ease”
its really too bad that he gets baited online so easily
@@timgoodliffe Wym?
It seems like he does use muscle to lift frames onto his body from side control, does he mention anywhere about this escape?
@@timgoodliffe hes trolling for attention weirdo
Amazing!
this is next level knowledge. thank you.
amazing instruction
This is an amazing video with alot of techniques I didn't know. Thanks for the detail and enthusiasm you have.
thank you very much bernardo
You guys are the awesome! Thank you
That's incredible .........
Great content!
Great video!!
Brilliant
That is awesome. Locking the right shoulder and posting foot on foot to frame the hip - brilliant.
Its amazing that we are getting tips from the best in The world!! Thank you so much!!!
I found the explanation to be very clear. Thank you. Also, is that a Poe tattoo on his left arm?
this guy knows the point
Someone: Exists.
Bernardo: Huge honor for me.
Dude, You guys Rock. Ryan is so so damn good. Really wish he trained in Utah. I'd love to learn from him and John.
Nice 🔥
This Guy is a Legend
Good stuff
Learned these same escapes from Roy Harris years ago, back in the early 90s. He emphasized putting the forearm on the throat as a lever from which to push from to escape. Good stuff.
Then why aren't you and all those students the most famous grapplers today?
@@aplus1080 I gave it up years ago, bruh. However, some of my former students have competed here and there but the BJJ rules just aren't receptive to the things we do as Catch Wrestlers. They don't allow the point of the elbow in the eye sockets or middle of the back for example. Why even bother.
Lolwut
Gordon ryan know what is the key for jiujitsu 👍
I never subscribe to anyone unless I know them, I love your content and attitude, had to subscribe thank you Bernardo!
He is great 👍
You can hear how much of Danaher’s teaching style has been embedded in Ryan: “mmmkayy” 😂
Now I can say Gordon Ryan saved my life 🤙🏼
trying to escape side control is the bane of my existence
I"m right there with you brother. Just committed yesterday to working on it for a month and see how much I can improve.
@@beauchapman4155 that's a really good mentality to have. Constantly put yourself in bad positions until it becomes comfortable
Connect knee and elbow man.
Bridge and shrimp. Space is made on the way down. Get that elbow into the hip and connect knee and elbow
This was something I used to struggle with as well, however my solution for it was a bit unconventional....I have very good mount and back defense. So what I would do most of the time is "encourage" my opponent to go to mount - so basically not resist too much in side control. Once they get to mount I can easily (not always) sweep them. Another approach to getting out of side control is to do your best to roll into a turtle (if you have good turtle defense). Hope this helps :)
My personal hell is high mount. But I feel you there.
Absolutely love your content, just wish all of it was as loud as your outro video lol I turn the volume all the way up and then the outro part comes and I blow my ear drums out lmaoo 👍
0:01-1:45 Gordon Ryan's (chicken) "choking" arm weighs him into leaning to the left 😄
Genius
niccccccccccccccccce ^^
THANK YOU GUY´S

I've heard so many of my former Martial arts teachers say that there's no such thing as defense or defense doesn't work... Yet the longer I train, the more I understand how phenomenally important it is like the example Ryan mentioned. Besides his spectacular results, Floyd Mayweather is one of the best boxers and his defense is impeccable, and for myself I've dramatically improved my own results in striking by coming up with some sound defensive principles to add to my footwork and head movement to the point where it feels easy sparring people now. It all connects.
Tnk you sirs
Even Gordon Ryan's mannerisms are just like John's when he speaks
Bernardo: an example of very nice person.
Gordon: the absolute GOAT. It doesnt make any sense to even discuss it 😂
Wow, I’ve gotta try that move at 6:47 - hadn’t seen that before and I always struggle getting out of side control
This Gordon guy should try doing some competitions
Am her with Gornrain xD Amazing Vid! Will try it at the next open mat
5:40 Bernardo is my dog waiting for me to drop some food while making dinner lol
Here we meet again bjj bros
Gordon starts to sound like Danaher lol. Great video guys
Gordon, will you also release a submission escape dvd?
“So I open my mouth and breathe in air”
“Wow that’s incredible “
When is this instructional coming out?
nice
Gordon you fooking wizard
Is instructions available yet in bjj fanatics? Link in the description takes me to how to attack not escpe
I want that red rash guard.
I am going to have to watch this a million times. I just started grappling and if I am pinned I have no idea what to do haha
I wanna see him do that with the 300 lb brown belt I rolled with this evening
Imagine Joe Rogan’s intro when GR would start doing MMA
What instructional is this a part of?
When is this course drop ?
7:26 great detail
So legit

When is he coming out with his slap instructional
Gordon King Ryan is such a legend!

Drinking game! Take a shot every time Gordon says the word, "situation." 😭😭😭
Who’s picture is that on Gordon’s rash guard?
That's his father, Gordon Sr. aka Big Gord. R.I.P. sir!!!
@@nbt1420 Cool, thanks man. I noticed the exclamation marks at the end of your comment. Did I come off disrespectful?
@@chadwilliams5756 No, not at all. The Exclamation is for Big Gord (enthusiasm and respect on my part) nothing malicious. Thanks sir.

id love to see bernardo compete again just to see how his game has evolved from having basicaly non stop privates from the top guys.

Im really good at regaining my guard and maintaining space.. my problem is that is all I can do. My sweeps are non existent and rarely do I get submissions from these positons.
“That’s amazing”
I feel like a just discovered fire.
The knee near the hip to slip in when ever sensing motion is Amazing
Thanks for sharin
Thank you! Getting crushed all the time...I'll try this tonight!
Did it work??
@@TheDomLouis I know the technique is solid-or course...I was able to try a couple of them WITH GI. It started to work but still got crushed. Not the techniques fault, it will just take more practice. Lucky to get the lesson - I'll make all of it work in time!!
@@bill-mckenna I've been going 8 months now and finally subbed a blue belt 2 weeks ago and he didn't sub me during our roll. I've found that focusing on escapes for a month solid or more helped. At the beginning I was getting crushed. But as the weeks went by, less and less white and blue belts got past my guard or subbed me. Then 3 weeks ago I didn't get subbed by any white or blues and I subbed some whites. Then 2 weeks ago I finally subbed my 1st blue belt, who weighs 135kg and I weigh 65kg. I also subbed more white belts that week.
So I actually used the advice the Gordon/John gives in this video. Get better at escapes and guard retention 1st. Once you're hard to pin and sub, the openings present themselves and you get the subs. It's not easy and can be demoralising at 1st. But trust in the process and you'll get the results.
I'm the oldest guy in our gym. I'm 54. So if I can do it, anyone can!!
@@TheDomLouis sounds like he took it easy on you lmfao
@@cristianlambert645 for sure

I get when you have your knee at the hip gives an opportunity to enter if they try to go to mount or knee on belly, but my opponent can usually sense that and instead tries attacking my arms or switching his hips to a judo hold

What is the solution when they switch to kazuri katame?
