I agree with the comments about the diesel drivetrain, I think that the elephant in the room is the DPF, it's not suited to urban use. Emission restrictions have killed the diesel. In my humble opinion hybrid vehicles are the future.
By end of 2024 both Tucson and Sportage will not offer diesel in Australia; essentially replaced by a hybrid powertrain. Sportage hybrid will only be FWD; Tucson will have choice between AWD and FWD.
We've got a diesel GT-Line on order. Don't think I'll be changing to the hybrid after watching this review. Not enough difference in fuel economy and the diesel has fabulous torque and comes in AWD.
maybe not so much as expected. El motor benefits in a petrol engine is at low revs in the city at stop start traffic where petrol engine consumption jumps considerably (even with built in stop/start function) . On the other hand diesel has already higher torque on low revs so el. motor has not much to contribute to the consumption level on diesel platform. On higher revs el motor doesn't do much to either platform for the consumption. Maybe I am wrong any engineer can correct me, this is just my opinion.
The DPF/GPF for diesel and petrol engines, respectively, don't work well with hybrid powertrains since hybrid engines usually have a lower exhaust temperature. Conventional engines typically have enough temperature for the DPF or GPF to self-clean because they "waste" enough energy to heat up the DPF or GPF. The hybrid powertrain is to kill this type of energy waste to save fuel, meaning the "waste heat" may not be enough for the DPF or GPF to work properly. This problem has already caused disputes and recalls in China with Toyota Hybrid cars.
@@jerrymyahzcat Yes, but still very few. Hybrid buses are more often seen, but it is said that their fuel efficiency is not as optimised as people expected from the lab test. Heavy vehicles must use a diesel or natural gas engine, and they usually have a higher exhaust temperature, making the diesel hybrid a possible solution. But small cars/SUVs and utes are just different.

The RAV4 (and RAV4 hybrid) is rubbish anyway so I don’t know why anyone would wait for it. The new X-Trail isn’t a hybrid. It’s ePower. The engine can’t power the wheels - it’s only used to generate electricity - the car is fully EV powered (but not a full BEV) but the engine charges the batteries. To be a hybrid there needs to be both ICE and EV driving the wheels. Never buy any Kia below GT-Line spec. Hyundai claims the fuel economy figures??? Surely you mean Kia? And why does the engine icon look like a jack-o-lantern or a demon? The 80-120 test needs to be done from cruising at 80 not on the run up to 100. It’s supposed to represent pulling out at 80 to pass.
RAV-4 hybrid cannot be rubbish, it is the top seller in this sector. Your personal opinion does not make it fact! RAV-4 also has the least depreciation, it's the smart buy; one of a few reasons why it always has a waiting list.
The RAV4 won car of the year for 2 years in a row. It's also the top selling car in this segment by far and one of the top selling cars globally for the last few years. So clearly you are wrong.
@@Richard-sl8we also top selling doesn’t make it good. Lots of people buy rubbish. The Corolla was top selling for 17years in New Zealand. It was never very good. Depreciation or lack doesn’t mean it’s any good. Just means it holds its value. Probably because people want it for whatever reason.

Any powertrain that doesn’t force me to plug into an f-ing power point for hours a day will do. 🙄
You must hate money.
I wouId rather a Haval H6 Ultra Hybrid over this.

@@satinder4367 the price difference and power in the Haval
@@THEAC83 Fair enough thats a perspective i didn't think of, me personally id go with the sportage but everyone has there own needs and demands so its gonna be different for everyone.

keep your CCP-mobile.
Battery at usd 60000 after 5 years. Good luck
@@Brian-jb2gv no clearly people are dumb and buy lame vehicles. There is nothing in your answer to indicate that it’s actually any good. Its bland. The driveline is crap. It’s rubbish off-road. The list goes on.
Just because it’s car of the year only indicates that people (not usually consumers) voted it that way.
Very often the cheapest of a category is the best seller even though it’s junk.
Kia killed is accident. Sorry it is kia
