My Sportage is the shorter European model, because I live in Germany. I have 8,700 miles (14,000 km) and have had it for 18 months. So far, no problems at all. Mine is the Plug-in Hybrid which is delightful for city driving. The smooth acceleration and and quiet running stand in contrast to the hectic driving around me and has a calming effect on me. I get 43 miles of electric range so it’s great for city driving. Both the ride comfort and handling in the curves is better than the BMW X1 and X3, which were my previous cars. I wish the steering had a bit more feel, but that’s a very minor point. Driving in Hybrid mode (95% of the time gasoline engine) my mileage varies wildly from 27 mpg on the Autobahn to 59 mpg driving carefully on secondary roads.

Got ours about 1 month ago. SX prestige hybrid. 600 miles and we love it. We ordered it and waited 355 days. We have 6 years/100k warranty on everything and 10y/200k power train. We had a Cadillac SRX and the KIA is a better vehicle for a lot less money. We love it so far.

I have a SX-Prestige. I have differing views on a few things. I like the backup alarm because it helps move people away in the grocery store parking lot. This is my first automatic car and I personally find the shifter intuitive. Right is forward. Left is reverse. No need to look. Doesn’t waste space with a bulky shifter. Use the paddles to shift up or down if you want to chose a gear and hold the up shift paddle to go back to drive. I still don’t like automatics but this one is tolerable in operation. Related to this, however, is that sometimes there is a major delay if you are going 1-2 mph and hit the gas. Things have disconnected for regen and the electric drive motor is not moving things forward so you can catch it off guard. No California stops with this one. It hates that. I hate California stops so it’s typically fine for me.
I agree on the gloss black - dangerous in the sun. Bought a grey overlay and it looks so much better and doesn’t reflect the sun in my eyes.
I like that I can really work the regen system to optimize my general braking like I could with a manual transmission.
I take the car on trails, so I killed the mileage with installing all terrain tires but I still get mid-30’s for mileage.
I am surprised how fast this car makes heat in the winter. Maybe it has resistive heating to supplement the coolant and heater core? I love the heated steering wheel and heated windshield (but not the potential cost to replace).
I like the sunrises, sunsets, etc. on the digital dash. The cameras that come up on the dash when turning is a wonderful supplement the blind spot warning. The 360 camera is great too.
There is good room inside and I was able to fit full size spare under the rear cargo floor.
The all-speed cruise control is nice in traffic jams. The driving assist was not something I wanted but I have grown to really like and reduces fatigue during long trips.
I think the suspension is good on slow rough roads but is not super refined on sharp hits. It’s a little sloppy but comfortable.
My rear shocks were leaking and replaced under warranty. My horn relay failed and was replaced under warranty. The OEM tires had no grip - I could spin the tires front and back when accelerating out into a high-speed street and that was a safety issue. I’ll sacrifice a little fuel economy for grip any day.
I am still impressed how far I’ve made it on forest service roads without any issues. The low speed torque of the electric motor and turbo makes slow terrain crawling easy, even without low gearing. The clearance is more than enough for what this car should ever do. I got the Kia skid plate for the front to act as a feeler gauge since it is the lowest point but have not hit anything with it so I think my expectations of capability are exceeded by its actual capability. Just remember, this is not a Land Cruiser. It may just keep up with a Subaru which is more than I need.
I would like better shocks and springs and the variable valve duration sometimes makes the engine sound really bad around 2700-2800 rpm at light throttle so they need a little work in that mapping. Makes me worry about longevity - it’s the first engine to employ that tech in the world. They also updated the software that runs the engine 100-200 rpm higher in generation and parallel mode that increased NVH but supposedly reduced issues with oil dilution over time due to the hybrid cycles and temperatures.
If you live in the mountains, the turbo really helps over the competition.
Finally - I actually use the remote driving from the key fob. Park too close to the garage door? - just move it forward. Sticking out further than you want in the parking garage - walk it forward. Slightly over into the yellow on your parallel park job… no problem. The best w as when somebody gave me a foot between their car and me. I was able to back it out and get in. Wouldn’t upgrade just for that but I like it.
Overall, mine has been great. 9/10.

Nice review! Do all of these hybrids have problems with oil dilution? I'm assuming that's because of short trips and not warming up the engine properly?

I have had my 2024 Sportage Hybrid SX Prestige for 7 months now and have a little over 13K miles. My driving environment is a little different than yours, I live in the Phoenix area.
BLUF: I am very happy with my car, no complaints.
I am starting into my first winter (yes, we have winter in Phoenix, it is down to 75 the week) and my MPG has improved a lot. I am consistently getting 40+. When the temp is in the 90-110 the MPG is about 36. I think it is the AC sucking the MPG down. Given its weight, the AWD, and the higher profile, it exceeded my expectations. I replace my 2013 Fusion Hybrid with the Sportage and while I loved my Fusion, I like my Sportage just as much.
The only problem I have had was the front camera failed as soon as it started to get hot here in Phoenix. KIA replaced it no problem and it has worked fine ever since.
PS: Mine has never beeped in reverse.

The life average mpg is 38.7 but when I'm driving by my self on the trip to my kids house (375 miles door to door) I get as much as 44 mpg , that's with cruse control at 64 mph at 1600 rpm, driving around town it usually around hi 40s but it goes down when I idle while my wife goes to the grocery store, but still great fuel mileage , I do spend quite of bit of time at idle, South Florida heat requires a lot of A/C .

You can use the battery in hybrid to run A/C, and the engine will start automatically when the battery runs out. I think this will be good to the engine.(Do not let the engine idle all the time)

I have the 2023 LX trim and mostly adore this car. The only problem (which unfortunately is a huge deal for me) is that the audio system is god-awful. This apparently is an issue that afflicts MANY models, years and trims across Kia and Hyundai. You have to turn the volume to 60% before it really becomes listenable on the road, and if you want to headbang expect 90%+. But that's just volume. The clarity and presence is just bad. Terrible bass. After some research, Kia seems to have acknowledged that it's an issue, and released an update in November of last year that reportedly makes the sound system far better. Unfortunately, it's wrapped up in a navigation update so it DOESN'T APPLY to those of us with standard trims. I find this truly unacceptable for a car that costs ~30k+, and there doesn't appear to be a fix in sight. I then added some aftermarket speakers in hopes of remedying the issue, but the software is so bad that the speakers made little difference. I'm blown away that a fix hasn't been released for the Kia models that don't have navigation capability.

So i was driving from phoenix to payson and most of the road are climbing up ,not so steep though (anyone living in payson would know). I didn't pay attention to the battery while i was driving cause under my assumption ,the computers of my car would handle when it need to charge the battery or not. so i was driving as normal but as it reach to a high RPM cause it was climbing up ,my battery is empty and the engine is the only one that gives power to the car and as far as i know the gasoline engine with the regular hybrid adds up to a 261hp but what happen was as the car was climbing with a high rpm ,it was slowing down from 60mph to 40mph slowly. i tried flooring the gas pedal, tried to change to sport mode, and manually adjusting the gears from the pedal shift but no power comes from the engine , i was kinda afraid at that time that the car can't climb. Nothing bad happen ,the car finally charge its hybrid power from the generative braking but i was just wondering what actually happen with the engine power. What can i do to prevent if something like this to happen. there are no indicators light so everything is good
i just bought this car and drove this around 2k miles

Mine just turned 2yo and 13,100 miles.
On March this year I took it to the dealership as a result of a transmission issue. They found out that a harness (I am no mechanic I am paraphrasing to the best of my ability) that connects to the transmission was corroded because of water damage or at least that is what they think it happens. I never wash my vehicle engine so to me it was a complete surprise. Under warranty they exchanged the harness thing and even put a new transmission. I am deeply concerned that this will continue to happen down the road since it may be a manufacturer’s error and I am afraid that after warranty time expires it will come out of my pocket. I am deeply considering going to the dealership and getting a new vehicle.
    Any recommendations will be appreciated.

Good review. I've had my Canadian hybrid EX since September of 2022. Haven't put a ton of km on it since I've been working from home, only 18000 so far. Still really enjoy driving it - smooth, quiet, good ride, good tech, comfortable, my bicycle will fit in the back without having to take a wheel off. Average fuel economy since new is at 6.3 l/100km (37 MPG). Long term reliability remains a question that only time can answer. Heated steering wheels rule, too. And although it's a little weird to look through some times, the heated windshield works great in the winter. No problems so far other than some creaks from the infotainment display pod with temperature changes. Well and a windshield that had to be replaced due to a rock hit, pretty expensive (insurance) and they had some trouble recalibrating the camera requiring a couple trips.

ive had mine for about 48 k miles- at 25k it completely shut off and had to be towed- the dealer had no idea what was wrong- two months later im told
the water pumps were leaking- replaced but that didn't fix it- I was called to pick it up two months later and told "the wiring harness attached to the h20 pump is where the problem was
-well send you details " that never happened- mechanic admitted these were pushed thru assembly too quickly and not assembled correctly-
I plan to trade this soon as I don't trust it- what else "wasn't assembled correctly"? plan to buy a used Lexus SUV that is reliable and will last-
also the tach is overkill! WAY too much crammed into it- the alarms the random emergency braking - the intermittent wipers are horrible! no rhyme or reason as to how they are triggered- lastly the "toggle" on the dash is terrible as well- just not practical at all sorry but a reality check needs to come out as this vehicle is not "all that" at least to my experience-
there are other problems as well- do tons of research before buying this friends! it does drive nice on the highway and sport mode is pretty quick- good luck!

So all Kia/Hyundai hybrids are made in Korea. If you compare apples to apples the Korean manufacturing quality will be significantly better.
As for the issues you’ve been having this is a first model year, they all have a ton of issues that includes Lexus and Toyota.

I just bought upper-mid trim here in EU, so your experience might be different, but I find it easier to have the "energy flow" displayed on the dashboard to get to know how the energy is distributed in different situations.
I have to argue about KIA not putting blind spot monitoring as a standard in all trims - seems like this is an unfortunate trend that other manufacturers are also following :/ So KIA is no outlier here, I would guess it makes the more "safety-concerned" people steered toward shelling out more money for the top trim level. TBH I drove Kia Niro HEV with that option for 3 years (it was a mid-to-high trim level) and I though I would miss it more on the Sportage, but it doesn't seem much of a problem at all. You could add it as an accessory, but ofc the visual presentation is sub par :/
I do hate VW for wanting additional money for knee airbags and such - they are the real scumbags IMO
