I think the point is not 480 vs 500. More like 480Nm in a XXkg vehicle with material turbo lag vs 500Nm in a Xkg vehicle with good turbo response. I have a suggestion for you Paul... I suggest trying cars that are 5 or 10 years old... and the experiment is comprehensive so that we can see how much power the car's engine has lost... and if it is a four-wheel drive car, what is the car's ability to pass the tests... and let's see to what extent... The quality of the materials used in the car...because all car companies say we are the best but use and the passage of years are the true standard for use

Great vid. Or whether the Alpha just points to the X being really good value for what it is. Keen to know how your spending decision would play out..

Very nice, looks very tundra. I’m also disappointed they didn’t follow the chinese mainstream naming of cars after iPhone products. This should be the gwm cannon pro max ultra se mini plus
It has a Borg Warner torque on demand 2 speed transfer case. EVERY drive mode except eco has 5-50 percent of torque going to the front depending on conditions. When you start the car it is in normal mode which is AWD. Cross country expert mode locks the clutch pack in the transfer case (4h), 4l has a gear reduction and locks the clutch pack in the transfer case.
Just for a bit of a size comparison. A current F1 car is slightly longer & wider than this GWM.. Besides that Looks good value for money, but in reality needs a bit more power/torque.
In mainland China, traffic drives on the right-hand side of the road. Are these cars converted in Australia, or is the Chinese manufacturer providing both versions?
"Visibility out the back is good" - no it isn't. I took one of these for a drive last week and between the pointless sliding back window and the headrest for the rear middle seat, the view is obstructed. As far as performance goes, yeah, I also found the 2.4 diesel very lacking. However, I took the hybrid for a drive and it is a completely different beast - it has way more grunt and is the better vehicle.
Hi Paul Could you make a video about cars’ media systems like what chipsets or what OS they are using ? Are they using same chip as is used in phones and computers or something else? Specifically for Chinese cars I’m eager to know. Thanks
You say more than once that the throttle needs recalibration because of lag off the mark but this assumes the lag is a calibration issue not a hardware issue. It may well be that the turbo needs time to spool in which case, no amount of calibration of the throttle is going to fix that.

I actually only come in to read the comments. I didn’t even listen to Paul’s comment. G, you can really see some interesting people here. Smart ones, open minded ones, of course stubborn and --ones. I’m not sure whether by reading the comments will help me to read my clients’ minds at work.
Would love to see a sedan version. The tank is cool but it's an odd design. This but single cab would be solid
Paul told you it is based on 500, that's the sedan version and yes it is available in Australia now.
looks cool. just needs those tweaks sorted and should be great
It is quite misleading to say that the max speed is 130 KM in Australia when that speed is only in one area in Australia in most other places it is either 100 KM or 110 KM
Honestly, I would buy one ! Simply with 5 years warranty and all these features, why would I pay double the amount for other brands !
Isn't it 7 years?
@@wayneli4070 sorry yes it is thanks
You just say “hey GWM” and ask it to perform tasks for you like, turn on the massage, open passenger window etc
Lmao what a dork, that’s something woman love. A man going to work in a Ute doesn’t care about that junk, just more to break and go wrong.
“Hey GWM can you unlock the door, we just crashed and we can’t get out and the cars on fire, hey GWM hey hey can you hear me” 🤣🤦♂️ how pathetic. You really think this junk is that reliable built from a throw away culture.
Go on peasant I’ll wait for your defence now.
As someone that doesn't know all that much about the specifics of cars and the engineering, what determines that the payload would be lower or higher? Why are the latest GWM models lacking the payload of the others?
I have a suggestion for you Paul... I suggest trying cars that are 5 or 10 years old... and the experiment is comprehensive so that we can see how much power the car's engine has lost... and if it is a four-wheel drive car, what is the car's ability to pass the tests... and let's see to what extent... The quality of the materials used in the car...because all car companies say we are the best but use and the passage of years are the true standard for use
There's a channel for this. It's called Redriven
@@alfstewart22 cool thanks
@@alfstewart22I need to take a look at it...thank you
@ReDriven … how cool would it be for you guys to do a Dyno test like the funny sh!t top gear did when working out how many horses had bolted from old sh!tboxes
@ehhla3 you already know where you stand with a Toyota.
Great vid.
The one question i was hoping might be answered directly is whether you see enough value to jump from spending, say, the mid forty thousands on Cannon X..to potentially in the low sixty thousands for an Alpha. Or whether the Alpha just points to the X being really good value for what it is. Keen to know how your spending decision would play out..
if you don't need the size, facelift cannon already released in China with 2.4 diesel, bigger info screen, similar interior design.hope it comes here with no price increase
@@linny-h7y agree, that would be awesome!
When driving the 2022 modal, one has to manually close the lane departure evetytime you embark on a new trip.
Does this one shut this out indefinitely until a driver requires it again?
Very nice, looks very tundra. I’m also disappointed they didn’t follow the chinese mainstream naming of cars after iPhone products. This should be the gwm cannon pro max ultra se mini plus
Is this full time 4WD or part time? Can you drive 4WD on sealed roads? Getting mixed I go from different reviews
@@jakewarren9465 thanks for your detailed answer!
Just for a bit of a size comparison. A current F1 car is slightly longer & wider than this GWM.. Besides that
Looks good value for money, but in reality needs a bit more power/torque.
My FG cab chassis ute with nudge bar and tow bar was over 6m.
I like this, better looking than the std one
fck Toyota who cares about brand just give us what we really need and cheap price with quality.
What size engine, didn't mention it?
When you put it in 4H and you said the traction control has turned off, how did you expect the traction control to kick in when it’s off.. lol 27:38
In mainland China, traffic drives on the right-hand side of the road. Are these cars converted in Australia, or is the Chinese manufacturer providing both versions?
They manufacture both versions.
more competition - better to consumers
We what the review of the hybrid
What on earth happened to the hood liner at the rear seat review. Thought it was my phone screen but it wasn’t.
We are still trying to figure that out...
Bet in other markets it's available with a sun roof or something like a sunroof.
The hybrid got a panoramic sunroof
given that the new vehicles use digital screens, could you please report on reflection on those screens
Hi Paul, will you at some stage review the new BYD Sealion 6? 😊
When are you doing a test on a 2024 Dmax
Why didn't you do the hybrid? That's the one that really sets the cat amongst the pigeons.
Interior has parts borrowed from tank 500 or vice versa
BMW X5 interior dash, door inserts….etc rubbing and noisy after 5 years…..so
I want one!!
does this have dpf?
Does the 2.4 diesel engine have a timing chain ?
Nice, don't like all the electronic buttons though. More stuff to fuse
I'll wait for a Vanta version with a rollbar/sailplane or a loaded XSR.
And the rear seats recline also
I love it!!
Why does the back window open when open the back door
Hi Paul
Could you make a video about cars’ media systems like what chipsets or what OS they are using ?
Are they using same chip as is used in phones and computers or something else?
Specifically for Chinese cars I’m eager to know.
Thanks
You say more than once that the throttle needs recalibration because of lag off the mark but this assumes the lag is a calibration issue not a hardware issue. It may well be that the turbo needs time to spool in which case, no amount of calibration of the throttle is going to fix that.
Can you review the cannon hybrid?😊
