It’s funny because now cpd acts like they don’t care and are retiring. They hate the mayor we have because she holds them accountable to the highest extent. And Illinois just passed the bill that you can’t search the car because of a “weed smell”. It was getting so bad with officers using that as an excuse, they ended up just passing that bill.

Hahaha that would means the courts, government, the whole system would be on trial and would arrest itself.

I want to fully agree with you, but i still hope that one of these days ill rightfully be accused of a crime but get off because of the cop not showing up. I hear a story of one guy getting a ticket. He looked up his officer on social media, found out the day his wife was due to give birth, and changed his court date to it. Cop didn't show and he got off scott free 😂
So maybe have that as a requested opption and not a default penalty for a no show cop.

You're suggesting that the officer didn't show up because he/she has something to hide? I guess that's possible, but I'm thinking that this is a minor seat-belt citation, and it is not uncommon for law enforcement not to show up for such minor violations when there might be other priorities. Therefore, if you have the time and it's not too inconvenient you should always contest a minor infraction - there's a good likelihood the officer will not show up.

Just another 'tool' police use... subtle intimidation. I was pulled over one time, and three cops tried something similar. I was driving home one night and was pulled over for some supposed violation (making an illegal turn). It was around midnight and I had just left an anonymous meeting. One cop turned into three within a few minutes. After being asked to exit the vehicle in order to perform a roadside sobriety test (which I PASSED) officers started questioning me. At first it was the normal... driver's license, insurance card, registration... blah blah blah... which I handed over. At one point they asked to search my car... which I refused to give consent to.
They then started questioning why I was out at midnight, where I was going... ALL the while slowly entering my 'personal space'. When they didn't wait for any answers and just keep asking over and over... I knew what they were doing and allowed it... in fact I encouraged it.
After all I know my rights (to a point), and I knew these cops were trying to 'fluster me' into giving into their 'request' to search my car.... with the intention of find something illegal to use against me (drugs, booze, weapons... etc.).
Well... me being a young gay man... I HAD to let them know I was enjoying being SO close to so many beautiful well built officers (I sort of lied). I even mentioned (I sort of lied again... kind of) that I had a little fetish... that I dream of an encounter like this.. big strapping men in uniform... with handcuffs AND the feel (I made the motion to touch one of their leather jackets but stopped)... and smell of leather... ohhhhh.
I purposefully relaxed my posture, and thought about all the 'body language' cues I had learned over the years... especially those cues that said I was flirting. I NEVER propositioned any of them... but I did make it clear that I was enjoying their close proximity... and FAR from making me uncomfortable... it was getting me hot.
Well...LOL... at this point I saw the realization pass over one of the officer's face... it was PRICELESS. A quick conversation ensued between the three of them...and VERY quickly these three officers were trying to INCREASE the distance between us... one actually extended his arm in the classic 'stop' motion when I tried to step up closer.
A minute later i was told I was free to go... with no ticket... and no apology... just a clipped 'Drive safe'... and it was over.
I will NEVER forget the look of realization that swept across the cop's face when it happened. It was a two-fold look... first was the realization that i was gay, and enjoying the encounter... and then the second look... was the look of defeat when he realized I had won the 'intimidation game'.
PS- He was the officer who said... Drive safe.

Ohio comes from that era. The judge couldn't believe that the cop couldn't grab the black man and pat him down just in case. Qualified Immunity for police comes from this era because Blacks were suing police for excessive force and winning big cases. The SCOTUS wanted to put a stop to that. Gun control in California because the Black Panthers had rifles on the steps of the Capitol. Most White people supported these laws but now they are affecting everyone.

*Turns to look at the audience* Let me describe what has been bestowed upon us...
COPS didn't show up to a legal court hearing which all citizens are required to attended because failure to do so is obstruction due to obstruction being defined as a person playing an intentional role in prolonging a legal court case or investigation by doing what they're doing. Not only they committed obstruction, but it was also over a case where a man had or believed he had his constitutional rights violated.
That's not to say that it should be taken seriously merely for that reason, but rather what would you be experiencing if a law was treated in a way by society to make you believe it is that way? Seriously, what message does that send the people when it is shown that we can be made unaware of certain aspects of the law, while still being expected to follow said law? That the law can be confusing and yet we should still listen to what we don't understand? Or that we should follow police officers blindly, but within reason. Well, reasonably speaking, the cops had no true reason to treat the man the way he was treated (which honestly seems to be the #1 thing that both happens AND goes over peoples head, just look at the condescending and intimidating behavior displayed in this one, those can go for harassment charges since they have no real place in our world because they get nothing done the way and are about (and I quote) "aggressive pressure OR intimidation"), which was illegally, especially the profanity used out of wrath/rage. Before you go "its normal do that, everyone does" well if that's how you think then why not hang out with the state legal, but federally illegal cannabis users out there, its perceived normal and happens a lot without punishment even tho its against the law federally so why isn't it being applied? Or maybe you like more of the minority scene, well fear not, you can do the absolutely completely illegal cocaine with the small group in the corner since again to some degree within certain pockets of society THAT THINKING IS CONSIDERED NORMAL and should therefore not be punished, aka a world where people can harass you and manifest wrongness upon you, by it being of wrong demeanor, aka what we have all accepted "this action is just no? Correct. We know it is no due to being human and by knowing the law we're serving? Correct. Okay, I'm gonna make it apart of our policy to give police the right to do said thing to people, only in circumstances they can get away with it in, such as when the suspicion is reasonable, and they're also going to be making sure no non-police officer will be doing the such! Correct."
To think our justice system is faulted because people can be following the law, or at least the law best to their knowledge, to have it say follow the law, but not as you know it, and to do it better than what you've come from for seemingly no reason besides what you once thought was following the law until some officer told you otherwise even though you know the law, almost as if HE (dun dun dun) were the uninformed one and now "blah blah blah" *this that and the other thing* you're basically the girl told "no one will believe you" after being raped and they actually believe it too. AKA yes she does think he doesn't know the law in its entirety because she does and he's violating it, if the logic "no, because he's a police officer committing it, then that proves she doesn't know enough" is supposed to take effect, then you have about one third of police officers committing fraud arrests and getting away with it due to gaslighting techniques!
Let's recap! COPS commit obstruction over an act of them infringing on constitutional rights, by not showing up to a "bogus citation" and the such is okay because they're cops and no one was h u r t... *proceeds to look up all instances of non-hurting crimes committed, such as partying too loudly or being detained for wearing a bikini* "you're free to go no"
SHOCKING how the system takes shape.

I think you missed another point about officer safety justifying the search: once they removed him from his car, whatever might have been there was no longer a factor as he couldn't reach it. By taking him out, maybe even closing the door, they assured their safety from anything that could have been there. Thus, the search, while perhaps legal by the letter of the law, exposes their likely intent to find more "dirt" on him and NOT about officer safety. The search reveals the stop to be almost certainly pretextual to try to find more serious crimes. Legal, yes, but not community-endearing.
