If you’d like some more of David Mitchell’s “barely bottled up rage at the minutia of daily life” you should look up David Mitchell’s soapbox on UA-cam. A plethora of 3-ish minute videos of David ranting at a camera about something that annoys him, they’re fantastic.
This +1
"Passion" is the best, followed by "Dear America"
I’d watch Neil reacting to David Mitchell’s Soapbox…. I imagine each one could trigger a similarly amusing rant from Neil!
Thanks. I’ll take a look.
I tend to do a mini rant quite often at work but I don’t see anyone laughing when I do it.
It’s worth pointing out that those are written by John Finnemore, he mostly does radio comedy.
@@xCPTxNEMO True, but as David Mitchell said once when introducing John Finnemore on “The Unbelievable Truth,” “John has written for Peep Show, That Mitchell and Webb Sound, That Mitchell and Webb Look, and David Mitchell’s Soapbox. Never heard of him.” 😂
The Louie Louie here is by The Kingsmen. Lola is by The Kinks
Yes I would like to hear more personal anecdotes, especially if it gives us some insight to life in Canada.
The band is The Kingsmen.
Yay, another one I was in the audience for! The first one I went to see recorded in fact - when they spilled their 'lava lamps' everywhere they had to pause the recording and mop up all the mess
Louie Louie was a song by The Kingsmen. Not written by them, it was written in the 50s by someone else but that was them performing it, originally released in 1963.
Eric Pickles is an MP who is, uh, a larger gentleman. He's one of the go-to references for overweight people in Britain.
I love your stories. I hope lots of other episodes trigger more of them.
I love when Alan embodies animals. One of my favorite clips is from series O episode 11, I think. Brilliant.
The band singing Lola was The Kinks
The band singing Louis Louis was The Kingsmen
"Ahhh the Argos catalogue, the laminated book of dreams made to resist the tears of joy" Bill Bailey 🤣
amok (adv.)
Run amok a verbal phrase first recorded 1670s, from Malay (Austronesian) amuk "attacking furiously." Earlier the word was used as a noun or adjective meaning "a frenzied Malay," originally in the Portuguese form amouco or amuco.
Its cool getting to know you a little better..more stories would be fun 😊
Noted!
IMO the best other shows with David Mitchell are "Was it something I said?" (really a bummer that it was killed so soon) and various Big Fat Quizzes.
You really should react to the Greg Davies Bad Dong video. It’s from the Big Fat Quiz 2015. The guests also include Richard Ayoade, Jo Brand, David Mitchell, Rob Brydon, and Calaudia Winkelman. And don’t forget host Jimmy Carr. It is worth a reaction. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
"Louie Louie" was written and composed by Richard Berry in 1955 and is best known for the Kingsmen's version, which was released in 1963.
Scouse is predominately associated with Liverpool, but goes for most of the Merseyside county in North West England.
I always enjoyed this episode.
I also volunteered at an aquarium, where they had Belugas, and they are really beautiful animals. The aquarium also had some small dolphins, which they used to train to respond to a whistle, so the aquarists could examine them for any injuries or illness (commands like come here, show me your left fin etc). That worked fine for a good while and then one day, the dolphins wouldn't do any of the correct responses. After a lot of head scratching, the aquarists realised that the beluga whales in the adjoining pool were mimicking the whistle sounds and confusing them 😀 Their whistling ability is amazing, they can even produce a focused burst which can stun fish!
You were sort of right - Elephant & Castle was originally the name of a coaching inn, now a pub, but over time came to be used to refer to the whole surrounding area, not just the inn.
I used to be really pedantic about my spelling and grammar but since i turned 40 i no longer really care about either, especially writing comments on a tablet where my fat fingers often touch the wrong letter. Even less so at night when i'm drunk lol.
Btw yes Scouse is Liverpool.
R series restaurants is an excellent episode
Amok is derived from the Malay word mengamok, meaning to make a furious and desperate charge. Captain Cook is credited with making the first outside observations of amok in the Malay tribesmen in 1770 during his around-the-world voyage.
If you want more David Mitchell, 'That Mitchell & Webb Look' might be worth a look -- the 'Old Sherlock Holmes' sketch from the final episode is fantastic.
Great show, maybe not the best sketch to start? That one has context.
Jimmy Carr's laugh always makes my day...
I'd love to see a Taskmaster special with 3 couples such as David Mitchell and Victoria Coran Mitchell. Where the couples work together on the tasks, you would then get double the interaction dynamic both within the couples and between the teams.
Yes! I'd watch that👏
Alex Horne has said that he doesn't really want to have a couple on the show with other regular guests because he thinks the audience would be too focused on the relationship between the couple which would draw attention away from the other competitors. But, having three couples would solve that problem in addition to solving the disparity between team numbers in group tasks.
Yeh bang on as always mate,Scouse is Liverpool 👌
Ronnie also starred in "The Sketch Show" alongside Lee Mack, Karen Taylor, Jim Tavaré and Tim Vine. Worth a watch ! (but hard to find in a good quality 🙁)
Ah, I knew she looked familiar, but couldn't place where!
Check out David Mitchell's (one season) series The Bubble?
If you want David Mitchell fix watch peep show, youll love it
I was a CCTV officer for Cornwall and we would often catch people on camera making foil pockets so they can put in other bags. For this we'd get foot officers down and arrest them for "going equipped" or the only reason you have one of these pockets is for theft.
Got to love Fiddler's Green.
Ronnie is mostly known as an impressionist. She had a show with Alistair McGowan in the 90s (or early 2000s)
Jimmy got the wrong Attenborough brother!
It was always my dream as a child, after having an interaction with an Orca called Winnie, at Windsor Safari Park, to be someone who worked at somewhere like Sea World, "training" Dolphins and Whales and doing day to day maintenance. Then when I was about 12 we went on a family holiday to Florida, and I saw an Orca deliberately hurting itself through the underwater glass, literally scratching itself, self harming.
If David Mitchell lights your candle, then you have got to check out "the unbelievable truth" a radio 4 programme that's available as a podcast 28 seasons so far, its hilarious.
You might check out Mock the Week- they tend to be time-topical, but the old ones are still bloody funny...
Was that the show with the big guy from lost? I remember rally enjoying that.
Louie Louie, performed by the Kingsmen.
I enjoy David Mitchell's improvised rants greatly too. Unfortunately I've never found as much satisfaction in his scripted ones. There's just something about his sputtering spontaneous indignation that isn't the same as pre-written material where he's clearly rehearsed exactly how angry to be, where to put the emphasis, and so on.
Amok comes from Malay according to the Interweb!
You have a Spirit Animal .Perfect
Elephant and castle is a really rough "neighborhood"
I loved the show Alcatraz!
I'm still annoyed that it didn't get a 2nd season, and ended with noel resolution.
Ronnie Anaconda is primarily an impressionist. However she made a concerted effort a few years ago to establish herself as a straight up comedian (and started doing a lot of panel shows too for the same reason) but rarely does impressions these days.
She is a very good stand up but not nearly as successful.
But I do respect her commitment to her art beyond 'funny voices'
Scouse means Liverpudlian outside of Liverpool but should be used with caution.
Within liverpool it's the working/under class and originally referred to the dock workers who operated the scows (flat bottomed barges, new york uses them for garbage)
But mainly for their role in the black market and association with crime.
Some Liverpudlians can take great offence at the term. They are a minority but an impassioned vocal one
Eric Prickle was a Conservative MP for David Cameron, a large block, who was in charge of secretary of state for communities and local government, and uk anti corruption champion, as well as other roles
Bloke not block
@@jameshumphreys9715 I've seen pictures, you were right first time.
Mengamok is a Malay word for a desperate charge in battle. I believe that's where the word "amok" comes from.
I suggest that Mitchell and Web look, get your fix!
Interesting. I play a lot of video games and also have a lot of lucid dreams. I hate them because I want to wake up and don't know how, I've tried so many methods. Sometimes I manage to control my real body to wake me up, but it is such an odd feeling. It feels like controlling two bodies at the same time, because you technically are, your dream body and real body. It fascinates me even more since you got me into The Sandman.
its not as easy to make a lavalamp by just putting water in oil and pheating it up.
You need to mix the water with some stuff so that we wax floats up when it gets a bit warmer.
You can actually find complete guides on how to make them ( with water and a form of wax)
I have 9 lavalamps spread around my living room :P
I need to preface what I'm about to say with: "I know I'm not the only one who recommended this ep, but I'm disappointed it's not up yet" (but I concede that I may have missed it). I'm still very keen to see your reaction to Series 6, episode 11 "Film" aka "Two former Footlights (Emma Thompson & Stephen) reminsce about the old days".
That said, I've only ever seen the XL version on Daily Motion, there might be other copyright issues there. As it is I'll watch while eagerly awaiting Sandman Ch. 3.
Believe it or not, it'll be up next week!
Have a look at a few Adam Hart Davis, factoid packed, mini documentaries. There's many a compilation on this site.
Louie Louie is Richard Berry and The Pharaohs. Lola is The Kinks
Louie Louie is the Kingsmen.
More David Mitchel has to mean you should watch the peep show series. Series 1 is a bit in the early stages of its development but still good.
I was born in 1991😂
Is it the kingsmen? 3:50
Lola was the kinks
Amok is a Malay word.
Steven’s explanation of Lucid Dreaming was pretty weak.
Actually, you first wonder if you’re in a dream and THEN look at your watch or a clock. You might not be able to see the time, but if you can you look away and look back and the time may have changed drastically. Unfortunately, I’ve done it so often the part of my dream that protects itself from me knowing is both allowing me to see my watch perfectly clearly AND keeping the time consistent. So I need to look for other clues.
Has he seen PEEPSHOW?
You are incredibly handsome 😊
Ah, another opportunity to say, Hey, watch Peep Show! =D
I bet he is in France. Is he in France?
Do you wonder how I know? Look carefully, there is a massive clue.
I presume to be in the top two you would have to have spelt it maths?
Are you really pedantic about apostrophe's?
I'm.
Oh no you di’ent
Alan can annoy me sometimes, going on too long with the jokey voices, this time was ok but he doesn't know when to stop sometimes & talks over others jokes.
