    We wanted to share our experience of having to say goodbye to our Shih Tzu, Scrappy in order to help others who have, or may be facing this terrible time. We will tell you about what we experienced with Scrappy's illness, her medical treatment, and why/when we decided to let her go across the Rainbow Bridge.
    At almost 16 years old, her little body just couldn't go anymore. Treatment kept her healthy and happy as long as possible, but Scrappy ultimately lost the battle with age and canine lymphoma. On January 26, 2019, we said goodbye in the most humane way possible.

    This was moving. I cried watching her enjoy the car ride and bacon.
    So sad, but it was her time. You protected her from suffering and were there for her.

    Today I just buried my beautiful rescue turned support dog, due to quick onset end stage lymphoma. He was only 6 and was an absolutely beautiful Rottie, 2 days ago he started breathing difficulty, so we brought him into the vet on day two. They ran some test and found he had a lot of fluid around his lungs and heart so much so that it was literally suffocating him. The vet who is a friend of ours, drew some fluid and tested it and found out he had lymphoma. So we had to make the very difficult yet right decision to put him down so he wouldn't suffer...bc he may have had hours or even a week to live...yet he was truly in pain and suffering. My kids, hubs, and I are all devastated. Even our other dog is upset.

      I am so sorry. It is such a hard situation and decision, but you made the right one. Give special attention to your other dog and they will pull through too.
      I know it's a sad time, but one day your sadness will turn to smiles at memories and photographs of your family member on the other side of the rainbow bridge.
      Peace & Love to you & your family. - K.J.

    Thank you so much for this video. Our dog was just diagnosed with lymphoma a few days ago, she’s only 4, and chemo/radiation isn’t an option. It’s been really difficult, but I find some relief in your story about Scrappy. I’m sure she loved being a part of your family and was so happy to have you there with her. I only hope the same for my dog. Well wishes ❤️

    Our boy just got diagnosed with it Monday. He’s only 7 1/2. We are devastated. Because of his weight chemo would’ve been $9k-$12k and is about an hour away from our house. We made a very hard decision to put him on steroids and herbs from the oncologist. 1-2 months is going to be terrible for our family. We lost our other boy last year to cancer.
    Thank you for that info about the importance of having the other pup with them when they are put down....our two pups were devastated and still have been to this day. Our princess will be the only one left and they are always glued together 😞😞😞

    1 of my 5 boxers was just diagnosed with Lymphoma. We got him checked out after he had this strange cough, didn't sound at all like kennel cough and his quality of life just started tanking down after that. Not eating as much, he's skinny as can be, just stands there all day, doesn't have the strength to even jump on the bed to sleep at night, and just looks at you with this pain in his eyes. We are scheduled to let him rest tomorrow 12/29/2022. RIP Tonka 'Tutu'

    I thought I was ready to watch this video but completely lost control of my emotions when you spoke about being the last thing your dog see's when they close their eyes.
    My Jack was diagnosed two weeks ago with Lymphoma, something I thought was an infection of some sort, my whole world came crashing down! My wife and I rescued Jack, he stole our hearts immediately, I didn't even know I could love a dog this much until he got Parvo at six months old, I rushed him into a vet begging and pleading for them to fix my baby! He beat the crap out of Parvo, he also has hip dysplasia, I am assuming he has some bad genes, the vet seems to think this is hereditary, and I began wondering about his brother and sister whom I also found homes for, all three came from terrible living conditions, and the owner already had two dogs o was feeding and just didn't take care of them and one day I noticed she went and got three puppies and they were curled up together on the tiny front porch with a tiny awning trying to stay dry from the rain, I'm not sure why anyone would get three new pups when they can't afford to take care of the ones they have, so after watching and constantly running after them from sneaking out of the gate and running in the street I decided to take Jack off her hands, and I did so without asking, infact the day I went to get him he was sleeping under a disgusting stroller outside of the gate, and from that day on he has never slept without us, his needs were catered to, and I decided to take the other two to the vet and get dewormed, the owner gave up ownership and I found them homes, I don't have the new owners information but all I can do is pray they are ok!
    Jack is four years old, he is one of the most beautiful souls I have EVER been blessed to be in the presence of, he is perfect! He is my baby boy whom I spoil, I still cater to his every single need! He won't even get off his and his brothers human bed without me laying something soft for his feet to land on, he will whine until I come help him. Jack started Prednisone and he went from being energized to sleeping all day, and what I thought was an eye infection was the cancer effecting his eye, today he starts taking CBD oil aswell, I hear great things about CBD oil, his Prednisone dosage has been lowered and now he is back to playing again! We have six fur kiddos, all rescues, two dogs and four cats and there isn't a living soul in this house that isn't attached to Jack, he is the heart of this little family me and my wife created! This is the worst situation EVER, he doesn't deserve this, no animals does and they should be exempt from these deadly diseases! I don't want to picture this world without him! Your video has provided some comfort, and I am sure when I finish it lol, I will feel alittle better! Thank you for making this, and giving someone like me the advice they needed to hear!

      @@TrulyRemarkableLife Thank you! As of right now he is trying to yank towels out of my hand lol. The prednisone has helped with the swollen lymph nodes, today is the first day that we are unable to feel any of the nodes, and all were very swollen, including the groin area, but he is still eating and chasing after the cats and being the love muffin he has always been! Thank you again, and I will keep you updated! Thank you for sharing your story, I am so happy to have found it! Just got off of the phone with the oncologist and he confirmed what Raj's primary vet said that we are at the end of being able to treat the lymphoma. We've got meds to alleviate side effects, so that is helpful. It's crazy how you see the reality right in front of you, but talking with the vet forces an acceptance that hurts even more. We were hoping to get a year with chemo, but we've had a good 6 mo. that we wouldn't trade for anything. It went by at lightning speed. Raj has b cell lymphoma, but it turns out there are sub levels related to aggressiveness, etc. His b cell is aggressive.
    It was a little easier when we had two dogs. I completely get what you are talking about when that "energy leaves". You feel it to your core. Right now I feel like we're stumbling forward, with broken hearts for legs, heading to that fork in the road that is unavoidable.
    Sorry to use your beautiful video meassage to share this. It just happened that I was watching it again when the oncologist called. Love to you guys and everyone else out there who is facing the same thing.

    Our little guy has been dealing with lymphoma for the last 6 mo. We did the CHOP protocol and he went into full remission, but it didn't last too long. Then did a few other types of chemo. We haven't tried any extreme supplements, just things to alleviate possible chemo side effects. He did well through the treatments. Recently he has stopped eating, and that is while being on Prednisone. The Pred kept his appetite up, but that seems to have changed. Also, his lymph nodes have gotten so large. We'll also be using Lap of Love. They helped us with our 18 yr. old cat and are amazing folks. Thank for this video. I don’t want to admit we're heading towards this final walk. I'll never be ready. Ever. I'm trying really hard though. 💔

    Thank you for your love filled video and I’m so very sorry for your loss. I know exactly what you both went through, for my wife and I are in the midst of the same nightmare. Our sweet, loving beautiful black and white Standard Poodle Riley has lymphoma and the time is very near. We are devastated and he’s only 4 years old. He’s had mostly very good days since he got sick April 8th. He went from being his normal goofy self on April 7th to being sick the next day. We had no clue anything was wrong as he didn’t, nor does he now have any swollen lymph glands. It was an ultrasound that found a mass in his abdomen and the biopsy came back as lymphoma. We put him on prednisone which did wonders for him almost to the point that we were starting to feel maybe he was miss diagnosed. We considered chemotherapy but just couldn’t see putting him through that especially given the limited time it would offer him. Instead he has spent the last two months enjoying life. But two days ago he started back sliding, and I feel that today, May 31st, is the first of his bad days. I hope we’ll have the strength and courage to do what needs to be done if it is the last of his good days as I fear it is.We’ll see what tomorrow brings. Thank you so much for your videodoes bring me some comfort.

We woke up to a waging tail and wet kisses.🥰🐾 He loves to go swimming and got quite excited as I walked across the sunken sun deck when I took him out this morning. His dock dog days sadly are behind him but he loves just sitting on that deck pawing and biting at the water. So, it’s a Riley pool day. Amazing owners, we just found out our elderly boy has lymphoma yesterday. My husband got him when he was having mental health issues when he was 15, we are trying to mentally prepare but it’s so hard. Our vet doesn’t want to go through with treatment aside from palliative care. We are making a bucket list and definitely adding French fries to his list. It totally sucks, I might ask if when the time comes our vet could come to our home to give the final injection of goodbye. Thank you for sharing!

      I know this comment is 2 years old. But I would like to know how you dealt with your dog's condition? My dog just got dxd of cancer. And I'm an absolute mess.

    • @TrulyRemarkableLife
      @TrulyRemarkableLife  Рік тому

      First and foremost, do what is best for your baby. Love them and make them comfortable... but also understand the realities of their condition. If it is truly treatable, it will become clear. It is all about their quality of life and confort. It is tempting to try extreme measures but you'll be mad at yourself later if it is at the expense of their comfort. In many cases, treatment will improve their life so don't lose hope. Also, cut yourself some slack. It is not easy to make decisions for your baby but they trust you and you have their best in mind. It's a learning process. We struggled to understand the benefits and problems. Watch as many videos and ask a lot of questions from your vet. Let your furbaby tell you what is working and what isn't. That's the secret. But.. for us it was about her 100% and keeping her healthy. It is hard and you'll have to feel your feelings and then make decisions based on the science and your personal situation. Most of all... don't be too hard on yourself. Thank you so much for this video. I initially found it as my younger dog got cancer and the tumor has gotten really bad, so I was researching on solutions and also on potentially letting go.
    However, today I got back to it after my older dog (her mom) just died after her heart stopped (she was 15 years old and her heart wasn't well) and my younger one is feeling very down
    I particularly remember what you mentioned about putting the other dog's collar on her. I put it next to her that while she was crying and she seemed to feel better after sniffing it. I also put one of the two towels I used to wrap my older dog before burrying her on the floor and she seems to always lay there if it's next to me.
    It was a very tough day for both of us, I had to take a 2-hour bus to come home to see the body of my old friend and take care of it while my younger buddy was there by herself, as I was on vacation, and I am glad I did as she was always a "shadow" of her, never thought Mila would pass away first, even by being old as she seemed to be very active even at her age, but sadly, this is the cycle of life and sometimes it is unexpected
    Anyway, thank you again for making such a sincere video, with good information but mostly for of sharing YOUR experience which I used as inspiration or comfort to alleviate mine.
    Wish you two all the best and hope you're staying safe

    Hi Craig. Hi KJ. I committed on your loving video about 3 months ago and told you of our precious Standard Poodle, Riley who was diagnosed with lymphoma in April. It saddens me to no end to tell you that Riley passed away at 5:54 this afternoon, Sept.15th. For about the past two weeks his energy levels had really began to decline. Although he began sleeping much more his appetite was healthy, had no digestive or urinary issues, and was still playful to the extent his energy levels would allow. Friday was a pretty good day for him, however yesterday this damn disease took his eyesight. We suspected he was having some issues, as over the past two weeks he became hesitant to walk down darkened hallways. By Friday we had to help guide him and yesterday he lost all his vision. And as if that wasn’t enough this damn disease wouldn’t even let him sleep. Saturday he started having hallucinations we believe. Every time he tried to sleep he would all of a sudden jump up with an obvious look of fear in his eyes. We knew time had come, to be brave and think only of him, which is what we did. And you guys gave me, us the strength to do so.And for that I am so thankful. This beautiful, smart and extremely loving little boy crawled into our hearts like no other dog ever has and probably ever will. We loved him soo very much. I’ve never felt such a sense of lose, sadness and pain. I’ve never cried so much in my life with the exception, I’m sure, of the weeks to come. September 15th will forever be a dark dark day indeed. We are inconsolable at this point and are praying for the pain to stop. Once again guys, thank you so much for your video. I’ve watched more times then I can count over the past months for different reasons. And now I’ll be watching it and praying that someday we to will be at peace.

      We are saddened by your loss. It will take time, but the beautiful warm memories of Riley will win over the sadness. Right now, try to find peace in knowing he's no longer in pain or scared. And somewhere over the rainbow bridge, he's happy and healthy.

      At the risk of wearing out my welcome this will be my last comment, I promise.....We had planned to do this at home for all the same reasons as you. But unfortunately it rapidly became an emergency and we could not allow him suffer. Knowing that the time was near a very dear friend sent us a book titled “I Will See You In Heaven”. Remarkably it was delivered sometime early Saturday I’m guessing because there it was, sitting on the front porch as I walked Riley out to the car. I sat to read this morning and randomly open it. This poem was on the page.
      I stood by your bed last night.
      I came to have a peep.
      I could see that you were crying.
      You found it hard to sleep.
      I whined to you softly as you brushed away a tear.
      I’m well, I’m fine, I’m here.
      I have so many things to show you.
      There is so much for you to see.
      Be patient--Live your journey out.
      Then come home safe to me.
      I hope you never cleaned off that french fry grease smudge.

    I'm actually getting referred to VSS right now. My Labrador Charlie just got diagnosed with Lymphoma after having his spleen removed. I'm scared of chemo for all the same reasons we all are when we first hear it so I've been looking for personal experiences with canine chemotherapy instead of just what vets are saying on UA-cam to reassure myself.

    The reason they don't go for high doses of chemo with dogs is they just won't cope with it-- its sad because in human remissions for NHL similar to canine lymphoma can be 5 -10 years plus to cure. We need more research into canine lymphoma it is such a common cancer. The things you describe in your post are so true, dogs are just like little people with exactly the same emotions, you sound like great owners for your little dog and spoilt her rotten as you should have.

    • @TrulyRemarkableLife
      @TrulyRemarkableLife  3 роки тому +1

      She reacted well and ended up having a remission with infusion treatment and prednisone for about 8-10 months. Unfortunately- although expected - it did return and she passed within just a few months. We were fortunate to be able to afford treatment and keep her healthy and feeling good for a long time compared to many pets. The relapse was just too much for her and it was time, but we were able to extend her life comfortably for at least 12 to 14 months in all. After the relapse, it was less than 3 months before we had to let her go. I'm sorry to hear yours is ill... I hope for the best results and to remain feeling good as long as possible. Sending lots of love.

    8/17/20 My dog Ernie, aka the Ernsters is gone now! I had to make that decision today and I'm ripped in pieces here! Just didn't believe it would take him in few months! I took him to vet when I noticed his neck swelling about 2 months ago! Long story short lymphoma cancer :-( they told me chances he will live year couldn't be answered! I immediately started to give him the best last summer ever just in case, from walks to car rides and yep he to though started staring at me to! Would bark but I had no clue that was part of it, heck but last week I came home from work Wednesday he was limping, after this started by Friday he was in bad breathing and had no urge to move he only gave effort to go outside to go potty that's it! Soon as he made back through the door he would just collapse I had to help hold him up on Sunday and yep today he is gone! Just crazy how fast it took him just sad right now

    • @TrulyRemarkableLife
      @TrulyRemarkableLife  Місяць тому

      It was a set course of chamo prescribed over several weeks/months. It could not continue forever. She went into remission after the first round for about a year. During that time she was on steroids and other meds. The second round of Chemo was only to help her be comfortable and we discontinued it after it was clear she wasnt going to survive. Every situation is different. We did what was best for her, but it may very by how your pet tolerates the treatment.
