In Gen 3, at least for Emerald as it is the game that I own, there is a limit on the number of items you can have in your inventory in the Items part of the inventory. However, you have to accumulate a lot of items to do that. I always put things like heartscales, evolution stones, shards, and certain held items that I currently don't have a use for in the PC as their usage is very niche and are not necessary for you to have them with you all the time. I wished they kept it for Gen 4 because scrolling in the inventory to find a specific item is significantly slower than it was in Gen 3.
Adored this retrospective. I’ve only played Let’s Go Pikachu out of the Kanto games so learning the ins and outs of the other games’ strengths and flaws was great.
Original Blue is definitely not a complete ass, the stuff he says comes off more "big brother teasing". Though I do really like Pokéspe Blue, and I think his shittyness is similarly childish. Also, I like that Blaine's gym trainers are all burglars. I don't remember if it's canon or fan theory but I like the idea that he was picking them up from the mansion in Cinnabar and giving them a stable job. Also, Bill is kinda insane. Forget the whole swapping bodies thing, Bill took the PC system made for storing items and not only made functionality for storing Pokémon but also provided *multiple* sections of it for free for every trainer. You literally don't even know you're using his system until you meet him.
I always found it funny that the pc just says "someone's" pc til you find the regional IT guy! As a kid I just assume we stole someone else's box and didn't tell em LOL 😂
I personally like yellow more than red/blue. It's more challenging and the Elite 4 aren't as easily manipulated (bring any poison type against Lance's dragonite).
I’ve played gen 1 a lot at this point and I like to use my GameShark to enhance my experience now. For example one time I gave a scyther twin-needle for me to use in my play through and it was super fun. I try not to make myself overpowered but rather do some basic game balancing like giving scyther a bug move or, if I’m playing Red or Blue, give Charizard fly
Just came off your gen 2 video, excited to watch this, excited for future videos but also, "Videos I made in 8th grade going from kanto to galar" I took fucking psychic damage from that, ow. Hahah. Meanwhile here my ass is still happily playing each gen since the first released when I was in like...second grade.
"I'm sorry Vaporeon, but maybe you would appreciate it not being in the puplic eye" HOOOOLD UUUP 😂 Is that referring to what i think it's referring to, what you referred to other "references" with that? 😂
In the Let’s Go games what I think should have happened is that the “new” Pokemon added would be like the baby Pokemon (and even introduce breeding), and all the evolutions of Kantonian Pokemon from Gen 2 onward (as long as the conditions could be met). Like you could evolve Eevee into Glacian at Sea Foam islands or Leafeon in Virdian Forest for example. Another thing I would do, in order to peak curiosity is to have trainers from other regions visit and even battle you with Sinnoh, Hoenn, Unova, even maybe introduce a (then new) Galar Pokemon…but you catch them because they’re not native to Kanto. You get to battle them sure, and maybe Professor Oak explains to you about different regions and how while the Kanto Regional Pokedex might be 151, there’s untold numbers of Pokemon throughout the world and if you wanna learn more, he’ll tell you to one day go visit Professor Magnolia in the Galar Region and she’ll teach you. Make the world feel lived in.
Man I don't know why Gamefreak hate Double Battles so much. It gives the battle system automaticilly huge amount of depth without changing the formula. But nope, remakes only in the Battle Tower. And removed in Let's Go. Gamefreak wtf. Excellent video my friend! 🧡
Love the video. Ive seen just about every pokemon retrospective but this regional retrospective format is really unique. I really like your analysis whether i agree with certain points or not. Subbed bc i cant wait to watch all of them. Fun fact for you. The reason only 202 were in RSE was bc the feedback they got for Gen 2 was it felt the same as Gen 1 due to the fact the Gen 2 pokemon took a huge backseat to Gen 1 pokemon during the main story in availability and representation in trainer teams. So they scrapped their plans to do the same with Gen 3 and originally only wanted Gen 3 pokemon in the game. Like BW way before its time. They only added in older mons to balance the game. I agree with this decision as i do feel Gen 2 mons are largely ignored before postgame in GSC hardly any of the important trainers use them and it does feel more like Gen 1 in that regard. I disagree the games feel the same Gen 2 added so many new mechanics idk what ppl are talking about. Sorry this is getting a little TLDR but thought that was an interesting tidbit.
1:23:00 the reason i stopped playing pokemon after/during gen 3, wasnt the amount of mons but the defacto impossiblity to "catch them all". I stick with my gen 1+2 games. Even the remakes make it so you cant cause you need even more of them and arent able to.
Great video man ! And don't feel guilty for liking Let's Go, you do you. I personally don't care too much about it(Losing my save file kinda soured my thought on it), but there is some things that can only be found there, which makes it really interesting to go back on.
'i don't know how kids back in the day got through this' ie finding out to talk to the person the mart it's easy. you want pokemon, you go to the pokemart to get pokeballs. you can't get pokeballs b/c you gotta deliver the package. you take the package, go to oak and deliver it then go back and get your pokeballs. it's basic exploration and common sense back when games let you figure things out than holding your hand like you aren't smart enough to do the math. great retrospective video btw; i'm watching through them all. that statement just puzzled me.
I agree a lot with all the complaining LMAO Specially in Yellow, and Let's Go...I actually stopped playing Let's Go because I got SO bored. Like, cute graphics but I ALREADY did this back in 98 😅 I hated Pikachu so much, its an ok electric but I would prefer an Electrabuzz or even a Magnamite now. Or you know...Raichu. Also Bulbasaur Master Race 😎 I tried other pokemons but Bulbasaur is the best for 1st Gen, until Erika he is ready to take down everything
I agree and I disagree. Basically, I agree, besides your take on yellow, and I didn't like Trace because I thought he was annoying, but I get why you like him now. With yellow though, I think whether you'll prefer it or the originals depends on how much you like the original series' icons. They're basically the same experience as far as I know (but I grew up on Yellow, so that may be my bias showing). Anyway, if you like the iconic stuff from the show like having all the starters, Pikachu following behind you, or Jessie and James showing up now and then, you'll probably prefer yellow to red/blue. If you don't like the Pikachu though, it's not like you can't send him to computer jail and play it similar to red or blue, just with all of the starters over just the one. I like the sprites better too. I would play FR/LG over yellow, but yellow over R/B. I like the Let's go games, but the control really kneecaps the game unless you play handheld. Nice video though, I liked it. And yeah, the Teachy TV is a perfect compromise on tutorials.
I get what you mean, if I grew up like that I'd probably prefer it aswell. (Though no raichu is kinda dealbreaking) How do u feel about lets go? In alot of ways it very much an HD yellow, but I never hear much about it in comparison to yellow.
@Chubby_Bubby I think it feels like a pretty accurate remake of yellow. There's even a few neat easter eggs here and there. I believe it was in the Pokémon fan's house where you get the voucher, he's got memorabilia for Pikachu, Eevee, and Clefairy, which is a cute reference to Pokémon pink. I like the new catching mechanics in concept, but the control needs a lot of work. If you could map buttons to play it like you're in handheld mode I might pick it over FR/LG, honestly. Though the lack of a post game and Johto Pokémon still makes that a tough decision. Paywalling Mew instead of making it a mini event was a bit of a mistake. Wasn't that around the time the first movie remake came out? I forget. If it was though, missed opportunity for it to be tied to movie ticket sales or a mystery gift or something. The follow Pokémon mechanic was perfect, and I would almost excuse the dex cut if every game had this kind of feature...almost. Here, it feels like it works though. I kinda wish you could get SOME Johto 'mons after the champion. I just really love Furret, he's just so cute. Anyway, the loss of the Sevii islands was a bummer, but understandable. I remember liking some of the challenges where you raised a specific Pokémon to fight a champion of that species one on one, and I was gonna do most of them but it got stale with nothing else to do besides the character rematches every day. I liked the teams of the old cast, but wish Red would occasionally use his G/S/C team to parallel the player if they took all the Pokémon like the original game Red did (and I did in my run for nostalgia). I think they're using their Manga teams though? Which is cool if they are. I think this art style is perfect, and they really should have stuck with it. I liked being able to pet your Pikachu or Eevee, but I never bothered to dress Pikachu up. I think toward the end I gave him that slight spike hairstyle to differentiate him from other Pikachu, but that was it. It was more trouble than it was worth though 🤣 It's a fun game, but has some glaring flaws. I started shiny hunting in D/P/Pt, but I prefer how it works with the catch chain in this one. I got a black Charizard and named him Charcoal ^^ Sorry about the wall of text, I had a fair bit to say. I revisit it every once in a blue moon, but not nearly as much as the GBA or DS games.
I startd my Pokemon journey with Yellow and I dropped off around the 4th or 5th gen, though I kept playing for half of Sun/Moon but pretty much on autopilot after Sinnoh. I still love Pokemon, I know of the newer gens and like a few of the new Pokes, but I really only play an online pokemon mmo now, which has the early Pokes.
I found the trade theory actually very viable. Quite sad. It's funny that it often works though. The reason we trade most of our pokémon is for trade evolutions
I dont mind the catching mechanics in Lets go. Once you get the angles down in terms of which direction to throw is very easy. It does take time to get used to it but essentially one specific angle will always throw perfect to the left right and center. You just have to experiment with what the angle actually is. I can throw near perfect with the joy con everytime. I find it to be satisfying to get it down. I much prefer the standard wild battles but for a one off i think its fine. I really like Let's go. There was clearly a lot of love and care put into it. Also i hate the term "guilty pleasure". Like what you like be confident about it. Enjoyment of media is entirely subjective and there is no right or wrong opinion. Only the technical aspects of game are truly objective.
As someone who agrees that Charizard is over saturated and knows that venusaur was reds starter. I think it makes sense that they corrected the starters, I mean tell me it doesn’t make more sense for red to get the fire type, blue to get the water type, and green to get the grass type
A mix of johto Pokemon would have been appreciated in let's go, that's for sure. But while i would like a mix in Fire Red/Leaf Green the main problem was the Gen 2 Pokemon were almost all trade locked for the new evolutions. Basically useless as an addition -_-
Game freak explained hypno didn't understand talking a kid was wrong. It eats dreams kid makes dreams bro just took him some fast food lol the kid was fine.
After doing all pokemon games can you do a retrospective of all yakuza games and all kingdom hearts games and all persona games and all final Fantasy games if you do that i will subscribe to you ok so yeah 😉👍🏻
I personally appreciate Dexxit for a few reasons 1. It helps with the pokedex 2. Imagine the framerate on Scarlet and Violet if all 1000+ pokemon were popping up left right and center 3. It makes your teams more unique 4. It makes it more of an adventure since as someone who dosent know half the mons available in each game it makes it a suprise when for example i get jumped by a horde of Scyther in Scarlet and Violet (yes this has happened and i legit forgot i got Koraidon as a ride pokemon and started cursing as the got closer and closer while i ran for my life) 5. For some regions it makes sense like do you think you would find Kyogre in Kanto Also preach on the Chase love my man is overhated
your second point is null and void because if they actually cared, they'd make a game that wasn't so poorly optimised. also, just because the pokemon are programmed into the game, doesn't mean they're going to be popping up everywhere. do you even know what a national dex is? its clear that you don't know what youre talking about. editing this comment to also say, it does not make teams more unique. less pokemon = less diversity = less unique.

I’ve only played Let’s Go Pikachu out of the Kanto games so learning the ins and outs of the other games’ strengths and flaws was great.
i also was under impression mew island event was in frlg not just emerald
I need an Eevee backpack. Can you imaging a big, fat, bearded guy in his mid 30s with that on his back? 😅
Mid 30s guys ... the kind of guys (like me🤣), who watch gen1 / 2 stuff like this😇
Original Blue is definitely not a complete ass, the stuff he says comes off more "big brother teasing".
But we all know its someones PC.
As a og pokemon player, we just went back home and then to oak with the parcel.
I personally like yellow more than red/blue. It's more challenging and the Elite 4 aren't as easily manipulated (bring any poison type against Lance's dragonite).
Its wonderful retrospective series..
I also recommend to read pokemon adventure manga for the story and continuity
I’ve played gen 1 a lot at this point and I like to use my GameShark to enhance my experience now. For example one time I gave a scyther twin-needle for me to use in my play through and it was super fun. I try not to make myself overpowered but rather do some basic game balancing like giving scyther a bug move or, if I’m playing Red or Blue, give Charizard fly
Very glad that this was recommended to me
500 views club!! Wonderful video 👏👏
Just came off your gen 2 video, excited to watch this, excited for future videos but also, "Videos I made in 8th grade going from kanto to galar"
I took fucking psychic damage from that, ow. Hahah. Meanwhile here my ass is still happily playing each gen since the first released when I was in like...second grade.
Oof yeah, sorry to sideswipe you with that 😅
But thanks for enjoying the video!
Love the videos!
Thank You so much!
"I'm sorry Vaporeon, but maybe you would appreciate it not being in the puplic eye"
HOOOOLD UUUP 😂
Is that referring to what i think it's referring to, what you referred to other "references" with that?
Love this video❤
Great video man ! And don't feel guilty for liking Let's Go, you do you.
I personally don't care too much about it(Losing my save file kinda soured my thought on it), but there is some things that can only be found there, which makes it really interesting to go back on.
"Having no idea why he won't shit or get off the pot" 😂 holy shit
Good review 👍
Thanks, I'm glad you liked it! 👍
'i don't know how kids back in the day got through this' ie finding out to talk to the person the mart
it's easy. you want pokemon, you go to the pokemart to get pokeballs. you can't get pokeballs b/c you gotta deliver the package. you take the package, go to oak and deliver it then go back and get your pokeballs. it's basic exploration and common sense back when games let you figure things out than holding your hand like you aren't smart enough to do the math.
great retrospective video btw; i'm watching through them all. that statement just puzzled me.
I agree a lot with all the complaining LMAO
Specially in Yellow, and Let's Go...I actually stopped playing Let's Go because I got SO bored. Like, cute graphics but I ALREADY did this back in 98 😅
I hated Pikachu so much, its an ok electric but I would prefer an Electrabuzz or even a Magnamite now. Or you know...Raichu.
Also Bulbasaur Master Race 😎 I tried other pokemons but Bulbasaur is the best for 1st Gen, until Erika he is ready to take down everything
You asked how kids knew to take the package back to oak back in the day. We bought strategy guides from the store for almost every game.
Never ran across this channel before. This shit is dank bro.
this is great!
(Though no raichu is kinda dealbreaking)
How do u feel about lets go?
I got a black Charizard and named him Charcoal ^^
Sorry about the wall of text, I had a fair bit to say. I revisit it every once in a blue moon, but not nearly as much as the GBA or DS games.
Rebellion (Charizard
Griffon (Zapdos)
Deadweight (Gyarados)
Arbiter (Nidoking)
Neo (Alakazam)
Chuck (Machamp)
Cool looking team 👍
Love that name for Gyarados btw!
Pokemon Snap was the best pokemon game eveeerrrrrrrrrr
No other game lets you evolve Slowpoke the canon way. Therefore Snap is superior
Don't forget that Prof. Oak is also a world renowned poet/philosopher.
Love your videos and your take one Pokémon(Although, your take is incorrect on Yellow)
Great video, however you do get a down vote for the yellow hate, it’s the best version.
I found the trade theory actually very viable. Quite sad. It's funny that it often works though. The reason we trade most of our pokémon is for trade evolutions
Watching at x2 speed, I could easily get you confused for Scott the Woz.
„dOOGOONG“ took me tf outttt
Lance is a flying type trainer with a dragon bias 3 of his pokemon are dragon all of his pokemon are flying type
1:43:47
"Or whatever.. I'm not your Dad"
B-but... But... Would you want to be?
Fun fact reds most coninical starter is poliwag lol sense it's the only team of his that isn't player based and up for interpretation
Clefairy.
JOHTO NEXTTT
Hope to see you cover RSE.
As someone who agrees that Charizard is over saturated and knows that venusaur was reds starter. I think it makes sense that they corrected the starters, I mean tell me it doesn’t make more sense for red to get the fire type, blue to get the water type, and green to get the grass type
....U named your Growlite WHAT????
A mix of johto Pokemon would have been appreciated in let's go, that's for sure.
But while i would like a mix in Fire Red/Leaf Green the main problem was the Gen 2 Pokemon were almost all trade locked for the new evolutions. Basically useless as an addition -_-
And, til THIS FUCKING DAY, RBY aren’t even on the NSO 😂🙄
1:52:23 one piece again
39:43 Mewtwo is basically ai
Fighting gym in saffron city I always assumed was the idea of minor league gyms
Bulbasaur is a frog, not a dinosaur...
Game freak explained hypno didn't understand talking a kid was wrong. It eats dreams kid makes dreams bro just took him some fast food lol the kid was fine.
Has anyone ever told you that you sound like Brock
Bulbasaur is a frog not a dinosaur
49:41 guys, play Pokemon Yellow Legacy, thank me later 🤙🏼
Is that a rom hack?
BDSP should've used the lets go art style at least
After doing all pokemon games can you do a retrospective of all yakuza games and all kingdom hearts games and all persona games and all final Fantasy games if you do that i will subscribe to you ok so yeah 😉👍🏻
so true... 1:28:00 ,this graphics is much better compare to other main line pokemon this days cute and colofull..
The Lets Go gamee barely qualify in my opinion.
I personally appreciate Dexxit for a few reasons
1. It helps with the pokedex
2. Imagine the framerate on Scarlet and Violet if all 1000+ pokemon were popping up left right and center
3. It makes your teams more unique
4. It makes it more of an adventure since as someone who dosent know half the mons available in each game it makes it a suprise when for example i get jumped by a horde of Scyther in Scarlet and Violet (yes this has happened and i legit forgot i got Koraidon as a ride pokemon and started cursing as the got closer and closer while i ran for my life)
5. For some regions it makes sense like do you think you would find Kyogre in Kanto
Also preach on the Chase love my man is overhated
your second point is null and void because if they actually cared, they'd make a game that wasn't so poorly optimised.
also, just because the pokemon are programmed into the game, doesn't mean they're going to be popping up everywhere. do you even know what a national dex is? its clear that you don't know what youre talking about.
editing this comment to also say, it does not make teams more unique. less pokemon = less diversity = less unique.
i love green 👍
can i kiss her? 🥴
first tee hee haha
Something something kaiju yaoi
The reason they didn't go with Clefairy is because Pikachu is gender neutral and they wanted to stay that way, thus Eevee.
The fucking explosion at 22:55 happened right as i was reversing and i SWORE I HIT THE CAR IT SCARED THE SHIT OUT OF ME
