  • We thought it'd be cool to compare Fender's new American Professional Series Jaguar to the American Vintage '65 Jaguar. Both excellent guitars in their own right but let's check out specs changes, and tones.

    Nice demo, but to help out potential buyers I need to point out that
    11:05 Is labeled as neck pickup, but it is the series position.

    I own this guitar! I actually bought Fender’s American Professional Jaguar in Sonic Gray when they came out in 2017. I really like the V-Mod pickups and think that Michael Frink did a great job in carefully designing them. I’m currently setup with a Boss RV-6 pedal through Mesa Boogie’s Blue Angel Custom 1X12 Combo amp so that could have a lot to do with how in love I am with the sound and tone. In the future I will likely buy a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe. This may authenticate the Fender sound more closely to what the 60’s had in store as the Jaguar came to notoriety.

    I love that sonic grey, but I still prefer the older styles. I prefer a thin neck.

    First time I actually heard the "Drop D locking trem" mentioned. Kinda creative interpretation of the system. Most of the time they tell you it's for "if a string breaks on stage you can lock it so the other strings won't go out of tune", which always seemed kinda unlikely, 'cause SRV said; "just change 'em while playing on stage"...

    Thank you for the comparisons, from a 62 Reissue American Vintage Jaguar owner. Just what I wanted to see. Wish I could afford both.

    The old one has glassy and more woody vibe while new one has bright strings sound.
    Who ever came up with the new colors this year deserves a reward. The Cosmetic of this new professional line is beautiful. I find it a bit weak sounding. Fender is smart. As you go up the higher model, the sound of the guitar will have Bigger, Wider Frequency range, Fatter Necks, Lighter weight body and Vintage relic cosmetics most of the time.

    If i were a Jazzmaster owner (i will in next future) i put three pickups on these guitar, two p90 pickups at neck and bridge but one jaguar single-coil in mid position. THX BY THE VIDEO!

    That's not a clownburst. It's the entire circusburst. Also that's not "shielding" around the pickups. That's to focus the magnetic field more tightly on the individual strings

    cool review though sound examples are too quiet..and is it me or are the guitars slightly out of tune ? first riff playing rhythm stands out as the most

      Marc-olivier Johnson I agree. Playing was not good at all and the guitars were out of tune. Let a good player show off how these guitars sound and let them ring.

    I love 90's. I love distortion, I love Dinosaur Jr., Sonic Youth, but also love clean tones.... Wich Jaguar do you recommend?
    ( I prefer Jaguars than Jazzmaster, because of the scale... ) Thank you!!!

      Squier VM Jaguar and install your own Fender pure vintage '65 pickups. That's what I did...sounds 90% as good as the AVRI 65 at a third of the price.

  • @bjdeitz

    Thanks for the review. I was curious about how they stacked up. The AMPro sounds like it has a lower output at the bridge than the '65, but as more of the bridge pickup was used the '65 thinned and flattened out where the AMPro had some nice extra-harmonic stuff happening. I wonder about how well either of these guitars were setup since they didn't seem to play in tune. Either way, it gives a good idea of where these overlap and where they're different.

    i suspect the professional is meant to sound better with modern distortion ~ well i hope so because it sounds remarkably bland next to the 65

      I have the same guitar. The best guitar I have ever played or owned, with a Mastery Bridge and Vibrato added. Never thought it would be beaten. Just bought one of the last of the Pro Series 1 Jazzmasters. I hate to say it, and never thought I would, but it has taken the place of the Jag. Awesome tone! The greatest Surf Guitar of all time!!

    • @bumblefritz
      @bumblefritz 3 роки тому +1

      @@TheMyndsurfer Very nice. I put a Mastery bridge on my Squier Jazzmaster, solid as a rock. Fortunately and surprisingly I never had to change the bridge on my Jaguar. Those bridges are notorious for being unstable, but mine has never given me any problems, even with heavy strumming and tremolo use.

    • @TheMyndsurfer
      @TheMyndsurfer 3 роки тому +1

      @@bumblefritz Hi. Yeah, I play Surf Guitar, Dick Dale style, double trem. picking with heavy picks. The strings used to jump out all over the place. I put on a String Buzz which altered the angle onto the Bridge and it was pretty good but still not 100%. Mastery Bridge fixed it, Master Vibrato was the icing on the cake. The new Bridges on the Jazz Pro are great.No problems. I didn't like the angle of the Tremelo arm though so I added a Mastery Vibrato and it is now the best guitar I have ever played. Without a doubt, two of the best ever made!

    • @bumblefritz
      @bumblefritz 3 роки тому +1

      @@TheMyndsurfer If my stock Jag bridge ever goes to crap I'm no doubt switching to a Mastery. As far as the tremolo angle, I bent the bar a bit to give it more vibrato range, I also put a very tiny bend into the part that goes into the body, now the bar stays put where I leave it and doesn't swing.

      Andymanaman Every reviewer from the UK to the US is not pronouncing it correctly. However, here in Texas we know how to speak and pronounce it the right way.. JAGWAR.

    • @1983Beardo
      @1983Beardo 7 років тому +4

      Also, despite being an Englishman myself it's worth noting that it's an American animal whose name derives from an Amazonian trade language which in itself is derived from Portuguese. A similar word in Portuguese for a pronunciation reference is the word for water, which in Portuguese is Agua - pronounced like "Agwar". So really, much as I hate to admit it, Jagwar is actually more correct than Jag-You-Are. Plus it's an American guitar, and that's how they pronounce it!
