Eoghan West I don't know about these specific ones, but the standard spec on jazzmasters and jaguars is for the top switch to turn off the bridge pick up, and force on the neck pick up, regardless of if the other controls would have it turned off.

I think you have your bases mixed up. A runner getting thrown out at first by an outfielder basically never happen. It's probably about a runner going from third to home, because then left field would be behind you and the ball really would "come out of left field" both literally and figuratively.

Guys, its a shame you didn't check the specs properly on the Jaguar, cause I was waiting for your demo of it. Second position is both pickups in series, and 4th position is both in parallel, sort of a humbucker sound, with noise cancelling. The upper switch is a Phase switch that works only on 2 and 4. The volume pots have a new "treble bleed" technology so when you turn them down you dont loose definition and treble. The neck has a new profile that gets thicker or thinner depending on where you play. Please don't get sloppy on your demos and explanations, cause you're a reference for us all. Thanks again.

I have owned a Mexican Classic Player Jaguar for 5 years and I love it!! Such a versatile guitar with the lower impedance upper volume control for darker tones. (Even used it in a Uni Jazz gig the other day!!) Note controversially I like the tremolos on these guitars I have always found them easy to use and closer to a bigsby than a strat trem. These new versions of the Jaguar & Jazzmaster are stunning.
18:47 "I know Jimi never played a guitar like that" Jimi actually played a Jazzmaster in his early days as a backup guitar player! You can look up videos on youtube when he was a backup playing both an olympic white, and sunburst Jazz. He also played the sunburst one a bit into his career with the experience, and played a jag many times in the early days of the experience, you can find tons of pictures of him with both guitars on google images.

Hendrix played both Jaguar and Jazzmaster occasionally back in 67 and 68. In fact because he was always bad with money he played the guitar he could get his hands on.
I bought the American Pro Jazzmaster a couple of weeks ago and its insanely good. The neck profile in particular makes transitions so smooth and the pickups sound awesome. I was hesitant at first not to have the additional rhythm circuit, but the tone suits my playing and keeps things simple. Great work Fender.
Jimi Hendrix played a jazzmaster with Little Richards. I love the Andertons channel, but I wish there was a little more fact checking. They couldn't do a simple google search to find out about the switch on the Jaguar?laziness.

Also at @11:40 the purpose of that small tailpiece-lock is for when you break a string, it keeps the other strings from being pulled out of pitch due to the lost tension via the spring inside the body cavity. this allows you finish the current song or set before absolutely having to apply your new string.

I’m a strat guy and have always been but I really love my jag. It’s just really cool and honestly, something different. It has chime and character but doesn’t quite do what a tele or strat does. I like the old school, switches everywhere, rhythm and lead layout too. I’m not sure why they dumbed it down. I feel like if you’re gonna get a jag, you might as well go for the gusto.
I have a Fender Jaguar I bought in 2011, it's a 'Blacktop' Model. It doesn't have all the fancy switching, just a Vol, Tone, a 3-way switch for the two Humbucker pickups, and a Tone-o-matic bridge. I LOVE it. The 24" Scale makes it a breeze to play. I got it 'cause it reminded me of the 'Student Models' of the good old days back in the 1960's and Surf Music. I play it almost every day. But today I have my '86 Strat out.
The lock on the Jazzmaster and Jaguar tremolo system is for an emergency use. If you break a string, that causes the other strings to break and go out of tune, due to the higher tension caused by the one string breaking. The lock is there so that if you break a string you lock the trem system down, lowering the tension on the strings, your guitar stays in tune, you replace the string and then proceed to keep rocking. It’s actually a cool idea, but I’ve never gotten to see it in a real life situation, however.
You should have done some of the vintage jaguars with all the complicated switching for selecting the different pickups (each pick up had its own on off switch) and the high pass filter. The original ones also had different circuits for rhythm and lead and each with their own volume and tone pots. The tremolo lock is mainly for if you don't have the arm in and just want to keep it stable. Ive got an early 80's made in Japan jag and love it to bits.
Johnny Marr should get a royalty on every 4 way switch jag sold he came up with that idea . Usually like these videos . Do some extra credit homework on Jazzmaster or Jags.

I'd really love to suggest a baritone six string shoot out/vs. video. Baritones don't get the love they deserve, and it'd be a cool opportunity to see the new Chapman ML-1 Baritone Standard in action, as I'm after one... Selfishly suggesting that haha.
Do a comparison between a Jazzpaster vs a P90 equipped Les Paul, and a Telecaster equipped with broad field Humbuckers. Throw in a Mini Hmbuckers equipped Firebird too, if you like. I'd like to see how similar and how different, those guitars are, to each other, and why.
Pickup Note: Just so you guys know, my pal the great California offset repair expert, went under the pickup covers on the Pro Jazzmaster... they are not JM pickups at all. They are thin and tall under there. They are essentially Strat units hiding under JM covers. Not the same animal at all. The "big ass casings" were for a reason. The very flat and wide coil created a very distinctive low end. Play an vintage JM through a 4x10 fender amp and then switch to a strat (or that pro) and you'll hear a MASSIVE change.
just a heads up, i have the olive green P bass and it looks way more "gray" irl compared to the green you'll see in photos and vids. i bought one used from reverb on a whim and was convinced the dude sold me the wrong bass lmao. still beautiful but way more faded.
Interesting comparison! These guitars seem to be quite removed from the originals. The upper bout switch on the Jaguar is to switch from a rhythm to a lead sound purportedly, and you can set it on the vintage spec Jaguar so this works pretty well. As it was demoed here the upper bout switch on this model works differently by cutting the tone frequency. On the original the rhythm channel has separate volume and tone controls for the neck pickup on the upper bout. If you switch down on the upper bout of the original you get both pickups and the controls which are switched by three two-ways on the lower bout, so as to punch through with the lead sound on a solo. This is actually quite useful if covering both lead and rhythm parts as you can literally change up at the flick of a switch. The player tricks for the bridge are to file a notch in the saddles for each string, use heavy strings and fit a small bar over the strings by the tail stop to increase the angle over the bridge. This keeps the strings in the saddle and also improves tone. The trick with the vibrato damper is to keep it locked for your set and it stays in tune better, breaking strings never helps. When you get to the encore you can switch it off for some deep divebombs or not. Also, no surf guitar or heavy grunge sounds on this video? That was a big miss since these guitars virtually invented the sounds for whole alternative rock genres.
The trem-lock on these guitars prevents the unchanged strings from going sharp with moderate drop-tunings. E.g. drop D. It may of course also help if you break a string as mentioned in the video, but that is not its intended purpose. Was kinda surprised that someone like Lee or Rob doesn't either already know or work this out.
"Out of left field" is an American slang term from baseball. Since left field is the farthest position from first base, the left fielder has to throw the ball further than anyone else for a first base out. So, in slang, it means it is the furthest possible place to make a play, but still in the ballpark. That's why more obscure or different bands and musicians are said to be 'out of left field'.
When you're a beginner neither hand knows what to do. I write LH but play guitar RH, now that these hands are programmed/trained I couldn't play LH to save my life. Saved myself a lot of LH surcharges over the years 'n all ;^)
I will politely disagree with almost everything you have said - do right handers complain that there's too many options to choose from? Left handers have had very little options historically (now is better than 18 years ago when I started playing however). But closely monitoring the Facebook left handed pages is very revealing. Revelation brought out an offset copy last year, instead of them sitting in the shop for years gathering dust, lefties had to wait for deliveries as a number of stores couldn't keep up with demand (including myself).
Jazzmasters are my personal favorite! I was a little sad to see that they ditched the second time circuit. Always though that was the secret weapon of these guitars.
i normally don't like how much fender charge for their guitars, but having playing the last 2 years of their jazzmasters and jags, they feel absolutely lovely. Especially the squires and mexicans, for the money, are insane value as far as feel and sound compared to the past years' versions.
I have a Gretsch 6120-55 and a Gibson ES-175 and I have to admit that the Gretsch gets more love. The Gretsch has more sonic personality and also has that cool factor. Will I get rid of my Gibson? No way! I have solid body guitars that I absolutely love, but I think nothing else sounds as good for roots rock, country and jazz as a hollow body electric.
Well, now we gotta see the Jaguar Classic with buckers. Oh, so many guitars on my wishlist because of this channel! I really liked the Les Paul hollow body from a video last year.
Dudes, know your gear before you record. Lee says the JM PU come in "bigger casings" as if this accurately defines the PU...not only are the casing wider, the whole bobbin, and thus the windings have a wider and flatter dimension than the Jaguar. The Jag is deeper and narrower plus has the come baseplate to effect the magnetic field shape. This is stuff is not hard to know and articulate.
The switching on the Jaguar Rob is playing is: 4-way switch: 1. Brige 2. Bridge+Neck (parallel) 3. Neck 4. Bridge+Neck (in series) The switch at the top reverses the phase on one of the pickups, resulting in additional tones for 4-way positions 2 and 4.
Can you suggest to Lee that the thumbnails on the Andertons channel get colour coded? Currently they all look pretty similar at a glance, it'd be great to easily spot Chappers+Captain/Keyboard Corner/etc eps in the video list. Even a coloured border of a few pixels would do the trick..
Darrell Braun Guitars (on UA-cam) did a good comparison between the Fender Strat and the G&L Legacy. Each has their different strengths, was a real good comparo.
I would love to see G&L vs. Fender. Andertons do list G&L on the website. Shame they don't also offer Suhr guitars, a threesome with Pete would be awesome.
the jazzmaster pickups are flatter than the jaguar or normal strat single coils, they are so wide as there is less room on the bobbin than on the taller regular single coils
what happens when blues players get offsets? chaos lol OK recommended string gauge for a jaguar and jazzer is 11. these come stock with 9s! the mustang saddles won't pop ...however fender got the width wrong on the pro am ..you need a smaller width .also jaguar necks never maple before . I have the Johnny Marr jag ..best guitar ever when modded right .BTW chappers. .my bloody valentine use jazz masters lol lol
Papa Poncho jr. I imagine the reason they didn’t is they are so firmly rooted in blues and metal they probably have no idea who Johnny Marr is. I find Lee and Chappers slightly annoying when they review offsets or Rickenbackers or any guitar not traditionally used for blues or metal because they don’t know what to do with them
Hey, don't you guys think that Rob's band (Dorje) should write some songs with "guest" solos of Lee? He's a great guitarist, it would be interesting to see what they could make together ;)
Btw, Dorje is an awesome band, go check their songs out! I saw them in Luxemburg three weeks ago, they're so friendly with the audience! And great musicians too ;)
Leo's idea behind the tremolo lock was in reaction to complaints from players about the stratocasters tremolo. The two big complaints were 1) if you broke a string, and had it set up as Leo intended (Floating) you were hopelessly out of tune. 2) again, if set up as Leo intended (Floating) when you bend a string, the tremolo would first fight that bend (String tension ve spring tension) and the other 5 string would detune (Go flat) this lessening of tension could let the strings at the nut slip and through the guitar out of tune. Many players to fix this issue on the stratocaster would deck or even block the tremolo (See Eric Clapton). Leo's answer was to let the player easily deck the tremolo so it would only work in the detune mode. But unlike the players who had to over spring and over tension the stratocaster tremolo to deck it, thus making it very hard to use it, this left a nice light smooth tremolo action without the drawback stated above.
One day Jaguar, one day, you will be mine...

When you use the pedals, you mask the tone of the guitar. Go through the different settings clean before you distort the sound.
Man, the Jaguar really made my ears tingle with a couple of sounds! Great sounding guitar!
Les Paul vs. Eclipse (high-end LTD or ESP). That would be interesting.
Excellent, reading about the functions of the guitar while shooting the video! What a pro!!
If only Fender caught on to how much the lefty community want these haha.
Thank you for reviewing these two guitars!!!
Jazzmasters are my personal favorite! I was a little sad to see that they ditched the second time circuit. Always though that was the secret weapon of these guitars.
Matt Wisdom I use the circuit switch all the time on my jag
I love these guys and whoever edits these videos hahaha, editing is great
Came just to hear them say JAG-U-ARE. I love it so much.
I think you'll find that's JAG-YOU-WERE :-)
Lol
Jag u er
wait how do you pronounce it in america?
Jag Wa
i normally don't like how much fender charge for their guitars, but having playing the last 2 years of their jazzmasters and jags, they feel absolutely lovely. Especially the squires and mexicans, for the money, are insane value as far as feel and sound compared to the past years' versions.
Gretsch vs Gibson hollow body?
Also: Gretsch Duo Jet vs Les Paul
Dude video is over 2 years old
Moe Syzlak so what?
The switching on the Jaguar Rob is playing is:
4-way switch:
1. Brige
2. Bridge+Neck (parallel)
3. Neck
4. Bridge+Neck (in series)
The switch at the top reverses the phase on one of the pickups, resulting in additional tones for 4-way positions 2 and 4.
When Lee says Hendrix didn't play anything like hose but he actually played an upside down jazzmaster...
Loved that purple haze lick at 18:35
I really like Lee, but sometimes I feel like he does not let Rob criticize the guitars. (like the saddles in this video)
Deniz M actually Lee is right, the design is way better. I played one at a shop for about an hour and it was great never fell out of the saddle.
Yes you might me right for this specific example. I meant in general. Cheers.
Nah, Lee is right. The mustang style bridge is a lot better than the vintage style Rob is referencing.
Once again I repeat: I did not mean the saddles examples but in general. Gosh! :)
I think it's important to remember these videos aren't really reviews (and they aren't really presented as such) they are demonstrations.
I've been waiting for the Jazzmaster love. No scrubbing to the talking bits.
What happened to the chapman pedals rob?
man i love those little video edits, hilarious
7:26 I'm really craving the jaguar now :o
11:45
Lee: “You can’t go up anymore, only down”
Rob: “ your wife would be happy.”
😂🤣😂
why don't you guys do some blindfolded P90 shooutout? for example epihone casin vs some telecaster?
came for Chappers and Captain, stayed for the amusing editing
Rob, I thought all the videos with Captain Lee were going on be posted on the Andertons channel. Did that gameplan change due to feedback?
I think that is starting in the next lot of videos he shoots.. not sure.
notbadfilms this starts next month
notbadfilms starting in July.
Yep, but the sustain was incredible, man!
Epic melody playing Capt.
0:09 i really thought that riff was gonna be rebel rebel by david bowie
Love these guys reviews, great stuff.
Fender vs G&L?
Their shop is currently in maintenance mode so I cannot check, but I seem to remember Anderton's don't deal G&L
RiNChi・TaiRaa that will never happen lol
Alexander Langer they probably don't and even if they did that's not a video they would ever do too much controversy.
You two play great together.
do a shootout between a regular telecaster and a telecaster thinline!
I've actually been curious about this comparison for a long time!
the jazzmaster pickups are flatter than the jaguar or normal strat single coils, they are so wide as there is less room on the bobbin than on the taller regular single coils
I love the editing in this video
what happens when blues players get offsets? chaos lol OK recommended string gauge for a jaguar and jazzer is 11. these come stock with 9s! the mustang saddles won't pop ...however fender got the width wrong on the pro am ..you need a smaller width .also jaguar necks never maple before . I have the Johnny Marr jag ..best guitar ever when modded right .BTW chappers. .my bloody valentine use jazz masters lol lol
what mods for the Marr jag? or are you saying the way Marr modded the original Jag is what makes them good? i love that guitar
no the stock bridge from fender is too wide so you need a staytrem that's all I meant .plus I put a bone nut in too
Wasn't this video suppose to be in Andertons channel from now on?
Cant believe neither of these lads played a bit of johnny marr whilst holding the jag
Papa Poncho jr. I imagine the reason they didn’t is they are so firmly rooted in blues and metal they probably have no idea who Johnny Marr is. I find Lee and Chappers slightly annoying when they review offsets or Rickenbackers or any guitar not traditionally used for blues or metal because they don’t know what to do with them
I love your demos because you all tend to do exactly everything I like to do with them as far as tone is concerned
A great video idea would be a very short scale guitar, like an Ibanez MiKro, versus a baritone guitar. Like so Rob can see!
Jimi Hendrix did have a Jaguar he often pictured with. He played it live once in a while too.
And great musicians too ;)
beautiful sounding guitars
Jaguar vs. Mustang
