Thanks for the amazing pics. The Typhoon is one heck of a beautiful aircraft. When i used to fly Tornados and flew in the loop (or roundabout as US aircrew call it ) I was always amazed at the number of diehard aircraft enthusiasts perched on the hilltops. Now I am retired and miss the flying but still my heart is up there in the GR4. Again fabulous shots and helpful for anyone wishing to join in. .

What a fantastic video, and a fantastic presenter. This is something I really want to do (only found out about it about an hour ago!!) as a keen photographer, with about a year's experience but have had a lull in inspiration over the last 7 months since my Dad passed away. He got me into photography and I have inherited about 20 cameras. Last June he bought me a Lumix G3 which I love. I will be taking that and maybe a few others, just need a more suitable lens. Wow! I never knew a place like this existed until by chance I stumbled across your videos. A trip to this place is now on my "bucket list" firmly at #2. Thank you for sharing this with the world!
Sounds to me a huge debt of gratitude is due to that farmer. People who can’t respect this gentlemen’s property and fencing could easily destroy this rare privilege. I would be one for setting up a donation bucket for the farmer and send him a letter of appreciation annually. It kind of like asking for hunting privileges here in the US on farmers and rancher properties. The interlopers ruin it for so others.
That's called human nature, unfortunately. We certainly know how to mess things up. Glad you enjoyed the video. There is more info here too... www.shootsmart.co.uk/mach-loop-wales/mach-loop/
Slightly different here in terms of access to land in the UK because of public rights of way. However ,the point you make is an excellent one about respecting the countryside and peoples land and livestock. I was taught always close the gate behind you from a very early age and also domestic (not working) dogs and livestock don't mix.

At least you didn't draw a blank both times. So glad you've had the Mach Loop experience. It's amazing, isn't it! There are mutterings, I hope it falls on deaf ears. Fingers crossed
Love the video Gary. I'm in New Zealand and just saw your British & Irish Lions Rugby Team heading for home tonight. I work at Auckland International Airport. The Mach Loop has become a "Bucket List" event for me. Hopefully all the aircraft aren't electric drones by the time I make it there.
Dear Gary! I just want to say thx for your efforts you put in this channel and your website. I am from Vienna/Austria and visited the Mach-Loop in April 2018 for the first time. I checked all your videos and all the location-insights on the hp and honestly they are totaly true and valid. You made it easy for me to plan my trip and have a great time with Tornados, Hawks and F-15's. Only one adition from my side: I recommend everybody to bring walking-sticks. When the wind blows strong they can help to prevent your belongings (f.e. the folding chair) to be blown away when you ram them deep into the ground. Once again Gary, thank you - you made my day! ;-)
Christoph Sojak - and it’s comments like this that just make all the hard work worthwhile. Thank you 👍🏻 Did you get any good shots by the way? Would love to see them. I’ll also pop your comment about the walking sticks on the site if that’s ok? 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I watch a lot of these Mach Loop vids; it never gets old. In days gone by, was tramping in them thar hills! lol Good stuff...thanks for sharing! Cheers!
Great advice Gary, I live about 5 miles from the loop in Friog on the coast, and get a lot of the jets coming down the Mawddach estuary. We get a great display as they go from sea level up and over the hills. We have a chinook helicopter in the fields at the moment which had to make an emergency landing with hydraulic failure at night.
Gary Gough Hi and thanks for your reply. I am planning to go up to Mach Loop around the 23rd of August. It is my 50th birthday so what better way to spend a few days away. Thanks once again for the excellent tutorial.
I've been going to the loop for 35 years, nobody owns the hills, they are there for everybody's entertainment, although I've met some really a obnoxious people over the years, the hills are for fresh-air and fun. Great video Gary, great edit.
I must visit the UK once again to finally see this. All the fighter wieners told me stories about it but alas, I was first a 135 and B52 crew dog before cross training to SR71. That got me stuck at Beale for a couple years before retraining again as a FE then on to Flight Safety. I love your country...at least in those days and would love to return for a visit. Nice job!
Great video, well done Gary. Brought back many memories of working on the Tornado back in the 70's! I was in the management agency in Munich pushing paper and it is amazing that 44 years after first flight of Tornado it is still doing things like this. Not sure I'll ever get to the 'loop' as it's a long way from Aus so keep the stories coming. Clive Tudge.
I was at Boscombe Down early 80's testing the Sea Harrier Blue Fox radar (or the Blue Circle as we called it), then in Tornado office in London and then Eurofighter Flight Control System in Germany. Happy days. Were you at 1 Sqn?
Quality vid Gary, clear commentary, very well put together. Wife loves the aircraft and wants to live on the Mach loop, which we probably will do soon!
Great Video Gary, and some fantastic Photographs, and as for the negative comments about the information you share as far as i'm concerned everybody has the right to see and Photograph their tax payers ££££s flying past. Keep up the great work
Cheers Graham. The Facebook brigade are fuming that I have divulged their secret, oh dear. To be honest it’s water off a ducks back to me. There are wars and a hell of lot of suffering in this world so why should I be bothered by a few silly children’s comments? Love the Tax Payers analogy - Well said that man.
@tectorama..only because they either stole it, or bought it off people that stole it. I believe that's called handling stolen goods, but as it seems there is little chance of getting our property back, I'll settle for reasonable access to national park land, obviously respecting the rights of landowners, and ensuring livestock are safe, and no damage is done, no litter left.
Great informative video, excellent idea - well done. I personally live too far away to make the trip so seeing your vid gives me a good idea of what it's like, thank you.
What a fantastic video! Thanks for the tips. I've been wanting to go here for a while now but was never sure where or when to go. The settings you gave are super useful for a novice like me so cheers 👍🏻👍🏻
I would kinda classify this as going fishing. You go out for a nice relaxing time with friends and if you catch a fish it is a bonus. Wow it is so beautiful there. Great job on this. I think this is something for my bucket list.
Great video Gary Brings back memories in the 70s I lived in Hereford and we used to have a lot of low flying over the city, one afternoon I actually got bussed by a couple of low level Harriers while returning to the bakery in my large red and white Mothers Pride Van they did a couple of passes from behind then waggled their wings as much to say got ya scared me to death Thanks for a great video Best regards John Brown Sydney Australia
lol sounds like fab memories. I used to be in the RAF and I've actually flown in a Harrier. So lucky More info here of you need it www.shootsmart.co.uk/mach-loop-wales/mach-loop/
Beautiful pictures and fantastic information. I would love to visit there one day. I always dreamed of being a fighter pilot. I have been infatuated with fighter jets since I was a kid and I am now 66 and still the same way. Thank you so much for this video. I am now one of new fans!
Hi gary, great video. Just want to add a commeut taking your litter home with you, its our responsibility to make sure the place is as you arrived, wherever you go. Not sure about others talking about elitism, ive always been led to believe the regulars up on Cad East/West are quite friendly and willing to advise on camera settings without prejudice. I look forward to my first trip up tjere with a camera soon, and thanks for the video..good stuff!
I will definitely mention the litter thing on my web page. Thanks for reminding me. All the people iv'e met at the Loop have been brilliant. Iv'e met some great guys. The regulars will offer great advice too. If you do want to go to Cad East, just be aware that if you're not there before 7am the car parking places will be gone.
Gary,Your recommendations are spot on. I have been shooting action photography for over 40 years (retired now, phew) and I accept your choices and suggestions perfectly. I am so happy to see you taking time to give people ideas and suggestions to help them make great photos of an iconic and never boring subject. May you always have perfectly framed jets and tastefully blurred backgrounds, and may your camera always take beautiful images.many thanks Joe USA.
Thank you very much for taking the time to help us first timers to Mach Loop, really helpful and with any luck I’ll be there this summer with my son and also have some luck with some action.
Thank you for this video & tips.Ive been nagging my mate for ages to take me on a trip there on his Motorbike & a few others we work with want to go but the hike up has put them off.Its a fair drive from S.Wales but with this tip we will now be making the trip,it'll be a dream come true for me as into aircraft massively & this will be a great help on our trip.I hope all those rubbish comments you get are just that are rubbish to you,all I have got is my iPhone but just seeing these aircraft is going to be my thrill,Thank you again for this!!

Thumbs up ere' Gary, good information and plenty of advice on capturing these shots. Here in Spain we are in the flight path of the Spanish Airforce but they fly too high even thou we have mountains!!!! Amazing photographs! Many thanks for sharing :)
Thank you Gary, clearly a true gentleman! I spent a day up Cad West last year and was buzzing for days and I managed to capture a few incredible pictures. I am aiming to go again in the next few days, and try my new lens. Now educated through your fantastic guide I'm going to try Cad East.
Since I will never be able to come to the Cad because I would not be able to get up the hill in my power chair. But with your pictures and videos and others that do go there and post their pictures and videos I get to experience it has if I was there. Please continue posting your videos so that I can experience something that I can't experience in person but threw yours and others I get to have that experience. Thank you so much.
Sorry about that Dave but thanks for watching my video. I'm glad you get to experience the Loop to a certain degree. Cheers - More info here f you need it... www.shootsmart.co.uk/mach-loop-wales/mach-loop/

Hi Gary, great video. I was given a link to this today at RAF Coningsby by a lady from Coventry who visits the loop on a regular basis. Its brilliant. Thank you for sharing it. I can't wait for September now!!
Another quality video, thanks for taking the time to make it, and share it. My Colombian partner has now made it our upmost priority to make sure that we visit ASAP. Well done and thanks again.
Thanks for your generous work, Gary. Greetings from Colorado. I love to put the Mach Loop on a big TV and surprise friends. I could easily see myself going to visit on one of my trips to the UK/ Wales. So cool...xo
An excellent, well put together video with good advice and delivered with enthusiasm. I'm not on Facebook or Twitter and the like so I don't know what people are getting upset about, could someone enlighten me? It's not as if LFA7 is a secret, the RAF have been using it for donkeys years and people have been going there for years to photograph the aircraft, some people even used something called 35mm film! ( look it up on Wikipedia kids.) I myself have only been going for a couple of years and so far have managed a total of about 15 days. I've not met any really grumpy guys, or gals, most people have been great to chat to and some really go out of their way to help. On a recent trip a complete stranger loaned me a 32 Gb card as I forgot my spare. We are all there for the same great hobby in beautiful surroundings. So lets not get worked up about nothing. I saw nothing in the video to get upset about, the Loop has been 'advertised' before, not least on social media, and it will be again. The only thing I get upset about is when people don't respect the countryside, but that upsets me on all my travels anywhere. So if you've never been it's a great way to spend a day. But be warned, in my 15 or so days I've sat there all day and seen nothing on a couple of occasions. Nice views though and good banter. And once again, great video Gary.
Hi David, Very kind comments and thank you for taking time out write it. I'm flattered to think that some Facebook people presume my video will bring thousands of new photographers to the Loop. lol Like you said, I haven't divulged any new secrets for heavens sake. I found out about the car park at the back of Cad East myself from a Hotel Website. go figure! Every time I go there I only meet nice people too. Going there is more about the crack. If you see some aircraft then it's a Brucy Bonus and we all know :)
As an Australian, and one that won't get back to the UK for another 10 years or so, I find this video a wonderful insight into what you guys/gals go through to get these images. I can't believe there are people out there bagging the content of this video, how selfish can people get. I couldn't imagine telling people they can't take photos of our great sunsets downunder. Great vid and photo's Gary.
OZZIEMV - They're just assuming my video will attract more people to the Loop and because of this the military will stop flying, load of old codswallop. I could just remove the comments but I prefer to leave them in there so people like yourself can see how petty and pathetic some people can be. It's caused a massive uproar on a FB page that was created purely to offer advice on all things Mach Loop related. The Admin who liked my video btw and thought it was perfect for his FB group had to threaten to kick people for slagging me off. It was removed in the end to keep the peace. They also assume giving my video a thumbs down will get the video deleted or it will make it self combust lol Strange thing is I've only ever met nice people there. It's all water off a ducks back to me :)
I would have thought having more people there would attract more "flyboys" to show off ;) Seriously though, its good to see there are nice people there, I wouldn't want to be looking over my shoulder in case someone was going to push me over the edge. Cheers Stirling
Awesome video! I loved it. Thinking of making the trip from the US. Grew up in the UK but haven't been back for a long while. Dad used to fly the Mach Loop. Would love to come back and get some pics.
Welcome to photography class- today we will be taking pictures of birds... they are metal birds. Thanks for a great vid- this is on my bucket list now :)
Thank you Gary for that fabulous video. Your infectious enthusiasm was fabulous. I wanted to find out how to get there to take my Grandsons to have a look; so your video is perfect. I have visited the loop many times before, in F4s and F3s, and the last time was in a TMk1a in 2001, but I never had the presence of mind to take a photograph. Although I always tried to wave! Your video of the GR4, despite it being a bomber, genuinely put a lump in my throat. Thank you. David.
Oh I'm so glad my video had that effect. Thank you kindly for saying too. There is more info here too... www.shootsmart.co.uk/mach-loop-wales/mach-loop/
Brilliant flying, lovely aircraft and captured by stunningly skilled photography all in an outstanding area. I was glued to this video and had to share it with my wife who asked at the end: " Are there anymore pictures of the little white dog?" (8.06) You pleased everybody. Thanks.
So glad you enjoyed the video. The little white Dog was my best friend and has been for the last 15 and a half years. Sadly we lost him just before Christmas. I'm so glad he was included in so many of my videos. Welling up typing this :( More info here if you need it... www.shootsmart.co.uk/mach-loop-wales/mach-loop/
This is amazing! If this was in the US, it would be located inside military airspace, nobody would be allowed to come within miles, there would be signs reading something like, "trespassers will be shot, survivors will be shot again!", and there would be CCTV security cameras blanketing every square inch for miles!!! I've checked, visit the new World Trade Center in Manhattan, and skydiving off my bucket list, it seems now that after the Grand Canyon, I'm gonna have to go to Europe! I'll have to decide if I wanna do that before or after Alaska...
Sounds like it's a huge bucket list, good on you. It's a very unique place to visit. I'm sure it'll just take one piece of Terrorist activity to render it private with signs up similar to yours. Well, maybe not quite worded the same... Our signs will just say "please stay away" We're a little softer in the UK ;) Cheers for taking the time to watch and comment. Means a lot!
Thanks a bunch Roger. re the car parking... Just be aware that the car park will be full at around 7am. Just get there early, chill and have a coffee that's the secret :)
barrie jones - Hi Barrie, I've already been banned from a couple of FaceBook groups because of the content of my videos. I'm just being honest in every part of this video. My webpage will encourage people to stay at the Farmers official digs, so I'm offering a little back too :)
You'd think some of these guys own the hill... you have just as much right to be up there as them. Hate the 'I know more about all this than you' attitude up there from the odd person. Shame these planes can't take these people out as they go through.

It blows my mind that people would actually think it's a good idea to fly a drone in the Mach Loop. Such selfishness.

@@GaryGough did cad east caught the typhoon on the monday #typhoongate went back today 25th to cad west and nothing came through i hope the flight ban rumours are false
Hopefully all the aircraft aren't electric drones by the time I make it there.
lol they'll all be un-manned too :(
If you can get across the pond you'll love it :)
Thank you 👍🏻
Did you get any good shots by the way? Would love to see them. I’ll also pop your comment about the walking sticks on the site if that’s ok? 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Gary Gough I would be glad if you juse my tip on your hp, sure!
Hello from the states, you have some Gorgeous Photos. Loved the countryside as well as the aircraft . looking forward to more.
SS SIGSAUER226 - glad you enjoyed the video. The full guide is here if you need more info... www.shootsmart.co.uk/mach-loop-wales/mach-loop/
Fantastic and informative we struggled up the muddy hill on foot, wish I’d seen this first - now we’ll go again as we loved it!
I watch a lot of these Mach Loop vids; it never gets old. In days gone by, was tramping in them thar hills! lol
Good stuff...thanks for sharing! Cheers!
Hurrah! The joy that you put on the pod is contagious !. Many thanks
Hope to meet you there in a near future

Great video - thank you for posting this. I will probably never get to the Mach Loop, but thanks to your video I was almost there.
Very kind of you to say Mark. Thank you
I live in America. This is so beatiful. And I love aviation. Been watching a lot of mach loop vids lately.
Cheers 👍👍
Thank you for this! It's a dream of mine to visit. This makes it one step closer for me.
Cheers Stephen. Hope you make it.
Very nice to share your passion for this awesome spot. A french airline pilot , plane crazy for almost ever
Great video Gary, very informative. Love seeing all your vids and pictures.
I just learned soo much on accident.. it is insane how good you are at explaining photography.
Very kind, thank you
What a thoroughly enjoyable tutorial. I'm a Mach Loop Virgin, but this has given me everything I need to know about the whole experience.
Phil Thy Rich - plan a trip there, you'll love it.
Great video Gary,great edit.
Simon whittaker - never a truer word spoken. Cheers Simon
What an absolutely brilliant video, never seen yours before but so informative and interesting, well done!
Many thanks! BTW I have another video coming out tonight @ 17:00 (UK) which covers 10 things you need to know before going.
Great guide. Loved the enthusiasm. Thanks for the tips!
I am from Brazil. Probably I"ll never go to Mach Loop, but, as a fan of videos from such formidable place, thank you for the explanations.
You’re welcome. Cheers 👍👍

Wow! You got some beautiful shots of that Typhoon. Great job!
So glad you enjoyed the video. There is more info here too... www.shootsmart.co.uk/mach-loop-wales/mach-loop/
Nice job!
I hope you revisit us, it's a wonderful place. 👍👍
Glad you liked it Clive. I was in the RAF in the eighties and loved it then too. Although for me it was more heli's and the incredible Harrier. Cheers
I was at Boscombe Down early 80's testing the Sea Harrier Blue Fox radar (or the Blue Circle as we called it), then in Tornado office in London and then Eurofighter Flight Control System in Germany. Happy days. Were you at 1 Sqn?
Very well done. Your thoroughness and thoughtfulness is appreciated.
Cheers
Quality vid Gary, clear commentary, very well put together. Wife loves the aircraft and wants to live on the Mach loop, which we probably will do soon!
lightespeed - an understanding wife, she's a keeper ;)
Great video Gary, with good and responsible advice. Fantastic shot looking down into the Tornado's cabin - brilliant!
Thank you Darrel
Great Video Gary, and some fantastic Photographs, and as for the negative comments about the information you share as far as i'm concerned everybody has the right to see and Photograph their tax payers ££££s flying past. Keep up the great work
Cheers Graham. The Facebook brigade are fuming that I have divulged their secret, oh dear. To be honest it’s water off a ducks back to me. There are wars and a hell of lot of suffering in this world so why should I be bothered by a few silly children’s comments? Love the Tax Payers analogy - Well said that man.
Just wanted to confirm, all public land, right? They can go f themselves...
Graeme Cave great comment, well said 👍🏼
All land belongs to someone.
Gary Gough you a fantastic plane spotting photo shooter I have ever seen i throughly enjoy watching them very much indeed
Cheers 👍
Excellent video thank you Gary. Well presented, well produced, nice, clear, simple.....does what it says on the tin!
Just how it was intended. Thanks for taking time out to comment too, very kind

Great video Gary Brings back memories in the 70s I lived in Hereford and we used to have a lot of low flying over the city, one afternoon I actually got bussed by a couple of low level Harriers while returning to the bakery in my large red and white Mothers Pride Van they did a couple of passes from behind then waggled their wings as much to say got ya scared me to death
Thanks for a great video

Great video Garry. This is now a bucket list place to go before I get too old!

Thanks for your generous work, Gary. Greetings from Colorado. I love to put the Mach Loop on a big TV and surprise friends. I could easily see myself going to visit on one of my trips to the UK/ Wales. So cool...xo
Hi Mark, hope my video makes your big TV - Greetings from a cold wet UK ;)
An excellent, well put together video with good advice and delivered with enthusiasm. I'm not on Facebook or Twitter and the like so I don't know what people are getting upset about, could someone
enlighten me? It's not as if LFA7 is a secret, the RAF have been using it for donkeys years and people have been going there for years to photograph the aircraft, some people even used something called
35mm film! ( look it up on Wikipedia kids.) I myself have only been going for a couple of years and so far have managed a total of about 15 days. I've not met any really grumpy guys, or gals, most people
have been great to chat to and some really go out of their way to help. On a recent trip a complete stranger loaned me a 32 Gb card as I forgot my spare. We are all there for the same great hobby in
beautiful surroundings.
@@GaryGough Generally in cases like this negative comments get far more attention than they deserve. Usually they are done by a malcontent.
great video Gary hope to get down there soon. Thanks Mike
Cheers Mike
They also assume giving my video a thumbs down will get the video deleted or it will make it self combust lol
Strange thing is I've only ever met nice people there.
It's all water off a ducks back to me :)
I would have thought having more people there would attract more "flyboys" to show off ;)
Seriously though, its good to see there are nice people there, I wouldn't want to be looking over my shoulder in case someone was going to push me over the edge.
Cheers

Awesome video! I loved it. Thinking of making the trip from the US. Grew up in the UK but haven't been back for a long while. Dad used to fly the Mach Loop. Would love to come back and get some pics.

Thank you. David.

Welling up typing this :(

Our signs will just say "please stay away" We're a little softer in the UK ;)
Cheers for taking the time to watch and comment. Means a lot!
certaindiaster59 oh. Come on. Not true. We are not all like that. Chill bro. Life’s good.

Thanks a bunch Roger. re the car parking... Just be aware that the car park will be full at around 7am. Just get there early, chill and have a coffee that's the secret :)
oh dear think that you stirred up a hornets nest here lol. people will get upset with this openness. but good on ya Gary.

Gary Gough how childish some people are what do they gain ?, I was on joking too. I passed comments on your first loop video
You'd think some of these guys own the hill... you have just as much right to be up there as them. Hate the 'I know more about all this than you' attitude up there from the odd person. Shame these planes can't take these people out as they go through.
Steve Clark isn't that a bit over the top ?especially with the austerity measures in place ? oops political 😀
I'd say it's not hard enough!
Great video Gary , and fantastic pictures . This needed to be done.
