Caught Flathead in Tassie and Victoria but have yet to nail one here in South Australia. I rarely anchor and much rather drift and explore. I catch plenty of Snapper, Squid, Red Mullet etc on the drift so why not. Enjoying your Videos mate. cheers
your content is amazing. you really know your stuff. would you do an Australian bass video at a place called blue rock lake. there is stocked bass, refin and trout there. great spot for boats, I personally use a kayak. rock a spinner bait next to some logs or the bank and you are almost guaranteed a bass!!
Nice vid mate, I pretty much always drift on the bay unless targeting reds or ting. It's a huge bay with a slow drift so I reckon it's better to get on the move and find the fish.
Yah, always been my mindset as well. So much ground to explorer. That fact that there is so little structure in the bay makes it a strange place to fish too, the fish could literally be anywhere.
@@marxfishing Yep agree, I discovered recently that dredging fires up the big flatties too. Find where the murky water meets the clean water and fish the clean side of the edge with any plastic you want. The big flathead were piled up on that edge like I've never seen before.
AAA+ ,,,, hey sorry i missed this video thought id hit the bell but had not,,,,,,,,, great info and spot on,,,,,, also fantatsic footage and editing ...............
Are you fishing between Clifton springs and Portarlington? You can catch a ton of whiting and snapper around the Mussel farms..I see the You-yangs, Avalon in the background. Cheers from Brisbane..
Thanks for the video on Clifton Springs. Spent a lot of time fishing and sailing those waters in my teens back in the early 90's in my mirror dingy.. Good to see nothing has changed. Use to spear fish from the old Fairy dell jetty which that road has now collaped many years ago.. Good production..Always drifted to catch flathead as well.
VIMIDIA CORP I have spear fished that area as well. Yeah, it’s pretty nice down there. Only thing that has changed is the boat ramp, 5 lanes now, it’s excellent.
Hi mate just bought a boat can U give us the area where we can catch big flathead maybe some Lattitude and longitude not much success new to the area love my flathead Chrissy cheers
J Timms, I generally start in 6-8 meters, but they do seem to move around. I find in 10 meters plus I get lots of small fish, and I usually don’t fish in 2 meters and under.
ali hawli, I agree they will eat bait, but I have compared bait to soft plastics and the plastics always out performed the bait. I even went so far as to put soft plastics on 2 rods, and bait on the other two, with the exact same sinker, hooks, and all. The plastics still caught more fish, just sitting in the rod holder. So I agree you can catch plenty of them on bait, and I have too, but in a side by side comparison, the plastics caught more fish. I did this experiment about 10 times, always the same result.
So many people have told me how good flathead is for catching flathead. I have just never had much luck with it. A big benefit of fishing with plastics is that you cover ground, so you put the lure in front of a lot more fish, but you could do the same thing with bait I guess.
@@marxfishing Mate you just drift around with a heavy handline, a pretty hefty sinker and you will smash them. They go nuts for it. In shallower water, like river inlets, lakes etc, a zerek shrimp lure slays them too
This is ridiculously good production and knowledge
Thanks! A heap of work goes into these videos, it’s nice to hear people appreciate them.
This is the best video on flathead in port Phillip I've seen. Awesome real useful info, thanks marky mark and the funky fish bunch! ;)
Thanks for your kind words! I’m glad you found it useful.
MarX Fishing your channel will grow, your a natural at this. Take care.

Thanks so much for your kids words. I will check out Blue Rock, sounds like a good spot!
@@marxfishing thank you!! thanks for replying. I would love to meet you one day. you do your research!!
What areas do you normally fish?
Man those are some giant lizard fish, holly crap lol. Great and awesome video brother
They are often called “lizards” by the locals. Thanks for watching.

jordythebassist, wow, great tip. I have always wondered how the dredging effected the fish. Thanks.

Yes, shot this drifting the spoil grounds, just out of Clifton Springs. Heaps of flathead down there.

Hi, mate love all your vids. May you please do a vid on your boat?
notsolucky, thanks bud. I have had a number of requests for that, thanks for reminding me. I’ll try to do one soon.
Awesome video mark.
Awesome Video! 👍👍👍
Thanks bud!
Great video mark 👌🏻
Thanks mate! Nice to hear.
Awesome vid mark
Thanks bud!
Excellent. Thank you!
Another great video. I find that blue bait always out fishes lures, when targeting Flathead
Thanks mate! We may need to do a blue bait vs plastics fishing challenge!
MarX Fishing that would be fun to watch!
Great video can u please do another flathead video
Thanks! Check my channel, there are more flathead videos.
good job mate!
Great vid mate, Do you have a preferred depth for south PPB flattys?

Make a how to pinkies please
Good idea, I will do that.
@@marxfishing Thanks man when can we expect it? Do it landbased please :))
@@TouringUpNorth Pinkies are easy mate, they smash soft plastics. Same technique, hop it off the bottom and pause. They usually take it on the drops.
@@Benno828282 worked it out in the space of a year 😂 thanks anyway mate!
False I bag out on flathead with bait they’ll eat anything and everything sometimes without setting to the bottom and they’ll be on

Four fish.
Sorry, gotta call bs on soft plastic vs bait. Flathead like nothing better than a chunk of flathead on a hook.
