  • In this episode Kosta heads out in winter to target squid using Shimano products. Winter is one of the tougher times to target squid so he goes into detail and covers everything from finding a good spot, how to approach it once you're there, gear used and various methods. You can apply this approach to any waters in Australia where squid reside and you'll find success.

Re Comment on high speed jig and need for a high ratio reel, not sure why, given the sink speed is generally slower than the retrieve rate. If you are jigging up why would you ever need a high speed reel when the drop back down is slow. The strike is not likely at the top of the jig, please enlighten me.

Unsure exactly what you mean about the jig sinking. However, a high speed reel facilitates the rod action seen at 11:24 as you can recover the slack before the next rod movement. You don't let the jig sink. With slower reels it's much harder to coordinate this action.

Hi. What brand / length of squid net do you use specifically for catching squid?

About 1500 long is fine, I like rubber nets. Black Magic do a great net.

@@HookedUpTV thank you. Is it important to have very fine mesh as the netting instead of the larger hole size in the netting?
