Please report the endless spam - we remove all we see. Let us know what you think about this ASUS keyboard - worth the money, buying one ? What do you own now?
Armory crate has a special place in my heart. It destroyed my OS 3 years ago and I had to reinstall Windows to get it all working again. Its a special piece of software
They should all do like Wooting, no software required but all settings in a web UI running in the device. This way you have no monstrous bloatware like Armory Crate and you can access all the settings from any OS not just windows. The same can be said for fan and RGB controllers.
I have this keyboard, and I just wanted to report that I have had no issues, Mats findings mirror my own, it is well made, and I just would like some key option choices when buying, come on ASUS
Its a good design and some great hardware ideas. Like the strip at the back, can see me actually using that - but it looks like you need armory crate to get the most out of this keyboard
I think people need to give ASUS some credit they have sorted out armory crate a lot in the last year and they make the gear work without it now to a certain extent, some people are hard to please
I personally agree - things are heading in the right direction. Give it a year and we'll hopefully have the software that should of accompanied their products for years. Mat
I dont know the fuss around Armory crate it is not bad at all really, never had any issues, just can be slow sometimes with my mouse and keyboard to change stuff
I don't mind the size either. 75% is my personal favourite, but this board feels good. I tend to swap between a smaller board for gaming and a full size for work stuff to be fair. Mat
i quite like that strip at the back, never seen that done before. looks like its crammed full of tech. Not sure about the switches though. I like clicky keys, and yes I know they arent the best for gaming, so they say.
Really good to see you can use this without asus armory crate - its a resource hog, but interesting to see your findings that its getting a bit better. I just hate installing software and DLLS I dont need
speed tap sounds like it might make my lame gaming skills a bit better online - is it banned with all games or just a few? how do they measure it to ban people?
It does improve peeking skills without doubt. As far am I'm aware, it's only been banned in Counter-Strike 2. As for detection, I'm not sure exactly, but I'd guess the game monitors input commands and can tell when null binds are active/being used Mat
Has anyone used armory crate this year? has it improved? its why I never buy hardware from ASUS, gigabyte or MSI, between them they cant code any software worth its salt
I still use the king of keyboards the Logitech G19 since 2009. I have a life I could care less about click sound switching and removable caps. Give me a keyboard w/ screen with a clock, videos, pc monitor, timer, and more built in to the keyboard and I'll replace this.
There are better keyboards with swappable HE switches, web based software and the same or even better functionalities. However, nice try but at that price there are Wooting keyboads or even full metal body keyboards.
It's a nice keeb, but I'm not really digging the "REPUBLIC OF GAMERS" text across the top. Ruins the entire aesthetic. I'd probably get some vinyl wrap and cover that entire bezel. I'd also replace all of the keycaps, if possible.
@@KitGuruTech I don't mind branding, as long as it's not stupid or pretentious. And Republic of Gamers leans toward both. Plus, the font looks terrible, like they're overcompensating or trying too hard to impress. A lot of people want things to be just a touch more understated and clean.
The Armoury Crate software is a cancer that ASUS has refused to cure for years. Motherboard Software programs have been awful for years, but ASUS takes the cake alone. My ASUS ROG Harpe Ace gaming mouse was a massive disappointment because of how bad the software is. Even the lighter version that recently came out is dog poop. It's a shame that they have yet to listen to their customers and completely overhaul it.
There are 3 things that I want from a modern keyboard: - non-detachable cable - small display where I can check CPU and GPU temperatures - mechanical optical switches
@@KitGuruTech had one a few years ago (mechanical), heard they improved a lot since, haven't tried their HE tho, i am pretty happy with my 60HE, I don't see any reason to try something else until he stops functioning, chances are pretty high that I take another wooting, would have considered the Iqunix, but they only do ANSI layout, and it bother me lol.

Good review, very fair - like always mat, thanks
Thanks 👍
Thanks Mat, good review appreciate the effort put into it
Looks good
Armory crate has a special place in my heart. It destroyed my OS 3 years ago and I had to reinstall Windows to get it all working again. Its a special piece of software
😧
Armory crate has given me PTSD, havent tried it in years, I think another youtuber said it was getting better - certainly took many years!
They seem to have damped and lubbed them well for a change
Great review I like asus keyboards. expensive but well made
Good keyboard and great review thank you - I. think I will pass on this one as I just bought a new keyboard but thanks
Glad I could help!
That case thing doesnt look like it fits tbh, are you sure you can use it like that?
The RGB looks quite good. The lightbar is cool
They should all do like Wooting, no software required but all settings in a web UI running in the device. This way you have no monstrous bloatware like Armory Crate and you can access all the settings from any OS not just windows. The same can be said for fan and RGB controllers.
Yeah except the reason they ever did that is because they wanna steal ur data lol
I like ASUS keyboards, just never been a fan of their software
Keyboard looks really good to me, but expensive as usual
Sounds like a gaming keyboard to me, i like the actuations changes though
Quite a lot of thought in parts of this, the price I can live with, - the keys sound good
I have this keyboard, and I just wanted to report that I have had no issues, Mats findings mirror my own, it is well made, and I just would like some key option choices when buying, come on ASUS
Thanks for sharing your thoughts
That price point is hard to stomach to be honest, so expensive
Its a good design and some great hardware ideas. Like the strip at the back, can see me actually using that - but it looks like you need armory crate to get the most out of this keyboard
This is a brilliant keyboard I bought one last week - fair review, its not perfect but i love it
Enjoy it
Thanks for the review and the honesty - I agree, its a software package not a lot of us rate very highly. thanks mat
Thanks for watching!
I love this keyboard, I want it before the end of the year, its just so damn expensive, hope it hits a black friday sale !
Glad to see a review of this, was wondering if it was any good or not.
We like it- surprisingly good
Seems they didnt go fully into the RGB side of things, not that I am bothered. just ordered this thanks
Enjoy! :)
Mat
Keys sound good - nice and crunchy but not hollow
we like the keys too - more options would be welcomed however
Good review, but I think there are better brands to spend this money on like keychron, they are built like tanks and look and feel so much better
Fair enough!
Good keyboard, i want this for christmas, might treat myself
Little early xmas treat :)
Thanks Mat, well played - keys sound well lubbed to me. I love a good well lubbed key.
Thanks mate, glad you enjoyed :)
Mat
Mat is happy, they lubed him up !
Thanks mat, good review !
Thanks!
wow they threw the kitchen sink at this one
They have lubbed them? I know you have called out a lot of companies in the past for that, you seemed to really like this board - good to see.
Yeah, the switches are stabs are both factory lubed
Some good features, I have never installed armory crate is it really as bad as people make out?
Yeah - It's very resource intensive and can cause all sorts of issues for some people.
Thanks for the review
You're welcome! :)
Havent bought an ASUS product in years - are you ever going to look at their motherboards Leo?
Yes we will.
Seems pretty good, thought it was going to be crap, but I know you are pretty hard on keyboards.
I was pretty impressed - It's a nice board for sure :)
Mat

This looks cool
I dont know the fuss around Armory crate it is not bad at all really, never had any issues, just can be slow sometimes with my mouse and keyboard to change stuff
Needs more key switch options,. only one available
Its a good looking keyboard, but had you it fitting into the base ok ? looks like its not quite in there 01:42
It does fit in there fine - I maybe didn’t sit it in there completely flush. Good spot 👍🏻
@@KitGuruTech Ah ok, it seems to be a good idea mind you, I like the concept.
I like the sizing, but I know some people hate losing the arrow keys on the right side, I dont mind, and never use a numpad either
I don't mind the size either. 75% is my personal favourite, but this board feels good. I tend to swap between a smaller board for gaming and a full size for work stuff to be fair.
Mat
It has arrow keys tho?
if it works with Signal RGB app then we can even ditch Armoury Gear app too ?
Love it ❤
i quite like that strip at the back, never seen that done before. looks like its crammed full of tech. Not sure about the switches though. I like clicky keys, and yes I know they arent the best for gaming, so they say.
I’m sure someone will come out with clicky Hall effect switches at some point (if not already available)
@@KitGuruTech Yeah id like that too. I am not a fan of the spongy ones- although in fairness these do sound pretty decent overall.
@@KitGuruTech like TTC Magnetos?
You buy this f or the software IMO, not much point not installing it
Can we get Leo to review some mice and keyboards? that would be fun.
No. It wouldn’t be 😉
Really good to see you can use this without asus armory crate - its a resource hog, but interesting to see your findings that its getting a bit better. I just hate installing software and DLLS I dont need
The new standalone software is a big positive with this keyboard
The keycaps look pretty mid level to me
Better keyboards on the market around 200 bucks than this
Like what
ASUS keyboards are generally good, and it is good to see you dont have to install software to actually use this one
speed tap sounds like it might make my lame gaming skills a bit better online - is it banned with all games or just a few? how do they measure it to ban people?

Software seems unnecessaryily complex
If it were wireless I'd probably get it. too bad.
The one that released before this one was wireless, but it only came in white and not black.
compare this asus HFX with the nuphy air60 HE from your background under the white mic :)) bet asus not worth 100euro more
Well spotted! ;) NuPhy review coming soon :)
Armory crate sucks, glad you can use this without it installed - none of the big mobo companies make good software, MSI Dragon Center sucks too
No per key lighting is a deal breaker for me. I'm not installing armory create.
Will never buy ASUS again too many horror stories getting support
Wow I am so out of touch, first I have heard about jiggle peeking !
OMG thats a loud keyboard while typing. Absolute deal breaker for me.

That speed trap looks like a cool way to get banned online !
Possible !
Meh
Nothing wrong with armory crate
It's a nice keeb, but I'm not really digging the "REPUBLIC OF GAMERS" text across the top. Ruins the entire aesthetic. I'd probably get some vinyl wrap and cover that entire bezel. I'd also replace all of the keycaps, if possible.
Interesting. We notice a lot of people lately don’t like branding in products. Appreciate you sharing your thoughts. 👍🏻

£180. ouch. my last CPU cost around that price second hand
Fair enough!
Does anyone here actually use armory crate? I never install software with my mice or keyboards - I am happy letting Windows control them for what I do
they just need to make it Via compatible and it'll sell
We can dream
I miss Leo, where is he? this guy looks very bored doing this job - wish I had his job
He is still here working on motherboards 👍🏻

Has it not improved at all ?
@@theonlyredspecialabsolutely not, I reformatted both PCS with Asus motherboards and I refuse to install it.
@@doubleoog8181 that’s a shame. Some people seem to say it’s gotten better 😞
Armory Crate gear? more bloatware
There are 3 things that I want from a modern keyboard:
- non-detachable cable

- mechanical optical switches
Small display? thats unusual, only logitech do that I think
A small display? go for it man ! Corsair will make one for £400
Are ASUS listening? surely not !
Bloatware
Republic of Garbage
ouch
It's 400 bucks lol
that speed tapping should be banned online, fine for single player, but man its ruining games now
It's a controversial feature for sure
Mat
womp womp
Meh, no thanks
Still one overpriced half decent keyboard, rather buy wooting it's cheaper better and the software is web based.
You ever tried keychron ?

RGB so tacky
It’s on everything really

A cherry no-rgb keyboard for me it'll be.

Sorry you think that

Nice review, good keyboard - too expensive however
