This track is unbelievable even 25 years later. It has to be the best mix track of all time. The part with the conga/timbale break followed by the woman singing in some kind of Middle Eastern chant is unbelievable and pure genius. So many great superimpositions of unrelated material make this a classic.
Since I was a kid I have sang the Woman's part loud and proud , while at the same time, pretty sure, I was f'ing it up royally but having fun at the same time. one of the best drops follows that woman's sensual voice(4:31) and it is a badass one. Thanks for your ancient comment that I totally agree with.
Why do people think music expires? I'm glad you enjoy the memory, but I'm irritated at the thought that no one would get on the floor for this now. Where I live, I'd be screwed if I played 21st Century music, which is its own horror, but why do you think this song expired? In some places, anything newer than this would be alien and totally hated.
Also, small-town Minnesota is the real Portlandia, if you want to return to the late '80s, early '90s. I'm out, because I'm not THAT old-fashioned, but I'll literally give you my apartment, if you want it.
