  • Flat clear coat. How? When? Where? in? Out? Before? After? Experiment. Tamiya. PS-55 we know it works on the outside. But Tamiya says otherwise!? It works but helps flake shine! Conclusion: don’t use metallic paint unless you want lots of flake? It turns out beautiful!
    The colour I used is Tamiya PS-18.

    For every one saying it goes on outside? You never raced and you have tamiyas just to put them on shelves? You never ever spray it on the outside of the body...ever.. for the cars that are meant for driving and racing. Full contact will chip it off.
    Great video, thnx! I like the effect of the more metallic colour.

    I’ve always used it on the outside, definitely works well. Have never tried it on the inside. You should do an inside vs outside

    PS-55 is for outside of the body,
    It can also be used to stick TS paints on the inside of a polycarbonate body.

    • @rcwreck-creation

      It’s for both inside & outside, just like I said by the end of the video.

    I don't know about the instructions on the can, but I can definitely tell you, that Tamiya writes in the instructions, that this flat clear 55 is to be applied to the outside (for example in the manual for the closed MX-5 body, just checked it) -- after removing the protective foiling. The gloss of the paint mainly comes from the polycarbonate itself and you need to alter the surface to make it appear flat. That is also the reason there isn't a gloss and matte variant for the PS paints.

    • @rcwreck-creation
      @rcwreck-creation  4 місяці тому

      Exactly why I did this video. Regardless of what instructions you follow. It will make a difference either way.
      More recently, I used this product again on the inside of the lexan before colour, and it did exactly what I was hoping by making certain masked off patterns next to impossible to see in shade but pop out in the sunshine.
      So just like my conclusion in this video. I'd say depending on what effect your looking for, it's very useful for both inside (before colour), & outside (after paint). Those that still wanna argue with results are always gonna argue anyway.
      Thanks for the input on what anyone can read, I like testing products for myself, rather than just read what the manufacturer suggests sometimes. It's the only way to get actual results instead of just opinions. Know what I'm sayin?

      I use it as well one coat thin before I use my airbrush createx colors. To give it a better Bond besides the 4030 that I need to use. If you use too much in the inside you can get a sort of flat color but it won't be very flat. If you want the Matt look paint your body in the inside then the flat on the outside.

    It 100% gets used on the outside of the body. I believe the on can instructions to be an oversight due to most products being used on the inside as primary color. Of hundreds of colors and products, they are not going to spend thousands of dollars to change one word on the labeling. Hope this is helpful. Good test but no your recommendations are NOT as intended. Do more research/tests and try it outside. You CAN use it inside but with very little effect; just as you have proven in your video.

      Thanks for the opinion. My results were quite significant actually. They may not have shown well on camera but I was quite happy with them. I & a close friend of mine used it on another project by spraying on the inside first, & it turned out amazing! So I’m not going to argue with you, but my results do contradict what you said. Thanks for watching.

      @@rcwreck-creation agreed not worth arguing about, but what you are doing is "dulling" the actual paint on the inside. You have modified the color only. You have not "dulled" or flattened the gloss of the poly body itself lol.

    • @rcwreck-creation
      @rcwreck-creation  3 роки тому

      Absolutely correct! I totally hear what you’re saying. The effect of the flat clear is definitely more prominent over top the glossy body. The result I got on the inside was a “half-flat” I like to call it.
      The coolest part (of the project I videoed for my channel) is, cause I used a high metallic colour. The flat clear flat’d out the hue of the colour, but allows the metallics to shine through! So in direct sun the colour with flat over it looks almost like a flake? The part that got no flat-clear was a dual stripe I taped off when spraying it. So It’s a subtle difference you really need to look for at one angle, & @ another angle the stripe pops! It’s really nice actually. I’ll send ya a link to the video if you’re interested?

    How's best to spray safely with this paint I have just got the tamiya paint and a 3M face mask with the padded respirators on either side is that safe enough from the vapour thinking of spraying outside on a non windy day or half in a garage half exposed to air? Worried don't want to get ill

    • @rcwreck-creation
      @rcwreck-creation  3 роки тому +2

      I feel fine spraying outside. Maybe use the mask if you’re in the garage, but wherever you spray? Just make sure it’s well ventilated. For example: in the garage keep the door wide open. Overspray gets everywhere so don’t spray close by to anything you don’t want dusted with paint.

      But economically, you only need to use it on the outside. Of course there's my "Rule #1" of RC...
