Excellent vide, Rob. The connection you have with these records jumps out with very obvious passion, and that's a joy to watch. Loved seeing The Smiths and Prefab Sprout especially.

Great video Rob! Makes me realize what my life would have been like, if my family hadn’t left Warrington for Saskatchewan in 1975 (I’ve always wanted a Vespa). I will be 59 in a few months. It is remarkable that I count most of the albums you showed as my favourites too. Some I grew to love well after their release, but Elvis Costello, The Smiths, Billy Bragg and Prefab Sprout I have adored from their early days. It is funny how we are located on different sides of the world but are very similar in our musical taste. Cheers for your channel!

I’m late to this one, Rob, but better late than never. Great video, great taste in music! As you probably know, we share a favorite album of all time in Quadrophenia. Nothing even comes close to it for me. I’m in tears every time I hear it because of what it meant to me, and I wasn’t even a Mod (or Rocker either). Smiths, Prefab Sprout….great music. I need to get into The Jam and Weller. I know almost nothing about that music. I plan to use this video as a guide to exploring music over this upcoming week. Cheers! Jeff

we're the same age (I'm 60 next week) though your hair has lasted a lot better than mine!! I remember those K-Tel records - my corner shop used to sell them. I bought my first LP there at about 10 - Geoff Love and his Orchestra's Big War Movie Themes. Class, and I still play iy now.
following a crap football team (Swansea in my case) and music (Queen, Led Zep, Springsteen) have been 2 of the most important things in my life too. We've a couple of records in common - Quadrrophenia, Blondie and Stone Roses.
    anyway, great video 🙂

Awesome video Rob 😀🍿🎸🙌🎶 78 was such a cracking year with ‘Parallel Lines’; ‘This Year’s Model’ & ‘All Mod Cons’; all superb albums and I seen Paul Weller live and he was really good live back in Newcastle City Hall April 2022. That’s so cool you saw Elvis Costello when he brought out ‘Armed Forces’; really looking forward to seeing him in September 😎🎸 ‘Quadrophenia’ is both great film and legendary album by The Who bud. Smiths’ S/T debut turned 40 this week 😀🍿🎂🎸🎶 Keep up the excellent work Rob mate 👍

Hi Rob, interesting to see what were important LPs for you. I've never listened to The Smiths before but have seen many sing their praises in the VC. I've actually got that album in a box here somewhere, picked up in a collection I got a while back. You've inspired me to find it and dig it out, clean it up and give it a serious listen. At first I thought this thread was something I would pass on, but as I watched I got to thinking of more and more LPs I might use. Have a great weekend.

I was 13 in 1970, so the early 70s were my formative years. I was buying punk and post-punk in the late '70s, but they weren't as life-changing for me as the early '70s - more guitar rock, so none made my 15! I also had an older woman crush on Debbie Harry! I saw Costello in late '77 at Barbarellas, a small club in Brum. That was my first gig with my first wife who never mentioned it again. I thought it was amazing anyway! The '80s were a musical desert for me. Obviously, I've gone back, particularly late 80s, though I still can't get on with the Smiths, particularly Morrisey. Most of mine were the 90s and early 00s. It's nice to see how different these pivotal albums are for different people. Thanks for the mention at the end! So you have watched my reminiscing! Great video, Rob. Cheers, mate 👍

Hey Rob thanks for sharing so many personal stories. Like you music and football are my two passions. You have shown some absolute classics. All Mod Cons is such a timeless album. I am a huge Weller fan. I see him every time he comes to Australia. Only saw him earlier this month and it was another religious experience. The songs from his new album were fabulous, so I look forward to its release. I really feel as though I have grown up with Paul and we have shared so much of life. You and I are exactly the same age. But I would say we’ve had quite a bit of different influences in music. Part of that might be due to our surroundings. Parallel Lines still sounds exciting these days. Energy + hooks = fab! Costello for sure! And YES, The Jam... while I prefer All Mod Cons and more, the album This Is the Modern World was the album that kicked open the doors for me so that is why that album is the one on my list! While Mod music was somewhere popular here, Mod culture was not that big. Small pockets of Mods in OC and LA. I loved the music but could never look that sharp! My buddy went to school in England for a year and came back and showed me the import to the first Smiths album... I've been a fan ever since. He also had the single to This Charming Man, which was not on the UK album BUT was added to the US album when that came out a bit later! Ironically enough, the other record he brought back from the UK was the first Billy Bragg EP and I loved that, too! And Prefab! Love them. I picked up Swoon because it was filed in the new 'imports' S section (the store thought the band was called Swoon)... they also mispriced it so it was half the price of other import albums... it looked interesting and wasn't expensive so I bought it. I'm an even bigger Prefab fan than I am a Smiths fan!

I was late to Billy Bragg - I think the first I heard of him was on the albums he did with Wilco but it wasn't until... at least 2010 that I heard "A New England" and the Life's a Riot album. Just him and his guitar was such a cool sound. I associate him a lot with discovering Jeremy Corbin, so maybe I didn't hear his non-wilco stuff until around 2016. He's great.

The question is Rob…..are you a King Gizz completist? 😂 only joking. I pity the Gizz completists, their output is brutal! I have about four of their albums, but they seem to do that many per year. My favourite Elvis is My Aim is True, I love that album, and I saw Elvis but I think 1982 in London, so really he was past his touring peak. My story ie football to music is pretty music the same. As you say, excellent idea for a thread. Mike

Hi Mike I’ve about 12 king gizzard albums. There discography is a bit daunting to say the least. This is a fun thread and it’s easy when you’re talking about such familiar albums. Thanks for watching Mike 👍
