You're a brave soul for going in there. If I saw evidence of a squatter, I would have bolted immediately.

That house had to been abandoned for well over 20 years and is definitely nasty. There was a lot of cool stuff left behind. I love the picture of the couple with the Soul Train theme you’re holding up at the end. I’m glad you didn’t come across the person squatting inside. Stay safe and be careful out there.

Good real video. Maybe yelling HELLO would be in order? (or at least a good warning) Stay safe and continue to document the sunset of a river town.

I feel sad for anyone who had to resort to squatting there.

I was hesitant about what's been done on 3rd and 4th streets over the last 15 years or so but in looking through your videos and thinking back to many of the places I've seen here over the last 4+ decades I'm fully on board now. Most of these neighborhoods where half of the homes are abandoned were always extra space, people only built there because more prime lots were taken. I was opposed to the city getting involved with clearing nearly entire streets but, honestly, 3rd and 4th from Fast Eddie's up to Little Mexico look a LOT better than they ever did before since over a dozen homes were taken down. Will there ever be a big hotel built near St. Joseph's/Claire? Who knows. But, that's the question for all of these random pockets of disparaged homes and neighborhoods; will anything ever be done there? On 3rd and 4th it was about removing blight, a facelift for the city sold to us under the hanging carrot of ''Maybe we'll get a Hilton!'' kind of dodgy bait & switch. Ok, fine, that's cool if that's how it had to go down - but - why does it have to stop now that we all know it was about blight removal?
I'm not oblivious. I'm not blind to the fact that COVID is an ongoing issue but I do see lots of stimulus money still being spent on repaving roads, rebuilding curbs, sidewalks, the wall and retainers along the park on Christian Hill, lots of infrastructure money being spent that other states chose to give directly to its most needy citizens FOR FOOD and RENT, ie to keep them alive. Why can none of that money be put toward continuing to reduce housing blight? It doesn't have to be rehabs, it could be demos and replacements with budget housing. It just irks me that cronyism is still here. After all those years under Sandidge, where Alton was 100% buddy system run, I was hopeful that they at least would keep such shameful practices more covert. It's not the end of the world or even something I would get upset about but it is a point to not lose focus on or let be swept under any rug. Thanks for doing these videos, people need to see them and hear your commentary.

Thanks awesome for the comment, I read it all. I’m kinda bummed out when they tear them down or I don’t get in too film. I like having material, but I understand the need to clean neighborhoods up and clear out old decaying lots
