That's the Alby St quarry- That's just one quarry there in Alton. There's a bigger one couple miles away still extremely active. The quarries were a major source of revenue and helped sustain the town during the great depression. I've been at that quarry a few times as a truck driver 15 yrs ago to get loads of rock.. Thats not an abandoned house, that was the main office for the quarry Thats an old quarry. Many streets there still have chunks of limestone for curbs on the old brick roads goin back into 1800s.. So much history here in Alton.. Lincoln debated Douglas there in Alton before he was President; Elijah Lovejoy was killed there- an anti- slavery journalist.. The underground railroad was active there with underground tunnels from houses leading down to the river (still there), There's remnants of a prison there from the Civil War. There are also reported to be several haunted houses there and tours are given of them during Halloween, mostly. There's the Piasa Bird painting on the great river road on the bluffs- an ancient native American 'myth' going way back. And the tallest man in the world, Robert Wadlow, was born n lived there.. Alton is full of great history.. U shoulda stayed longer bro. It's a fascinating town I live in
The first building was a scale house/office. The second one you came to was a maintenance area where the tool room and lockers were. The various conveyors stacked material in the round shaped lot at that far end . 335 feet deep from surface to pit floor but it's taken on a lot of water.
Good drone video Travis, I get the same way every time I take mine out to fly... Scared to let it go out of my line of site, even though that's what they are made to do... I just can't stand the idea of $1,000 bill just flying away.
@@TravisHeinze The controller for the Mini3 comes with a built-in screen like the one you have, the Mini2 controller uses your phone for the video screen. I thought I would just buy the mini3 controller when they updated it to operate the mini2 but they have not yet done whatever they need to do to make it work with the mini2.
@@leroymcclelland7042 Thank you for speaking up on behalf of Alton. From your explanation of what I saw, I am reminded that just because I see colorful water doesn't mean I'm looking at a Superfund site.

Have you ever listened to the Van Morrison album called Hymns to the Silence
I thought you were going to lose that drone once it went over the water. Pretty interesting footage to say the least.

I have seen dozens of vids that show just that fate. You are wise to keep your toy in sight.
Nice!
Thats very cool. I have a DJI mini2 and it takes really decent video like that. What drone do you have?
Travis has the Mini3... I have a mini2 as well, Dandee are you comfortable letting yours fly out-of-sight? I am NOT ;>
Good flying vidio

Nice Ride
Hey Travis what kind of drone is that or should i ask which drone brand/model are you using in the video ?
Why won'tthe DJI controller for the Mini3 work with the mini2? I was told they would eventually... But not yet.
Wow, it's broken? You have all the updates?

I go swimming there :)
any cameras?
Great use of the Drone T. Looks like you found a satellite branch of the Ozark drug Cartel.
Some of the water in the quarry was a lovely shade of blue-green, but that was probably because it's toxic.
The minerals cause the color, we have a lot of limestone and silica quarries around here and they are similar color

I've purchased 3 drones. I killed two of them. Maybe third times the charm. Peace Brother
Don't get too skilled with the drone T. The military will want to recruit you for the upcoming China shoot out. Drone operators will be in demand.

Some hillbilly drug cartels will skin you alive, Deliverance.
No, Alton aint like that. If anything, he'd be killed by black gangs there. I know. I live there. This aint no hillbilly town
