    Just wanted to say thanks for such a great video! You showed every step so clearly that any dummy should be able to follow your instructions! This will help me out so much and make installing my electric seats very quickly! Thanks again and God bless.

    Good job Dave. Was gonna say the extra wires were for the seatbelt and airbag sensors, but it's already been mentioned...keep it up..

    Hi Dave , Greg here . I'm on the edge of my chair watching this . Those seats look quite fancy . I've never looked at modern seats from underneath , there a lot to them . Being a low options kind of fellow ( manual everything ) this is pretty cool. Almost makes me want to put a loony in one of those claw machines in the shopping malls and try to pick up a stuffed toy !

      They are also very heavy, so I hope my little V8 copes with the extra weight, from the chair and the big pile of fat that sits on it.

    Great video on the wiring. Very simple and straightforward. I will be trying this weekend.

    I pulled some seats like those out of a 2004 chevy monte carlo. they hook into the floor on the front and a bolt in each track at the rear. Very comfortable driver interface units.

    When you were playing with that bundle of wires, I couldn’t help thinking of a 007 movie, where Bond has 20 seconds to diffuse a nuclear bomb. Cut the wrong wire, and BOOM!.....or maybe it adjusts the lumbar support.
    Looking forward to your upholstery videos. That’s something I know nothing about, but would love to learn.
    BTW, your sounding good on that guitar. It took me a long time to fret the chords that cleanly. 👍Tony

      Thanks Tony. Once I know where the seat is going, I'll tear them down and hand them over to my wife. She doesn't want to be filmed, but I'll do my best to sneak some footage. Hope that's not a chargeable offense lol.

    Hey Dave. Funny that you posted this video just now. My Grandson and I were just talking about getting a set of power seats that look close to what you have. Mine are coming out of a 1999 GMC Jimmy. They are beige leather. I will die them black to suite the Fargo. Mine are still in the Jimmy, so maybe it will be easy for me to remove them with all the pigtails. 😷👍👍 Your guitar is a little more tuned now.

    The wires that run through that yellow connector were for an airbag sensor. At least two wires should go over to the seatbelt connector that run that annoying light on the dash when you don’t have your belt on. Hope that helps

    • @ted5415
      @ted5415 4 роки тому

      two wires twisted together are usually for airbag or computer communication. they are twisted to help shield the signal from interference from other wires. there are usually 4 wires for heated seats, 2 to heat the grids and 2 to a thermostat to shut off/on when temp of seat gets too hot.

    • @ScottRods
      @ScottRods  4 роки тому

      Yes, I figured a couple might be for the seat belt tensioner and BOING noise. I'll be sure to hook them up again............NOT

    • @sdalin27
      @sdalin27 3 роки тому

      @@ted5415 Any idea if you have to be careful not to trigger the airbags by testing for wire functions? Just pulled some BMQ 745Li seats to go in my humvee which have heat/cool/massage, and tons of power movement functions.

    • @ted5415
      @ted5415 3 роки тому

      @@sdalin27 not sure about BMW but airbag wires are usually run in separate yellow connectors. your seat probably has side airbags so try to trace those wires and dont test them to be safe. if not using the side airbags then you should remove them completely from the seat.

    Hoot Man! (sorry). You got luckier than me. The seats I am using came out of a Ford that I worked before removing. Like yours, I had 2 big wires, and 10 small ones. I hooked up the 2 big wires like you did, but nothing. Don't know how to figure out all the little ones.

    • @ScottRods

      Maybe the seat frame acts as part of the grounding?

    • @toadabc
      @toadabc 2 роки тому

      @@ScottRods So nice of you to answer, and so fast. Thank you. My passenger seat is power and just uses the two wires like you did and it worked without the frame grounded. But the drivers seat has 10 additional wires that passenger seat doesn't have. I think the problem is with those.

    • @ScottRods
      @ScottRods  2 роки тому

      Hey, no problem. I wonder if your driver seat needs a signal to tell it the vehicle is in park. Like the neutral start switch? Tell us all what vehicle the seats came out of and we can do some wiring research together.

    • @toadabc
      @toadabc 2 роки тому

      @@ScottRods Thanks again. The seats came out of a 2001 Ford Explorer LTD that I purchased as a parts car. To get the seats out, I put a battery in the Explorer and the seats worked front and back so I could get to the bolts. The switches and drivers and passengers seats are the same and they have the same functions. The difference being the additional 10 messenger wires are the mystery.

      @@ScottRods Showed the seat to a friend. He doesn't know the answer, but showed me that the small wires got to a circuit board under the seat. I am sure it monitors something, but don't know if I can by-pass or just energize it from the power source.
