I must have listened to this album and Candy O 2000 times when these two records came out in the 1970s. As a 15 -16yo I loved and still love this band and they helped shape me become the adult that I am today. Hard to believe it was 40 years ago?! RIP Ric Okasek and Benjamin Orr, your music will live on forever.
I am jealous I must say of you being there at just the right age when they began. My brother played all of his records loud enough to pass through the wall between our bedrooms. The Cars were in heavy rotation, especially the Shake It Up album that should’ve been named “Cruiser”. Heartbeat City became the first new Cars record I bought at 15 years young. That had a big wow factor. I had the thrill of discovering “Panorama” as the only one that I didn’t even know about! I’m so glad for UA-cam giving me The Cars from the start.
One of the greatest bands ever. All 5 are extremely talented. How talented is Elliot Easton? He is a self-taught guitarist who is right handed. After the Cars became a band, one of their promoters/managers suggested he switch to playing left-handed so that it would be more visually appealing during live shows. So be did! Now THAT is talent!
Very good footage here. Thank you for sharing this fabulous group. I loved them in the 70's and 80's... it's 2024 and I still listen to them. All so talented and of course Benjamin was so damn good looking!! 😍
My favorite era for this talented crew from the States. Their inaugural album The Cars will go down as one of thee greatest albums of ALL time. Period. Remember the date people...the end of the '70s and the music biz was looking for new directions...so of course up popped The Cars and their new genre...that totally freaked out music lovers all over the entire planet - and even over here in New Zealand where I'm from. I'd NEVER heard anything like The Cars before. I was in to Van Halen with a decent hunk of Meatloaf on the side - and I turned 15 in '78. So when Ric Ocasek came on to the stage with his Jet Pilot aviation sunglasses, pencil thin physique, all leather jacket & pants with black boots, and the coolest hair style in the music biz, well it was always going to be game OVER for other contenders. And then Benn Orr - the blonde surfie-model...what a recipe for utter success. The Cars sound during this era '78-'80 totally blew the music industry critiques minds, not to mention audiences and the good folk like me who bought their albums.
@@kathygrinder3076- Just the other day I was thinking about this comment and my reply to it. I might edit it or write an additional reply. This comment is the only one I’ve ever seen describing Benjamin as having a surfer dude look. As you and I know, his style and vibe was pure rockstar.
RIP Ben Orr and Ric Ocasek. So, it turns out that they were one of the best New Wave (or Rock) bands that ever lived. Also, one of the few bands who never had any personnel changes. All 5 were extremely talented, and they were Happy songs!! Thank you Ric Ocasek for writing such great songs.
He knew Benjamin Orr could sing his songs and it’s incredible. How a band like this could come about from a random meeting with two people so many years previous..

Same
One of the greatest bands ever.
That's nuts!
Very hard to believe the right-handed claim. It is visually more appealing, I agree. It's where Paul McCartney stood. Was he left-handed?
A wives tale...that the Cars wouldn't correct, they found it hilarious people spread it around.
Easton tells the story himself in a documentary. Was he lying?
RIP Rick OCASEK. An Australian cars fan.
Ric!
I love ❤️ the way Ben says ORANGIE Sky ❤
He was so fucking foxy, I mean shit! Wow...He was the pulse, and the eye candy, not to mention that awesome voice...
One of my favorite videos of Ben. He had it all. Can’t help but love it and be sad at the same time.
Their debut and Candy O are as good as it gets! Absolute rock royalty!!
The CARS is at it's BEST WHEN BENJAMIN IS THE LEAD VOCALIST. The CARS est à son MEILLEUR QUAND BENJAMIN EST LE CHANTEUR PRINCIPAL .
They’re always good
Very good footage here. Thank you for sharing this fabulous group. I loved them in the 70's and 80's... it's 2024 and I still listen to them. All so talented and of course Benjamin was so damn good looking!! 😍
wow, never saw this one, young, healthy, beautiful and at the top of their world.
I know what you’re getting at here, but a dismissive “blonde surfie-model” to describe the style of Benjamin Orr’s look, ouch.
@@ellab8897 ouch is right
More like blonde sex God...
Remember the first Cars Videos? They had Ben playing behind Ric and Elliott. That changed real quick...
He didn’t just write the lyrics, he wrote all of it!
He knew Benjamin Orr could sing his songs and it’s incredible. How a band like this could come about from a random meeting with two people so many years previous..
What a unique tight band they were, two top lead singers at opposite ends of the looks department but they just got on with it and boy they rocked.Much missed Ben Orr RIP.
Just THE BEST new wave band around. Ric & Ben may be gone but their music lives on just as fresh as when The Cars & Candy O were released. Nobody sounds like them and no one ever will again . Such an original & talented group of guys. Cars 4 ever!
Elliot Easton guitar hero studio man perfection and live performist to match
Benjamin Orr was so handsome!!! Loved him!!!! Bye bye love loved that song!!!! He had such an incredible voice!!!! Miss him dearly 💔 rip Ben
Ben Orr ! The cutest in the world ! Gone too soon 🥲
Elliot Easton is one of the very best guitarists ever in rock
I have to say the Cars were one of the Frenchiest looking American bands you'll see.
Is that a compliment or an insult?!!!!
But they rock 80s 90s
Definitely one of those bands who were too good to not be British or European. Same with the Left Banke.
@@robertjorgensen4518 Correction: 70's & 80's
Not quite sure how a "frenchy"-looking band is supposed to look. I guess when you would ask Americans they'd say "be dressed all green and love water" ?
Comment j'aimerais être là. The CARS étaient uniques. Benjamin Orr était quelque chose de spécial. Sa voix et son apparence étaient impressionnantes. Repose en paix cher Benjamin.
D'accord! Il était unique!
I listened to the Cars growing up. I listen to the cars as a 52 year old. The cars music was in all the coming of age movies of the 80s. It was and is the soundtrack of my life
I so miss these guys! They were sooooo quirky/groovy. And Ben Orr? Helluva front man!
The Cars, Such a Timeless Band! So Talented, their Music so Legendary . We all as Cars Fans, Wish they had been around so much longer, than they did. R.I.P. Benjamin & Ric, and God Bless Greg, Elliott, and Dave on Drums!. They were So Brilliant, ahead of their time. So much Respect for them, and so Loved over here in the U.K!.
This band is the epitome of pure brilliance.
This video shows just how tight
of a band The Cars were.
Each and every member was so talented!
Great shot of Elliot and Ben connecting at 7:50 through the outro, both locked into the groove and the smiles on each them reveal just how much fun it is to jam together. I remember those moments from my jam band days.
absolutely adorable
Love those looks too. Although that’s right when UA-cam put a f@@@ ad in the sequence !
That sort of sideway look Ben gives…so amazing…thank you for posting this incredible set!!
And those smiles at the end of Bye Bye Love…you just don’t see this anymore …
Sexy side eye…haha! I love Ben
😻
holy smokes, what a nice gift to my youtube feed. the bassist is incredible.
1978....I was 15 in San Dimas California playing the hell out of this album. Great memories!!
RIP Ric and Ben
15 in Grand Ridge Fla. and wore their debut album out.
@@dtruth4969awesome 👌 👏
Ben Orrs voice is dreamy
If I had to choose one band forever !!!!!
Ben looked so frickin' hot here! Wish I had seen these guys live back in the day. R.I.P. Ben.
I would've loved to have traded places with Benjamin's microphone!!!
Forever MPH hes cuter than my girlfriend
Or his guitar. Lol
His guitar would be ok too!
🤣
😆😆😆😆, I totally get you!!
Ben Orr RIP and Thank you!
Such a talented and handsome guy
This video really showed david robinsons driving force behind the kit….great drummer!
Hawkes’ keyboards are so integral to the sound, and Ben Orr has the best voice. And there’s Ric, of course. The band is solid.
