Elliot Easton is so effin cool because of how much of himself he gives his performance. When the lead breaks come for Bye Bye Love he confronts the audience with a cocky rock n roll bravado that is irresistible, stepping out front, holding up his guitar as he plays his spirited licks asking the audience 'What do you think of that? Is that good enough for ya? Is it enough for your teenage love?' There's a certain machismo about him that makes you smile and excites you. Its deeply satisfying to watch because he delivers the goods. He's the real deal. And when you see him reach down with lighting speed to turn up or down a tone or volume knob in the space of a millisecond you see how attuned to the music he is. He gives himself to it. And that's all any of us wants to see: authenticity. Someone playing it how they feel it. Long live Elliot Easton.
One of the greatest live bands ever to tour. They're better live and sound like the record. And nobody sounds like them. Great musicians all around, the best of the bunch in their era.
I’ve got a lot of Respect for a band like the Cars. Each member compliments the other members musically. Very Talented Musicians that Deserve more credit.
Such a talented tight band the live versions sound like the studio version and that's difficult to do. I saw them in 1979, spent my paper route money to go, great memory of a lifetime.
Yes, but compare his appearance to his performance during the "Live Aid" concert. There he looked very healthy, vibrant, and well-rested. But in the above video, he looks very tired, as if he has not gotten enough sleep. His eyes are dark. But during the live aid performance, he looked like he was at the top of his health. Does anybody disagree with me? It's just a personal observation and no ill intent is meant here.
Greg amazes me. Extremely talented. Ben had long eyelashes a woman wound envy.❤❤😊😊. Him and Ric are sorely missed😢😢😢😢. Ben's bass guitars matches his outfit😂😂😅😅.
@@julenepegher6999 He was the photogs dream subject. So photogenic. And he exuded an uncontrived sensual, HOT allure. Oh. Benjamin. You were SO LOVED! Still are.
The thing that makes Benjamin fantastic & often underrated as just a pretty boy with good vocals is his ability to sing lead vocals brilliantly and play bass. I've read & friends in bands have told me that it is extremely challenging to do both because the bassist has to listen for the drum kicks & bassline of the drums which often has it's own type of melody. He seems to have no issue with it ...does it as easily as chewing gum & to top it off he can play lead guitar, keyboards, drums as well. Electric Angel Rock and Roller...
It is a challenge to sing and play bass! I took lessons, learned some of the Cars songs, but I would forget a line or something sometimes, lol. I love Ben & the Cars much! Each of the guys have amazing talent!!
Great comment. It is indeed difficult to play bass and sing...I do it. I think he's sexy (I have a man crush)...that doesn't hurt either :) RIP Benjamin...

Well, the Beatles has two. Fleetwood Mac…. The Band… definitely the Eagles. It was uncommon however look at those groups. They great! How about groups that had one lead singer then another like Genesis… or as said here… AC/DC! About Cars.. Ric Ocasek - genius.
I have a renewed appreciation for The Cars. They really are all so amazingly talented. What a great live performance. Greg Hawkes was phenomenal at 13:52 with his sax (sorry if I'm wrong, don't know my wind instruments) solo. Absolutely amazing. Too bad the sound engineering failed on his keyboard solo at 21:00. moodylicious Yes, it’s really addicting but one of my simple pleasures. I get caught in the past also. The Cars were such a huge part of my life so many memories attached to certain songs. “God it’s such a drag when you’re living in the past” that’s Tom Petty, (Even the Losers). Your description of Ben is perfect. All I can think is he’s reaping rewards in Heaven. And I have to say I do love Ric, David, Elliot and Greg but Ben was just extra special.
The Cars give the term "New Wave" a good name. Very smart, sleek and modern rock with great songwriting and playing (and a pretty good look too especially that pretty Ben Orr RIP).
This audience should be ashamed of the lack of interest and applause towards one of the best bands ever. The Cars were just brilliant. Rest in peace lovely Benjamin and Ric.
100% agree. Plus, someone threw a glass bottle at Ben, that's why he mouthed 'I'm gonna get you' mid song. (Bye, bye, love) Then there was the piece of sh** who called out 'thank God it's free!' just before the last song. I bet you the band couldn't wait to get out of there!!!
The entire show is great...but there are standouts...Night Spots, Bye Bye Love, and You're All I've Got Tonight jam. All mixed up is extraordinary. What a gem to have this early performance. Thanks, for posting.
I was 21 when this was happening. This album changed the world for me when it came out. I played it everyday on my way from gunnison colorado, driving up to ski Crested Butte, all day long with a season ski pass, and I'd work at the three thieves steak house in crested butte every night. I thought I would wear that tape out, but it just kept on going. Then candy-o came out and that marked a whole new era in my life. But both albums were all time classics, because it was like both albums were perfectly engineered to listen to all the way through. And each song fed into the next as one whole masterpiece. Two of the greatest albums of all time, hands down, second to almost none.
7 years since it posted but I'm still gonna comment. 🤷♀️ There were a few a--holes in the crowd yelling disrupting, derogatory calls like "so and so's a poofter" and such, not realizing they were witnessing music history in the making. I'm glad that later in the set somebody yelled to those few, "SHUT UP YOU BAHSARDS!" Such a pity that I never saw them (and many other bands I love) perform a live show. Sigh. Quite grateful for recordings like these.
Well I'm nearly 49 years old I listened to them in the 80s as a teenager you picked a great band to be your favorite band and their one of my favorite bands.
Forgot to say, I’m 64. Saw The Cars in ‘79 at Arrowhead Stadium. Memory is still clear. Every house party had their debut album on turn table rotation. No one sounded like them, maximum trendsetters.
@@KittyGrizGriz not a bad song on their debut album. It’s a masterpiece. Part the reason it’s so good is bc it was produced by Roy Thomas baker same guy who did queen.

Very talented musicians, all of them. One thing that doesn’t get mentioned is how good a rhythm guitarist Ric Ocasek was. His parts were relatively simple but his timing, strumming and muting skills were spot on. I love all of Elliot’s playing but Ric accounted for an important ingredient in the band’s overall sound.

Whom I had never heard of at the time. Ric was even wearing the same clothes and aviator sunglasses on stage. As far as I can remember they played the same song list in this order.
Very cool! I’ve loved The Cars my whole life, but I wasn’t born until 1979. I was just a small child when they officially disbanded, so I never got the privilege of seeing them perform live other than via MTV, VH1, UA-cam, etc. I still love them so much to this very day! 🌹

I wasn't into the Cars at the time, more of a metal head than anything else, LOL. I have to say though that THIS, is how I like to see my favorite bands. Ben Orr looks upset or down right pissed off at 19:37 and mouths something to someone in the audience between versus. After that moment he really rips it up on his vocals and bass. Amazing Concentration. I thought once the song was done he was going to go deck somebody.
Someone in the audience tossed a drink at him. It missed but he was pissed. You can see him mouth the words “I’m looking at you” and give that icy stare. Then they really ripped it.
Such a charismatic band......from a time when beards, shortpants , sneakers and baseball caps weren't yet the norm. Ben Or was a fascinating performer ; they all were, but he was very special. Ironic that during his last year on this planet he regained his cool looks.

What we wouldn't give to have these guys back again. Great talent, all so humble, miss you Ben and Ric.💯❤🙏
Ditto...
A proper band. Pure talent right there. So tragic losing Ben too soon, such a beautiful person. RIP Ben and Ric
Elliot Easton is crazy

Elliot is awesome for sure. I really liked his work on Candy-O.
Elliot Easton is a Great Guitarist. He shines on his solos and throughout the songs adds so much complimenting the other players and song
The hook *master* !
The Cars were such a good live band. Not many bands can say that.
All the great can say it. And there's too many to name.
The cars the band in the best world ❤❤❤❤
One of the greatest live bands ever to tour. They're better live and sound like the record. And nobody sounds like them. Great musicians all around, the best of the bunch in their era.
best looking and sounding singer in any band ever!!!!! R.i.P. BEN...We miss you!!!
This IS fresh sounding each and every passing year!!! (currently 2023)
Benjamin Orr was/is/will always be : SUPERB!
Benjamin is unbelievable!! I think his voice is underrated!! So Cool!!
Just so incredibly good. This crowd was not worthy of them.
@@dennisoneel5069 saw them in ‘79 too.
BEN THE HEART OF THE BAND
this band is deliciously talented, tight and original, so groovy and super cool. timeless masterpieces!
the songs - Wow! 🤯❤
Ben is STUNNING!
@@daffidavit Yeah, he has definitely got bags under his eyes in this.
Greg amazes me. Extremely talented. Ben had long eyelashes a woman wound envy.❤❤😊😊. Him and Ric are sorely missed😢😢😢😢. Ben's bass guitars matches his outfit😂😂😅😅.
Ben Orr's facial expressions when he sings soooooooo cute plus that dreamy eyes🎼🎸🎹
Mmm yes, how about when he’s singing and you can see just the side of his face, I’m totally amazed a picture perfect profile!
@@julenepegher6999 He was the photogs dream subject.
So photogenic. And he exuded an uncontrived sensual, HOT allure.
Oh. Benjamin.
You were SO LOVED!
Still are.
Oh I know! I still have a heavy heart for Benjamin Orr. He was so hot!!
Elliot Easton...always spot on...with his little/big solos. Love this band. One infectious hit after another.
It”s so nice seeing Ben”s smile when he sings this song!!!
Leave it to me. It will be alright!
Ben Orr. Great talent. Bedroom eyes.
Selena Diaz I think that I read somewhere that he was a guitarist originally, but switched to bass.
I think he's sexy (I have a man crush)...that doesn't hurt either :)
RIP Benjamin...
Let's not forget Geddy Lee of Rush, on bass and lead vocals, but Ben has him beat in the looks department! This audience was a group of deadbeats!
@@danielliddle3280 ooohhh my gosh....what an incredible live show they put on!!!!! I was on North Carolina I think it might have been...1991 or 1992 i saw them in Raleigh! Incredible!!
One of the best bands in the history of music, no question!
RIP Benjamin ahhhhwww you were Young and Strong Healthy..we miss you !

He was 31 in this concert. RIP beautiful Benjamin.
These boys are the Rock gods of their time. We’re so lucky & blessed to watch them play again, again…… on You Tube. Better know it🙌🍾🥂
Im nearly 48 & I've just really discovered The Cars.. & they're bloody great 🔥
Welcome to the club! Saw them in ‘79, don’t think there is any song of theirs I dislike, fantastic group!
What's took you so long you wanker
The Cars were so so great. They were to good for this weird audience. Rest in peace lovely Benjamin and Ric. You'll remain forever in our hearts.
I’m stunned that I just recently discovered that The Cars had two lead singers. Both with excellent hit songs
The only OTHER group I
know of that pulled that
off was AC/DC after Bon
"accidentally" died in that
car unbenounced to the
Young brothers!!😡 I my
self never believed it was
an accident😞😕
Yup.
Well, the Beatles has two. Fleetwood Mac…. The Band… definitely the Eagles. It was uncommon however look at those groups. They great! How about groups that had one lead singer then another like Genesis… or as said here… AC/DC! About Cars.. Ric Ocasek - genius.
Ben Orr, much better than Ocasek.
Living under a rock or just younger?
Ben looked fabulous here.
Again, just a brilliant performance by each band member.
Benjamin Orr fabulous!!!!!!!!, wonderful voice !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The way Ben and Rick share the Lead vocals is magic .
Reminds me of John and Paul..
I want to rewind to 1978 so I can just live this music one more time around.
I’d love to rewind to 1978 so I could hear them for the very first time again.
tears in my eyes listening to this 11-11-2020 just beautiful missed so much BEN and RICK

@@ellab8897Ben was so incredibly gorgeous 😍 with a rockstar body & voice. He had a beautiful angelic voice, as well. He was extremely humble & so professional even after the fools in the crowd were being rude & throwing stuff at him/the band. RIP Ben Orr 😢 & Ric you both will never be forgotten.
Eliot Easton plays the most perfect little guitar solos. Love the guy. That was a killer version of Night Spots.
I love him too. He was the "underdog" as far as the other guys because he didn't have a girlfriend @ that time . He said it was a rough time for him. I just read that random fact. He is a great guitarist.
Cheers!
Want to know whats better than kicking the guys ass who threw an object @ ben during bye bye love? Ben singing and staring you down the whole time mouthing "I'm going to get you"WANTING too kick your ass, but is classy about it and channels all of that anger into his best performance of bye bye love ever!
Fiercely gorgeous when provoked for sure! I love this rendition ❤
I think he's the sexiest thing I've ever seen ..bags and all lol .. he's amazing... Hands down the most AMAZING live performance I've ever seen .. ❤
These guys were great. I wish they could have lived and played forever
Virtually via AI they all will.
Electrifying performances!!!! Loved Benjamin with all of my heart He's so gorgeous!!! Groovey red pants!!!! Beautiful voice bad ass at bass!!!! Loveeeee loveeeee loved this band!!!! I'm crying I miss Benjamin so much RIP And Ric
Yes yes yes and yes!!!
….and YES!!❤️
This concert is simply brilliant, instrumentally, the vocals, doing all their original material. Certainly one of the most underrated great bands ever.
This is one of my favorite videos of The Cars. They power through the jealousy and hate from some twit Brits like the pros they were! Ben's heavy baseline ;) and Ric's lyrics.
Yes. But don't feel too badly as The Cars got paid for their greatness
I dont.
How Orr (and his bandmates) handled that...just goes to show how cool he was. 😎
My cousin Angela RIP saw them in Upper Darby PA before they went to Europe. When they hit, it was like a left hook. So much talent among the whole group. Elliot is a frigging beast! One of the greatest bands from the late 1970's. My God we had The Cars, Foreigner, Kansas, Jethro Tull, Aerosmith, Boston, it just keeps going and going. I can tell you this, it'll never happen again. The 10 year period of 1968 to 1978 was just so fucking awesome! I was in High School when this video was made. RIP Ben and Ric! Thanks for all the great music.
Man. Ben is belting "Bye Bye Love". This where they threw something at him and really ticked him off.
Spectacular performance. I can't believe how rude the audience was!
@@kittensanddaisies5615- The Cars did a kick ass job here & that audience sucked! . Especially after some jerk decided to throw something @ them. What a treat this performance is though. Cheers!
if i passed someone looking exactly like that, I'd prob faint.
He was that drop dead exoticly gorgeous.
Yep, faint dead away, it’s mind boggling, I’ll never ever get over his absolute beauty no matter how many time I watch.
@@julenepegher6999 frankly, i have to remove myself from watching The Cars for weeks at a time. Otherwise I become captivated and re-immersed into a world of the past, where now two of those guys are angels. Benjamin was the most perfectly beautiful, cool, alluring and vocally amazing musician I have ever seen.
~such a rare human
moodylicious Yes, it’s really addicting but one of my simple pleasures.
And as talented as he was beautiful.
The Cars give the term "New Wave" a good name. Very smart, sleek and modern rock with great songwriting and playing (and a pretty good look too especially that pretty Ben Orr RIP).
My god they were so perfect! It's almost as if they were playing to a track. As a guitar player I love finally hearing them as a live act!
This audience should be ashamed of the lack of interest and applause towards one of the best bands ever.
The Cars were just brilliant. Rest in peace lovely Benjamin and Ric.
A band that were completely unknown and an audience in late 70s England. Tough crowd.
Agonizingly awesome band......and Ben!
I truly wonder if he really knew just how awesome he was here on this earth . rest in peace beautiful man .you are missed.
I was so into The Cars back then, still love listening to them.
7 years since it posted but I'm still gonna comment. 🤷♀️
There were a few a--holes in the crowd yelling disrupting, derogatory calls like "so and so's a poofter" and such, not realizing they were witnessing music history in the making. I'm glad that later in the set somebody yelled to those few, "SHUT UP YOU BAHSARDS!"
Such a pity that I never saw them (and many other bands I love) perform a live show. Sigh. Quite grateful for recordings like these.
I’m 30 years old and the cars have been my all time favorite band ever sense I was a kid. Own every album
Well I'm nearly 49 years old I listened to them in the 80s as a teenager you picked a great band to be your favorite band and their one of my favorite bands.
Great taste you have!! Love them too.

@@Blap552 it was and I did, ‘79 Arrowhead Stadium, memories are clear and crisp, phenomenal band.
Ben even looks cool while clapping. How is that even possible??
Ikr!! Absolutely incredible at everything he did!
And in firetruck red pants no doubt!
Thank the heavens for UA-cam, that we can enjoy these timeless treasures.
this touched me deeply... this is when mates had to play, had to plug direct to amp ... no digitized bs no filter... this is talent
Elliott Easton : Highly underrated guitarist.
Agreed he is overlooked. Perhaps because his work was a little more understated in their later work
Dear God, that word again. Calgon, take me away.
If the audience only knew and appreciated what they were experiencing.
Ben forever! True , if they only knew!
Elliott and Ben! Just amazing
This is my favortie band of all times and i grew up in the 70s and 80s with the best music. But they were so unique and just had an instant loving of them Havent changed my mine for over 40 some years .. I miss these guys!
This should be mandatory viewing for the R&R Hall of Fame Induction Committee....
Absolutely
Fuck them. The hall is a joke.
This is why I was BIG fan from the late 70's and 80's while in High School and College / Surfing / racing my muscle car. A time when the bands played for the Fans and everyone enjoyed the music.
OH YEA !
I'm an old man now, but I saw the Cars during this tour.
It was in a small theater in Pittsburgh, PA. called the Stanley Theater.
The opening act was Patty Smyth and Scandal.
🌹
They were so great , they didnt get the recognition they deserved.
Each one were a great musician , together they were incredible!!
I have a very bad case of the jellies now! Would have loved to see that concert!
Happy you were able to see them! I saw them in ‘79 @ Arrowhead Stadium in KC. My 20 year old mind was blown. Can still picture, feel the vibe and energy. We were at the right time and place, peace.
Cars were tight live! Love them.
It’s unbelievable, that at the end, even though Ben was gone.A band that should have sold out the biggest stadiums in the country were playing the little bitty Electric Factory in Philly. What a band. A one of a kind. All original never copied.
1:04 Benjamin Orr and the fit of those red pants - I kind of lose my mind, yeah
Yep! I wore the same outfit as this! I had the red pants, super skinny legs, white shirt, black vest, and I usually wore some black boots with it and the skinny tie. I was 12, 13....I had his hair cut too! Yep, he was the man......
Yes, Ben was always stylish, such a cool dresser.

I wasn't into the Cars at the time, more of a metal head than anything else, LOL. I have to say though that THIS, is how I like to see my favorite bands. Early in their careers, live, and stripped down to the bare bones like any respectful garage band should be.
THAT'S, where you see the talent that deserves the fame that's coming.
Ah, back in the day when good bands sounded studio when playing live, and what a sweet band The Cars really were, thanks for the tunes guys🙏🏻
One of the greatest live bands ever to tour. They're better live and sound like the record. And nobody sounds like them. Great musicians all around, the best of the bunch in their era.😊
@@kelseymariel2127It was “I’m going to get you.”
@@April-pw5ub- correct. He was pissed.
Such a charismatic band......from a time when beards, shortpants , sneakers and baseball caps weren't yet the norm.
Ben Or was a fascinating performer ; they all were, but he was very special. Ironic that during his last year on this planet he regained his cool looks.
How come there's no more new bands like this one? Joe Eliot was writing and singing songs when when he was 20 years old! There was a lot of excelent rock and roll bands, I miss my youth!
Totally under appreciated band with their own original sound!
Thanks for posting! I was lucky enough to see them in late 77 and they were fantastic supporting Cheap Trick! It was a small theater in NJ and the band sat next to me to watch Cheap Trick ... signed my program! Ben was a GREAT singer RIP! They were also much tighter and at 12:15, just listen to the influences of their brilliance ... Phil Specter! RIP Ric! Bye Bye Love ...
That’s a great story! Ben WAS great they all were. Was 19 when they came out, such great times, Love the Cars and Cheap Trick!
