  • The Glock 17 is the gun that I recommend most often to my students. My students and I live in California, so we have dramatically reduced options for handguns. The Glock 17 is the best first gun available to us in California, based on my criteria for what I think makes a great first gun.

I’m a California native and own a G17. I like the way they shoot. I’ve had a G19 and a G36. The 17 feels better. My advice for owning a Glock is to absolutely resist the temptation to upgrade the internal parts. Keep it stock.

I did things a little backwards, got an AR-15 first then a Mossberg 500… finally got around to getting a handgun. Just picked up my Glock 17 gen 3 today. Going shooting Tomorrow. Thanks for the video 👍

I live in CA and was torn between this and the sig sauer sp2022 for my first firearm. I ultimately chose the g17 for it simplicity. The dealer was explaining the decocker, the hammer and the SA/DA trigger and when he explained the Glock he just racked it and said you're pretty much good to go. The only reason I was torn because I really hate the way the glocks look but like that it's striker fired. Hoping I chose the right one cuz I also hate how the slide release on the sp2022 is pretty big

Thank you for the thorough, detailed review! Just handling, I HAVE noticed “Glock knuckle” on the 19, but NOT the 17. Possibly something to do with the closer together finger grooves on the 19?
With the micro stamping requirement gone, hopefully we’ll get Gen 5 and the Echelon!
Looking at this and the new Springfield Echelon as a first pistol. With smaller hands and shorter fingers, I’d like to try the hopefully available “small” grip frame.

      Thank you!
Yeah, I also forgot to mention that I got the Glock Knuckle with the G20 in 10mm also. I'm not sure. I suspect that it's partly hand shape/how some people grip the gun, and partly the recoil / weight of gun. Not sure, more testing needed.
I wouldn't be surprised if we get a gen 5. Glock would have to put in a mag disconnect for us for the time being, like that new Sig 320 m18.
I'll be the Echelon is a good gun. I've been happy with most of my Springfield products--I'd be surprised if they make a dud. Good luck with your search!

Do an under cut on the trigger guard and the Glock knuckle will go away. Check out cold bore custom they do great Glock frame work.

That's about the only thing the communist socialist Republic of California did is keep the gen 3 alive if communist -fornia changed the list then the gen 3 would end up like the gen 1&2

Folks with gen 1 glocks (roughly) 38 ish years old are being to the polymer frame has become brittle and should be replaced I have a 110 and a 106 year old steel 1911. Both have been cared for and don’t have rust issues and still shoot 230 round nose bullets as well as they did in 1913 and 1917. Know of any 100 year old Glocks ? Just saying polymer is good and in some ways better than steel and in some worse. It’s just different is all.
