I would say it really isn't. But, it has one of the best rims BMW ever made, and that alone works really well with the lines of the car. The issue though was not the outside though, it was the absurd interior that hold it down.

U probably better of running ur engine hard than cold in BMW case or like me but don't try it ur self which is use the 5w-40 oil that Ferrari was using in their f430 and i am doing so far so good but i don't rev the engine hard and only for traveling alone the high way. 250000 kms later still on the original bearing haha.

As an owner, yes the sound of the v10 is intoxicating and it will put a big smile on your face. I bought a 2008 Black on Black 6-Speed Manual back in 2017 with 98, 000 miles on it. Now it has 107, 000 miles on it. I just take it out during the weekends and sometimes to the office. I do work on the M5 as well to keep up with the maintenance. The big ticket items that I had to do after buying the car was replace the Rod Bearings, throttle actuators, and idle actuators. Aside from the small electric gremlins, the car is trouble free. My one advice for future owners is to find the best one with documentations for any work has been done and verify it. Have some money set aside for those maintenance and big ticket items.

I own one, a 2010, the last of 500 produced world wide - fully loaded . Monaco blue with silver stone interior with Dinan exhaust and.yes when it’s under some load that is where the engine shines. You would get faster shifts with traction off where another option shows on the dash (6). In the newer model the window buttons are addressed, but I always find myself pressing the back windows, however it is a nice improvement. Nice review.

I am so grateful and blessed to own this beast and I've owned many M cars older and newer than the E60 M5. I have since moved on to Lamborghini and own a Huracan (V10 forever) and the E60 M5 is the only M car I still have. Also I must say despite the Lambo being a Lambo the E60 M5 somehow feels more special to drive and sounds better too!
My M5 has a custom exhaust with genuine rear section+carbon tips from Akrapovic (they never made a system for the M5, just the M6), Eventuri carbon intakes and the newly released Eventuri full carbon plenum after being their prototype tester for many years and it just sounds fantastic. Fully loaded with the cooling/heated/auto-bolstered seats, extended leather everwhere ie dashboard, doors etc, alcantara roof, E92 style bonnet, LCI lights (easily the best BMW tail lights ever) carbon bits everywhere including a full carbon CSL boot and bonnet from Seibon.
Despite owning it for 7 years and putting over 50K miles on it, still has a BMW warranty on it even with the mods! Absolutely zero expense spared on it.
It truly defines the word 'legend' and I'll never sell it, as Clarkson said "it's the best car I've ever driven". 🙌

I'm definitely going to take care of it, the previous owners did as well and it came with maintenance papers in a folder. Great review, Sam. I also believe this is one of the great Ms, despite all the hatred and reliability issues.
On another note, this was not the first V10 fitted to a car. It was the Dodge Viper with its glorious 8L of displacement and burble.
I was a BMW fan boy in the 80s, 90s, and early 00s (not anymore), and even though I think the E60 M5 is an amazing M car, if I was in the market for an old M5, my money will go for the E39 (and I will always long for the V10 roar…)

I sold it along with my E92 M3, also a low mileage car I bought back in 2019 (62K miles, $22K). I sold the M3 for $37K.
    The dream car.

Just finished up a 1300 mile road trip in my 6speed Dinan S2 e60 m5. Going on 14 years of ownership and just crossed 188,888 miles. Maintenance comes with owning a v10. I’d love to see the money spent on services/maintenance on a VAG v10 at 188,888 miles - probably no different than what I’ve spent. And I love that I can take my grocery getter on the track, baby seat and all, to chase down some Porsches. Poor guy was missing his apexes, looking in his RVM at the big baby hauler, getting bigger and bigger in his RVM. ua-cam.com/video/rzwCjTi4B3U/v-deo.htmlsi=5Vjn9-wAHHXKe3lg

The porn car…

NOPE. Dont do it folks because the repair cost are simply astronomical and you will find these cars sitting with low miles because the computer programmer that bought the car cant afford to fix it. THIS IS ALSO A ROD BEARING FAILURE CAR. Have you ever tried to take one of these cars apart? This thing is a NIGHTMARE in repair cost, and requires a BMWOLOGIST to fix stuff. TOTAL MONEY PIT.

It has aged very well but its not a good looking car, I don't think it ever will be (compared to e39 or other more classic looking BMWs) but it has aged amazing. The V10 is the star of the show though, if the car had anything but a v10 I think it would be forgotten. Id love one but too expensive to maintain. However people are all buyin e9x and more and more talking less about maintenance on those *rod bearings and you are good* but as I learned recently the S65 is the same engine as this but with 2 cyl chopped off so the issues are the same. Shat is not the same is the transmission, the e9x has much better transmission than this.
