This is still the best Gran Turismo or any video game intro I have ever seen.....the buildup and then the action at 1:18.......still gives me chills. This is the only game intro I never skipped, but watched every time I played the game.....just an incredible work of art
Yes, I love that moment but do you remember seeing the graphics on GT3 for the first time? It was an amazing step up and the soundtrack from Feeder was fantastic. I'd like to throw in the first Horizon game as a great intro also, the one with Modestep as the backing. Nothing in recent years comes close to these in my opinion.
@TheSyrinx63 I'll never forget racing and racing and racing until I could finally buy the Castrol Supra. First thing I did was take it on High Speed Ring, and saved the replay. I remember after about 15 years I finally bought every Special Model, and tried them out. RX7 LM handled better than any other car I'd driven on that game, on time trial I got something like 52 seconds on High Speed Ring, way faster than any of my other laps.
Gran Turismo 1 is a great start to the series. It was the most realistic driving game ever for it's time. I do think Gran Turismo 2 though is way better because it has so many more cars and tracks. In fact, 600 cars and 27 tracks as well as incredible graphics means that this was one of the PS1 games that pushed the limits of the hardware. Back in 1999, you've never seen racing games like this, especially on the PS1. I'm super impressed with Polyphony Digital and Sony's efforts at making a realistic driving simulator video game series. Gran Turismo will always have a special place in my heart.
Man... That Dodge Viper is the embodiment of nostalgia for me. I grew up with playstation and ever since I saw that Viper the first time in Gran Turismo, I knew I wanted to drive it. I always painted it red with the white stripes, because red is my favorite color and the stripes looked amazing. I could never win a race in GT with it though (because ACTUAL racing is difficult), always made me so angry, but I kept playing because I loved the car. I absorbed every minute with the racing music playing and I still get chills from it to this day. But it doesn't stop there, when I was about 6, I played GTA III for the first time. At first I thought it was a somewhat okay game since you could take regular boring cars, but driving was super easy, so sure why not play this game? It has cars and you can play with guns too. BUT... GTA III became my favorite game back then when I saw it had THAT SAME Dodge Viper!!! (The Banshee) "No way!!! It's THAT car!!! From Gran Tusimso!!! (O_O)" I thought. "With the same white stripe AND in red" (My favorite color) There it was in the car dealer showroom, behind glass, waiting so beautifully! "Damn it how do you get inside? I WANT IT!!!" The thought of driving anywhere in a cool Dodge Viper without the pressure of losing a race? Heck yes! And so I was determined to get that car, so I started hitting the glass all I could, but it didn't help. ( ._.) Then I tried shooting the glass, but I couldn't hit it because glass isn't a live target (Yup, that's old school GTA for ya!) and it only got me into trouble instead since shooting is scary and the police would arrest me, if the Mafia didn't kill me first for opening fire. +Evgeniy (aka Rageman) Gran Turismo 1 was fucking awesome, truly nailed the physics of the driving experience more than anything before. Oh the memories from that game. Makes me want to load it up now on ePSXE.
Great introduction to one of the most iconic games in time. It changed car racing games and led to a long lineage of Gran Turismo games. Of which I enjoyed Gran Turismo, Gran Turismo 2 and Gran Turismo 4. These were all I needed in my younger years of video game play. I don't game so much anymore more but still have these three as part of my PlayStation 2 gaming set up. Question. Who remembers their first car ever bought as you began your Gran Turismo gaming? Mine was a gray 1992 Honda Prelude. I still have video clips of it from my first driving sessions stored on a memory card 🤗
Best racing game intro EVER. From the music to the cinematics......pure perfection. Everything gels together seamlessly. Add to that this was the first racer of it's kind bringing in such realism. Once you started the game it was so immersive that the pixels would disappear and it was THE REAL DRIVING SIMULATOR. I was never into cars before this. Then I fell in love with the Supra. I couldn't afford a Supra or the insurance with only 2 years driving history so ditched my 1988 Nissan Sunny 1.3 for the closest looking thing which was a 1993 Honda Prelude. Those were happy days. Thanks for uploading and bringing back fond memories
My first experience with this game, I will NEVER forget. It was such a perfect day. Dad picked me up from school early (I usually had to wait an hour or 2 for a bus) Took me to the stores and I saw the game being the only game in the shelve. I wanted it, since my uncle had told me it was great. Dad got it for me. Back home, we put the game in, then the intro came on. And when the car revs up loudly, I was in awe, and my dad reacted with a WOOOOO Man I wish I was a kid in the 90's again
What this game achieved for its time and the experience it delivered is amazing, its difficult to put into words what this intro, what this game makes fans feel. What beautiful game, definitely one of the Best ever. Thank you Sony, thank you Kaz.
1:07 gives me the chills, all the brands, cars, tracks etc packed into this game was incredible for it's time. This really did push the PS1 to it's limit! gran turismo 2 being no exception!
Every time I see this intro, I always get very motivated to go racing. Not only did this game have a solid presentation, but this game truly defined realism for it's time back in 1997. This game literally would say "You've never seen racing games like this." I'm so impressed with the amount of content this game has. But Gran Turismo 2 on the other hand, took it to a whole new level. 600 cars, 27 tracks, all of it fitted onto a PS1 game. Gran Turismo 2 is without a doubt the best racing game on the PS1 and also one of the best racing games of all time. Polyphony Digital and Sony knew what they were doing when it came to making a realistic driving game series.
I was 25, at my first real job(still there!), making good enough money to get a truck, a modest starter home, and a PS1. This intro brings back so many memories. I loved playing this, Colony Wars, Tekken 3, NFL Gameday, Jumping Flash!, and so many other games.
This is the best racing game I've ever played, the music, the drifting even before I knew what drifting was. I did it in the game. (viper was my best drift car)
damn.. I still remember 16 years ago when I got this game for my 10th birthday.. watching this intro for the first time was awesome.. it's still awesome, even after all of these years.. can't believe that was already 16 years ago... damn ..
The memories this intro holds is amazing. Watched it everytime i played the game(which was every day) i remember the dual shock was released at the same time and just blew my mind. Also dod anyone else find the secret 60fps version of one of the night tracks? Great game.
Yep, the dual-shock was a revelation! Would use the left stick to steer and the right for accelerate/brake. At the time it was an incredible experience!
Of course. I guess the name was called hi-fi racing. When I first tried. I was like why the game looked so different now? What is the purpose of this? Years later I learned that it was a demo of 60fps.
Nah, it was all about the Toyota Supra GT at 1:55!! ;) I remember getting so excited every time this booted up though, and being blown away by the graphics on the intro - which still aren't too bad, if a little un-detailed!!!
Jeff Barker lol nagh dude lets be realistic, the graphics are shit.. I was playing forza 4 for a while and a few newer games, and when I went back to played this my eyes got sore lol.. don't get me wrong this is still one of my favourite racing games though
My cousin had this. When i was a little kid, I didn't had money for a console we were very poor. When i saw this. I discovered a whole new world with my innocent fragile mind. GT forever. No matter what racing game i play GT will always be in my heart.
I also had a n64 and a racing game named Top Gear. Check it out. The difference is huge. It was like a super nintendo game. Or basically gt1 was like a ps2 game and top gear a ps1 game
I second that. The level of detail on the cars and tracks and even the car sounds were so incredible in 1998. It wasnt until Sega GT in 2002 that offered a true competitor to the series.
@@dokanyon I also had an N64 at the time but no PS1, and definitely envied Gran Turismo. Top Gear Overdrive was probably the N64 game that came closest, but it was a far cry from the photorealistic models in GT. N64 did a lot of things better than PS1 graphically, but its limited ability to store + render large textures, combined with the aggressive texture dithering, made it hard to achieve anything like the detail of GT's cars. Edit: though I will say that I probably had more fun playing TGO than I would have had playing GT -- more of an arcade racing fan myself.
Best intro ever! Just watching this gives me goosebumps! One of my all time favourite games, me and my brother would stay up all night, getting stoned, taking turns doing a few laps each on the endurance races! Very fond memories!
finally now i know with 100% accuracy that this was the game my friend did not want me to play on his ps1. i should thank him the most mysterious game from my childhood was grand turismo 1 all this time
I've played ALL Gran Turismo games, and i must say that this is bringing me such good memories makes me all emotional! My dad and me got a PS1 for christmas when i was 3 years old and this was our first game that came with the console. We played it days, and days and it never got boring! The Gran Turismo 1 game should be remembered for eternity for it's awesome music! "The Cardigans - My Favourite Game" And Gran Turismo 2 for it's awesome customization! Thumbs up if you agree!
This was with a huge percentage my best time of my life! The life was soooo much better back then!!! Childhood memories!! 7 years 1st grader omg I am missing this time soooo much!!
Man, that JGTC Castrol Supra coming into focus over the first of the vocals at 1:54 still puts the hair up on the back of my neck. Thanks for putting this up. I'd looked for it a while ago.
People too young to remember the game and those too old for gaming have no idea how amazing it was to be an impressionable, 7 year old car enthusiast when this game came out. Christmas of 1998 when I tore the paper off the newly released Playstation Dual Shock and a copy of Gran Turismo will forever be the most thrilling and memorable Christmas of all time.
This game taught me proper racing line before I knew how to drive, and when I finally did get behind the wheel of a real car, I knew exactly what to do.
Oh man the memories, first played this game when i was 5, and i am turning 22 this year. To think that 17 years went by so fast. Still, this gave me the chills. Gran Turismo for life.
back in the day when life was so much simpler. best childhood memories I've had playing this game, along with final fantasy vii, tekkie 3, tomb raider 2. I got a bit emotional at 1:22 when the car starts roaring lol
Still my favorite game ever. Too many emotions: licenses, this intro, megaspeed cup, castrol supra, normal car contest, uk vs japan vs us, the MUSICS (european version), and it is still so fun and challenging to play. This game started my love for cars
This one then GT3 - both good intros. Slow build up to a fast pace and good editing with the visuals. Normally I skip intros but these two always hold my attention.
I know. My PlayStation is still working and I still have the game. I can't believe it's been 20 years. Kazunori was truly ahead of his time. He will go down as a legend in the gaming industry because Gran Turismo is PlayStation's best-selling franchise.
25 YEARS LATER NOW IN VR THANKS TO POLYPHONY DIGITAL AND KAZUNORI YAMAUCHI WE HAVE THIS MASTERPIECE OF VIDEOGAMES. NOW IS THE TIME FOR THE VR ERA. GRAN TURISMO IS A FUNDAMENTAL PART OF PLAYSTATION HISTORY AND WILL CONTINUE TO BE. ENJOY WHILE YOU CAN THIS IS ENTERTAINMENT AT ITS HIGHEST LEVEL AND A METICULOUS ATTENTION TO THE DETAIL, ONLY POSSIBLE THANKS TO JAPONESE CULTURE
Oh man, the memories. I was 7 years old when in 1998 I got this, no idea what I was doing but always ended up in some race lol. All my other PS1 games have got lost but I still have this game, scratched but its priceless to me, wouldnt sell it for a million dollars. What happened to the world? The 90's were amazing. The 00's and the 10's suck balls.
Yes. Yes. Yes. A million times. When this game came out, all other racing games became suitable only for drink coasters on your coffee table. Life changing.
this game was the main fuels to the fire for my passion for cars...so many memories, it almost brings a tear to my eye ... i have both gran turismo 1 and 2 on my phone (android ftw) when i feel the need to relive memories
When you saw this for the first time you were watching history. This changed racing games forever.
Agreed, that was the biggest plot twist in racing games history,im proud to have lived this.
The intro of this game is giving me chills down my arms no other racing game has this intense of an intro except gran turismo
Heck, it even changed the Automotive Industry forever.
While most of the racing games was fully arcade, Gran Turismo and Collin McRae Rally changed the genre completely.

1:22
That fucking ROAR.

*Happy 27th Anniversary To This Masterpiece!* 🎂🥳🏎️🎮
Holy shit so much good memories, this game made my entire childhood, and now, it's the reason I became a car mechanic
1:25 ACTION!
My cousin had this. When i was a little kid, I didn't had money for a console we were very poor.
When i saw this. I discovered a whole new world with my innocent fragile mind.
GT forever. No matter what racing game i play GT will always be in my heart.
These car models were just jaw-dropping back in the day. Nothing else came close.
No other car models beats the insane detail Gran Turismo had
@@dokanyon I also had an N64 at the time but no PS1, and definitely envied Gran Turismo. Top Gear Overdrive was probably the N64 game that came closest, but it was a far cry from the photorealistic models in GT. N64 did a lot of things better than PS1 graphically, but its limited ability to store + render large textures, combined with the aggressive texture dithering, made it hard to achieve anything like the detail of GT's cars.
Edit: though I will say that I probably had more fun playing TGO than I would have had playing GT -- more of an arcade racing fan myself.
a este video lo tengo guardado desde el dia que lo publicaron........ tremendo que buenos recuerdos
Most amazing intro to a game ever. Still not been beaten in my eyes although GT2 came very close
Best intro ever!
Just watching this gives me goosebumps!
One of my all time favourite games, me and my brother would stay up all night, getting stoned, taking turns doing a few laps each on the endurance races!
Very fond memories!
finally now i know with 100% accuracy that this was the game my friend did not want me to play on his ps1.
i should thank him
the most mysterious game from my childhood was grand turismo 1 all this time
I've played ALL Gran Turismo games, and i must say that this is bringing me such good memories makes me all emotional! My dad and me got a PS1 for christmas when i was 3 years old and this was our first game that came with the console. We played it days, and days and it never got boring!
The Gran Turismo 1 game should be remembered for eternity for it's awesome music! "The Cardigans - My Favourite Game"
And Gran Turismo 2 for it's awesome customization! Thumbs up if you agree!
2020 childhood memories
Polyphony is the king of car racing videos. Their knack for finding the right music and editing the right clips is unequalled.
I thought this was so high quality back in the day. Got my dang tears rollin 😢
Thing is that it's still absolutely amazing, considering the ridiculously limited hardware of the PS1! and GT2 was just mind-blowing!
This was with a huge percentage my best time of my life! The life was soooo much better back then!!! Childhood memories!! 7 years 1st grader omg I am missing this time soooo much!!
This intro is awesome, it give me chills every time i watch it
Since I played it in 2001
I used to play this game with my dad, he introduced me to this so long ago
The trees blowing in the wind at the beginning are beyond iconic. Amazing intro
1:21 just gives me everytime chills, damn, i loved to watch the cars as a kid there.
ShinRotary and love my fd cuz its rotary
Que saudades ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Oh man, that takes me back.
We've gotta hit 1 million views right here :)
Man, that JGTC Castrol Supra coming into focus over the first of the vocals at 1:54 still puts the hair up on the back of my neck.
Thanks for putting this up. I'd looked for it a while ago.
1:53 to 2:07 is my favorite part of this intro. Goosebumps all over. '90s nostalgia. Brings a tear to my eye. 😢
1:22 the moment the racing genre on consoles was forever changed.
This game taught me proper racing line before I knew how to drive, and when I finally did get behind the wheel of a real car, I knew exactly what to do.
what is this? I'm crying right now.
;3
Oh man the memories, first played this game when i was 5, and i am turning 22 this year. To think that 17 years went by so fast. Still, this gave me the chills. Gran Turismo for life.
When the memories hit u
😫😌
um dos melhores jogos que já joguei na minha vida
1st ever racing game and best ever.
back in the day when life was so much simpler. best childhood memories I've had playing this game, along with final fantasy vii, tekkie 3, tomb raider 2.
I cried watching this.
And it hurts me not to have ever played this game! :'(
Can't believe it's been 20 years exactly since I played this for the first time
I know. My PlayStation is still working and I still have the game. I can't believe it's been 20 years. Kazunori was truly ahead of his time. He will go down as a legend in the gaming industry because Gran Turismo is PlayStation's best-selling franchise.
25 YEARS LATER NOW IN VR
THANKS TO POLYPHONY DIGITAL AND KAZUNORI YAMAUCHI WE HAVE THIS MASTERPIECE OF VIDEOGAMES.
Jesus this is so beautiful. Its what started my passion for the Toyota Supra all those years ago
I'm glad I still have this game.... Legendary intro!!
1:16 -2:58
this game was the main fuels to the fire for my passion for cars...so many memories, it almost brings a tear to my eye ... i have both gran turismo 1 and 2 on my phone (android ftw) when i feel the need to relive memories
Wiping out had you saying, "DAMMIT"
Everytime
the video is 18 years old and the game is 27 years old for japan and 26 for US/UK Release. Time Fucking Flies!
The 90’s and early 2000’s were the best.
The most underrated of such a racing games of all time Gran Turismo 1 was my 1st ever best to play it but love the cool intro too
