John Morrison I am still impressed, what do you mean? Yeah, graphics have certainly gotten better over the years, but the hardware on the PS1 will always remain the same. This game on that hardware is incredible, without a doubt.
+DimebagVision Hmm I disagree. Gran Turismo 1 was certainly way ahead of it's time and was mind blowing and awesome, but racing games these days have a different gameplay focus in mind. You gotta remember that back in those days online gaming didn't exist so a lot of work went into creating a game that can be fun and exciting to play by yourself, or splitscreen with a friend. Obviously these days with online gaming, the gameplay focus is community based. From being in a lobby racing against random people online to sharing content online. So there's less focus on *single player* gameplay, but just as much hard work and detail gone into creating an exciting game to play using the technology of today. Not only that, but more detail has gone into the cars and tracks themselves too. Aside from the obvious graphics enhancements, there's details like laser-scanned tracks and a hell of a lot of R&D work gone into accurate tyre models, accurate car physics, accurate car sounds that range from the engine sounds themselves, to blow off valves on turbo's, turbo flutter, wastegate noises, backfiring, transmission whine, rev limiter bashing. That said, no disrespect to Gran Turismo 1 as I said it was such a mind blowing game for its time and will be always be a legendary game, but to say the gameplay and details in racing games haven't been rivaled since is utter bollocks.
LOL - GT2 was terrible due to #RubberBandAI - maybe the driving games since GT want the fame and dominance, but plenty since have been better...well, #ForzaMotorsport has...almost as dominant too. Oh, I forgot that the Playstation's driving games haven't improved since GT4 LOL.
The moment i saw this i cried because the great memory's of the game and so i got my old stuff and played on all the GT games i had for hours( its 2AM by the way that's how dedicated i am). Also considering this was made in 1998 by only 5 people these graphics are astonishing. Yeah there not great by today's standards but back then they were worth dying for again and again and again.
You can only see these in the Autumn Ring-Mini and Deep Forest spot races, and sometimes in Arcade Mode, two newer Honda del Sol's, the VGi and the SiR (both have just two headlamps as opposed to the '93 del Sol's four). Both can be purchased from the Honda dealership in the Japanese version, but not in the American game.
I want 10,000 subs for nothing Back in 1997 when this game came out, no game came close to touching these graphics. Gran Turismo led the way for graphics for many many years.
Well, I have 16 gold awards at this point, combined between B and A Licenses. Remember B License - Acceleration and Braking 4? With the Viper? That was hard to get gold on. Trick: After accelerating, let go and get back on the accelerator, thus getting rid of the 'peeling' and accelerating faster; this cuts up to 1.7 seconds OFF.
does anyone with me agree that this game still looks fucking amazing? I realize that it's really heavily pixelated, but it still gets the shape of the cars down nearly perfectly.
I loved playing this game back in the day, I had some friends over one weekend when mom's was out of town and we burned drank and dropped e while playing this, one heck if a weekend. Now I don't get into that stuff anymore but every time I see this game I remember that weekend
Wow ... this just makes me want to dig out my old copy of GT2 now... sure the graphics were a bit rough (this vid is a nice reminder of how far things have come...) but all the cars and tracks are still recognisable, and the physics and menus were somehow better...
@Rkeely To be honest, I think by PS1 standards it is still one of the most graphically impressive games on the system, up there with FFIX and MGS. It doesn't look ugly to me even now, though maybe that's in part because I grew up with it. Even so, I sometimes can't believe technology has reached the stage that modern games are able to look as they do.
This was the first game I have ever played my entire life and it's still my favorite. I'm a Mitsubishi and Toyota driver. :P Sweet drift with the some of these cars especially with the 427 Coupe.
Music in the end (aka starting of Japanese GT1) + remake of it on the GT4 intro, when Ford GT40 was in the wind full of leaves + car lot music from Dodge and From that NSX = CRYING. WHERE THE FK IS THAT WORLD. I WANT IT BACK. AWESOME VIDEO.
Man, look at that body roll, lol! Brings back memories - I wanted that 427 Corvette so much when I played simulation mode. And hahaha at the licenses with wheels, took me a sec to figure out what that was. Does it work with with anything with a 3d model in the game?
the song at the end. i think its called moon over the castle or something like that reminds me of back to shalla bal in that its just a long guitar solo. its even got an 80s sounding guitar.
Cheers for Uploading! Its strange that they would make some cars only available in Arcade mode and some only available in the Japanese Version. BTW I loled at the last few, imagine a giant License going round a track...

I assure you that in at least GT4 (the game I did the math in) that you are going the speed you are going. I used the test track to test this because the test track has markers for every 100 meters, these markers are to scale to the size of the cars. Then I took a car and went through a couple check points, there was 400 meters between these two check point, when I went through them it gave me the time I went though them, from this I figured out kph, which matched the kph the car was going.
