I think it’s due to the expanding field of view as you go faster and faster. Greater fov = more things visible = more information to process on screen = fast feeling!

I think the biggest factor for the sense of speed is the detail of the environment around the car. It’s a lot more authentic if there are dense patches of grass, flowers, plants and trash flying past you.
In general I think Forza franchise captures how wild i should be to drive at that insane speed. Gran Turismo I think didnt evolve much, but GT7 stepped up a lot when it comes to the feeling of speed. Drive Escudo on GT2 for the first time was a rite of passage, that feeling of discovering a new good car is something that the newer games never had like in GT2.
I’m not sure if you know, but if you keep the Escudo Pikes for more than an year game-save in Gran Turismo 2, it will have an insane rear speed that goes similarly than the Bonus part in the end, but on PS1 as well.
When every older NFS game allow you to reach 400 km/h but not in Heat and Unbound. Hope the upcoming NFS 2025 will let us reach 400 km/h at least with wide range of hypercars especially 300 mph cars.

My PC has around 500 GB SSD and 3 TB HD. Most games are installed on the HD. And I don't have all the games installed at the same time. Small games and stuff like NFS or Forza is always installed but stuff like Project Cars, Automobilista or the last two Grid games I only install when I want to record something there. The fan car was alright, I couldn't turn it fast enough on S turns, but you could chuck that to skill issue and the joystick not being responsive enough. But the Tomahawk X, god damn that thing was a nightmare. It was up to sheer luck if the thing was going to deploy the air brakes or not before a turn. Trying to drive that thing fast in a track that had anything resembling a corner was nightmare fuel
It's just a compilation, not a ranking. The games are sorted by age. I was considering Burnout Paradise when I made the first of these videos but unfortunately that game doesn't actually have a speedometer. You are obviously going quite fast there but the game doesn't tell you how fast exactly. With the other Burnout games I am not very familiar but I asked a friend about them and he said that you can't normally reach 400 there.
