Master locks are the ones that are recommended for beginners. My first lock was a heavy duty waterproof lock from Master.
I should point out that by “my first lock” I mean the first one I picked.
I have master locks that I can pick in under 5 seconds. I'd say Master is one of the worst lock brands

"Master is a pretty reputable brand" unfortunately that is a misconception, their locks are very easy to pick, to the point that their locks are known as beginner practice locks
I have two master locks and they feel like a block of steel and have worked great the past years
@@Emiellivegamernl What I was talking about was the picking resistance, as far as durability goes some of them can be quite decent, I'm happy they haven't failed you
Your just being a smart arse at this point 🤣😂
also, for that master lock you could just use 2 wrenches(the ones for hex nuts) and use the to break the lock.
@LlamaBoi the one I have is a bit harder tho, it's a key lock with a 6 pin and impossible to break with a sletch hamer

Mike: "I took this cheap lock to pull it apart"
*Whips out the ones our school give us which they claim is very expensive...
Well, cheap and expensive are relative term. As a child my parents called some candy "expensive" and told me the used car we bought was "cheap". Since I thought those were absolute term, I was sure the candy was much more worth than the car. In my eyes this was obviously true ;-)
One lock isn't very expensive, but buying locks for every locker in a school is expensive
Literally same ahah
Hans Woast who asked?
@@hanswoast7 woah guys calm down I thought it was quite a good story lol
I started watching Lockpinglawyer at some point last year and I got inspired to get a lockpick-set and a bunch of padlocks to play with. Then I thought "wait.. I use a padlock on the door housing my car tires and stuff in storage next to my parked car". So I try my (by now) ok skills at picking to test how easy it was to defeat and I got in after only 5 seconds, several times in a row. So I replaced that lock with the one lock in my ever-growing padlock-collection that I can't pick no matter what I do. Now I feel my stuff are more secure. That's one use for this kind of hobby.

Better locks will also have false gates.
How do false gates work?
@@jonathandunlop6342 presumably it's an indent that doesn't go all the way through.
Jonathan Dunlop to build on what sabelch said, they give the “feel” of getting the right number without actually giving the right number, so using the described method of breaking the lock is significantly harder, if possible at all.
@@sabelch they may also be all the way through, but too narrow to allow the lock to open.
@@jonathandunlop6342 You get a similar thing with pin and tumbler locks too (if you know how they work). Normally, you raise a pin until it seems to click into place. However, some pins are narrowed at the middle so they're shaped like the letter I (with bars), i.e. a narrow cylinder with wider disks at the top and bottom. These mean it feels like the pin is in place, but they're actually locked out of place.

LPL is obviously insanely good picker, but these combination locks don't require much skill. It's so easy that even beginner can do it pretty quickly, just need to know what to do. If Mike had been watching LPL videos he could have done this in a minute or two. With other lock types it's a different story though, they require practice...

Everyone in the comment section are ambassadors of LockPickingLawyer
I was curious about learning how to pick locks after watching LPL, and ended up finding out that one of our home door locks was surprisingly easy to get through. My dad shared a saying with me then, and I think it's an important one to keep in mind: "Locks only keep honest people out." There's really no lock that can keep 100% of people out 100% of the time. Anyone who puts their mind to it can generally get through any commercially available lock.
There are locks that you can open in under a minute with an hour of training and there are locks where even very skilled pickers need a minute in a controlled ergonomic setting. When you use the latter, bicycle thieves ressort to anglegrinders.
I learned this as a kid on the schoolyard, breaking combination bike locks. Everybody could do it, it really is kid's play!

Mike: this is day one, hour zero
Me: OMG YAS FINALLY
The lock on your bike is a really easy lock. The older combination locks that require a key to change could be bypassed. The newer locks like the one you have that don't require a key can not be bypassed. Where as the old you can stick a small thin tool into the body and manipulate the locking mechanism by pushing it up. The newer ones changed that in that the mechanism must push down against the combination. To try and harden the lock against decoding by using the knife to find the gates they added false gates. However the major flaw with that design is that they made the true gates feel drastically different from the false gates. Meaning you can decode those locks without tools. Masterlock is an odd company. Most locks are not very good or have a good lock body. You might get a lock from them with a good body but not a good lock cylinder or vice versa. They make great practice locks if you want to learn how to pick or decode. Same goes with Kwikset keys that you find on residential all over the US. Really easy to pick. Especially with hard tension. Amateurs and learn them rather quickly.
