Such good information. I was nodding along the entire time- I came to many of these same decisions during this year and happily purged those offenders- looking at you, 3/4 sleeves and waterfall cardigans. When I look back, I realize I bought those items when I'd started a job in a workplace that, upon reflection, embodies frump- and I went merrily along. They never felt authentic to me, and now they are gone. You are such a fresh and welcome voice, and I appreciate all the effort you take to share your learnings and experience with us- don't change a thing! Merry Christmas, Kristen- looking forward to hearing more greatness in the new year!
Great advice here. This kind of video can't be easy to put out there but you managed to deliver in an informative, respectful, motivating, non judgemental way. One of the many reasons i love your videos. So well done! 🙌
Thank you so much. I had several requests and I was hesitant to address this topic because it can be so sticky. I do really believe that we can wear anything we want as long as we do it with intention. These are just some things that can create a frumpy overall look if not handled well. I appreciate you and your support. 💕
Great content. I however will still wear my Capri length pants in the summer. I live in the outdoors and love hiking and being outside. I have really looked in the mirror and feel they are ok. I like to half tuck my tops, try to wear some light jewelry, and sandals either outdoor or nicer depending on where I am going. Shorts really are no longer my friend on my 68 year old legs. My legs used to be my best feature and at 5'10" wearing capris to just below the knee where the calf begins to narrow do not chop me off. If I look older then so be it. I think those that are shorter with thicker legs can look chopped off with Capri length. I think paying attention to our body shape is also key to not looking frumpy. Thanks for another inspiring video with some great content.
Hello Ami- I love this! Thank you for your honest, thoughtful comment. The key is knowing what YOU love and rocking it! I have no doubt that your capris look great! 🙌
I totally agree. I am only 5’ 2” but with a short torso and long legs. I am 77 and think I will continue to wear capris as my legs are slim and my capris don’t hit at any thick part of my legs.
As a 58 year old who loves fashion, I am so pleased and excited that I’ve just discovered your channel! I’ve learned so much just watching a couple of videos and I’m looking forward to watching more as I find you very inspiring and relatable so thank you!
Yay! Welcome. I'm so glad you're here. I appreciate you and your kind words. Please let me know if there are any topics you'd like me to cover in future videos. 🥰
I’d like to add that especially if you’re wearing clothes with cool tones, make sure your gray hair isn’t yellowing. Also with pearls, your teeth must be at least as white as the pearls. Both things can be incredibly aging.
So much great, great, great advice! I love it. Something for everyone. I certainly found several useful tips that I’ll try to implement into my wardrobe. Thank you!
This was really helpful to me. I’m 71 and recently left a farm/outdoor lifestyle and moved to a suburban area. I’m revamping my wardrobe, sewing most of my clothes. I had saved a few timeless favorite “office” pieces I might wear more (no twin sets, though I do remember them!) but my needs now are still casual for the most part. I especially appreciated your jewelry update! I’m not a super trend watcher but my daughters and granddaughters help me out. -Addie
Love sneakers! 68 years old and I wear sneakers with everything. They really make me feel more youthful. I have many different pairs, different styles, different colors. Lots of good advice here. Wider leg jeans, yes!
Great tips on hair. Avoid “helmet” hair at all costs. That round hair silhouette. I love yours. I have grey too and often let my curls (more waves) loose or blow dry to a semi straight style. When I was a younger woman my hair was everything - red and curly. It took me a while to get that back post menopause. It’s now grey and less curly but I really enjoy it again. And the big necklace thing - I have a large box to give away. It’s taken me a while to find my style again after leaving corporate life and the menopause. I think I’m getting there. Much more relaxed but clean lines.
The tips in this are fabulous! Thank you. I’ve reclaimed some good quality clothes in my “donate pile” and combined them in new ways. Now ask myself before I dress for anything “Does wearing this make me feel good?”
I am so happy to come across your channel! I also live in the Denver area and it is so great to get style advice from someone who truly understands layering and all season jackets and sweaters! You are very inspiring…I am 65 years old and have found it so difficult to maintain the “sharp and put together” vibe I’ve always been known for. I stay up with the styles and follow a lot of Vloggers who talk about style for the over 50 woman. Your take makes the most sense. Things that once worked, be it work outfits, or leisure wear just don’t work for my older-wiser woman vibe I crave. Maybe I’ll have to hit you up for a coffee date sometime!
Hello! Thanks so much for your comment and kind words. ☺️ As you've maybe seen in newer videos, I now live in SLC. I do return to Denver regularly because my son still lives there. 💕
Love your videos and this one was another great one. You have helped me to thrift more successfully with your tips. Merry Christmas and I am looking forward to more great videos in 2023.
Hi Kristen, I enjoy your channel so much. I want to wish you and your family a merry Xmas and all the best for 2023. I am already looking forward to your videos in 2023. Tschau Petra
Hello- Thanks for your comment. I fully support 3/4 sleeves if they feel authentic for you. There are exceptions to every 'rule'. And I try not to dish out many 'rules' as I feel style is very personal. In my experience, many women wear 3/4 length sleeves without intention or without deciding that they actually like how they look and feel in them. Happy 2023! 💝
Thank you! Have needed & enjoyed this information as I bake this morning and great to listen to while walking or relaxing with my coffee! I didn’t need photos, just help! 😊 At 68 I still love ‘dressing’ our homes and hate (struggle) trying to dress myself🫤
I hope your baking went well! Thank you for your kind comment. My channel has evolved over the years and I know this video is a bit difficult to follow because of the many explanations and no photos. Thank you for allowing me to join your day! 💞
Hi Kristen, I can attest to sneakers. You convinced me to add a pair to my wardrobe; I was skeptical at first, as you know, but I wore them more than I ever thought I would this past winter and spring. So, thank you for that! Now the summer is in full swing, I am editing my closet for the season. Here is a question. What do you think about culottes? Not those wide-leg above the ankle length pants, but I am thinking shorter. I don’t like wearing shorts any more. I do have several pairs of wide-leg linen pants that I thought would be good for the summer, but they look too elevated (maybe this is only my limited mindset!) and don’t reach for them on a regular basis. That’s why I started wondering about a pair of culottes. Always enjoy your videos! Thank you.
Hello, my friend! You are a gold star, white sneaker student!! I love how willing you were to give them a try and I love how they've become an authentic part of your outfits. Yes, I do think culottes could be a nice addition to your wardrobe. Basically, a shorter version of your wide-leg pants. Feel free to share what you're finding inside your virtual closet and I'll give you my thoughts! 🩷
Thank you for all your useful videos. About attitude and posture: I hope you have some advice. When we get older, we are not super fit any more, and are often heavier than we like to be. And accordingly, which is a sad fact, our breasts sag. We need a bra. And does the bra make us stand upright and make us beautiful? Oh, no. It presses the shoulders forward, bends the neck and ruins the whole posture. What should we look for, how should the shape of it be? What about the straps? Close to the neck or apart from it? Crossing at the back of the neck? What about the cups? Do you talk about this in one of your videos, and if so, in which one is it?
And I love 3/4 sleeves because for so many years, before “tall” clothing was widely available & more affordable, I could push up too-short sleeves and look intentional with my long arms 😊. Got used to the feel and look and now prefer it unless it’s really cold out!
I believe everyone should wear what works for them. It sounds like you have found styles and patterns that make you feel good when you get dressed. That's what it's all about.
Living in a colder climate, and having sweaty feet😂 i so disagree with the shorter version of pants. Having socks show is not a great look, and being petite, I want my legs look as Long as possible
I have never felt at ease in my body. Recently my father lived with me and then passed. Also my son and his 3 children lived with me and now moved out without seeing me. I gained weight and now my clothes don’t fit. 😢
Great question!! I was remiss for not including skirts and dresses!! I think skirts and dresses can be super modern and stylish. It's usually a matter of keeping the look current. For example, if the dress style is reminiscent of a 1950's house dress, I'd pair it with sneakers or booties to keep it current. Or wear a classic shaped skirt with a t-shirt or chunky sweater instead of a blouse. Thank for calling this oversight to my attention. ☺️
Really like your videos and the content is great. But I am searching for folks who don't reinforce ageism with words like old lady and youthful. I think words like modern and dated work really well. Essentially I am looking for tips on how to dress in a way that makes me feel good - not to be younger or avoid looking like an "old maid".
A 30 minute video on a "visual" topic with zero examples (pictures). If you're referring people to other social media content for examples then I think this is not ideal...
Hi Leslie- Thanks for your comment. My video style is different from other stylists on UA-cam. I choose to share my thoughts and ideas without images. It's an intention decision... I don't want to 'influence' viewers to dress like anyone else. My goal is to plant a seed so that you can determine your own incredible personal style using the tools and techniques that work for you. Have an awesome day! ☺️
This is all too much work. I wear what I have and like. I wear mostly thrift store and consignment store clothing. Mostly solids. I often feel frumpy and outdated, but, oh well. Life is too short and too busy to worry about clothing styles.
I’m sorry to say, but I find you talk too much and too long to where it’s so boring. I wanted to turn the channel. Please stop talking and get down to business before you lose everyone. Thank you.
Need to insert picture examples
It would be helpful if you could put up pictures of what you descripe

BTW, I forgot to mention i like 3/4 sleeves because everything is long on me.

Hi Laura- Thank you for your comment! I also choose sneakers over other shoes most days... and often with wide leg denim! Happy New Year! 💖
This was very hard to follow. I unfortunately couldn’t visualize what you were talking about.

I appreciate the dialogue.
The advice to stop wearing everything fitted resonated with me! I’m going to look at my outfits with this in mind.

Hello, Christine-

Once again, thanks for your thoughts. Some of my stuff is definitely in the frumpy range🤣
Love your hair
Thank you! Hormones for the win!

Fabulous!
May I suggest visual aides? No one likes to just see people speak 😖 Great content though!
I was happy just hearing her speak.
I agree too much talking and not enough showing while you are talking. I lose all attention to the video.
I don't mind at all just seeing people speak. But some people can't visualise - this is what you mean.
I was happy with just words. Pictures stop it being general.

I abhor 3/4 sleeves. Whomever came up with that idea should have their likeness imprinted on a dart board! 😆
😂 As you can tell, I feel pretty much the same!!
And I love 3/4 sleeves because for so many years, before “tall” clothing was widely available & more affordable, I could push up too-short sleeves and look intentional with my long arms 😊. Got used to the feel and look and now prefer it unless it’s really cold out!

Hi Michele-
Thank you... so much!! ☺️
I'm a picture person & need examples.
I wear patterned Tshirts to hide my big bussoms. 3/4 sleeves to hide my flabby arms.
I believe everyone should wear what works for them. It sounds like you have found styles and patterns that make you feel good when you get dressed. That's what it's all about.

Wow, great advice! New subscriber here ❤
Welcome!! Thank you!!
What about skirts or dressss??
Great question!! I was remiss for not including skirts and dresses!! I think skirts and dresses can be super modern and stylish. It's usually a matter of keeping the look current. Great information! Simple ways to really update what we already have in our closets, thanks!
Great content, but too long if you don't show any examples. Pictures please of don'ts and examples of do's
