Hi Geoff. I enjoyed seeing your great Begonia collection. They are one of my favourite plant families and as is always the case, I wish I had more space to have a few more. Thanks for the "show and tell". I'll take more of these types of videos if you have the time to make them.
Hi Geoff, I noticed that King sundew is getting HUGE! Look at those leaves! I've been propagating the heck out of my Autumn ember, I have around 6 of them now! Love those colors!
Yeah it’s about 30cm long now in the leaf. It took a repot to do it - the fresher moss seems to have done the trick. And this autumn I’ll have a sizeable specimen of autumn ember in the house! Just need to sort the lighting issue in the greenhouse next.
I enjoyed Watching😌🤲💞The begonias look full and healthy with good colour. I can grow begonias only if I hide them away on the North side of the garden in full shade. I know that most of my orchids like to stay clear of any direct sunshine, so your greenhouse is actually ideal for begonias. I only see begonias as beautiful as yours freshly delivered in my local nursery🥰🤲💞
Fun video - as soon as i saw your Corallina i jumped online to see if i could find one (despite horrible luck with begonias - the only one that has survived and is now huge is my Marmaduke) - apparently that pink coloring of the leaves must be because of low light conditions - could no find a single picture online with pink leaves
🤣 yeah I’ve accidentally improved it with my poor care! I do actually expect it’ll lose those pink leaves despite the attractiveness. Will be interesting to see what it does next in the better, but still not great, light conditions of the greenhouse.
.. I love my Begonia Coralina ☺️ I've got my mother plant in my living room, west facing but shaded by the upstairs balcony, and a cutting to root that also decided to bloom in an east facing window.. They are both blooming and growing like weeds.. The mother plant is almost as tall as me (162 cm).. .. There's something about cane Begonias that I just can't resist, and I just love them.. Only I wish that I had more of them..
Beautiful plants, recently I'm putting my attention on ph of the soil of my plants; now I ask to you, according to your experience, wich is the best value of soil ph for begonia rex ?
Generally Begonias are recommended to be at 5.5 to 6.5, which is the norm for many plants like orchids for example. That’s the ph that they can take up the most nutrients but fortunately it’s also the ph range of most multi purpose composts! So in most cases, that range is already met. But also like with orchids, it’s why they need a repot every so often as potted media increasingly moves towards the more acidic numbers over time.
Question. I have 2 Gryphons that I’ve had for a couple years. They live on my north facing porch in summer, but when I move it in it loses all its leaves, which I expect, but when it starts to grow new leaves they get soft at the stems and fall off. Is there anything I can do to stop that from happening?
Sounds like possibly a low temperature combined with high humidity issue. Mine also has issues with rot early in the season when I’ve got those conditions I’ve described in the greenhouse. You can help alleviate it (if you can’t raise the temperatures) by increasing ventilation and/or light levels.
No - what I do when that happens is to find the lowest potential bud on one stem and prune down to it. Once the new bud starts to come into leaf, do the same with all the other leggy stems. You can do this process indefinitely to continually renew your plants. If you prune right to the base, below any potential buds, then you risk losing the plant. Hope that helps.
I just bought a greenhouse and live i minnesota usa. Mai ly to grow vegetables and flowers food and plant's both being expensive andow variety in my area. Looks like we have similar climates. I am so novice about my new hobby. Now i want begonias. They are all so unique. I will be soaking up as much knowledge as possible. Any get started right advice onstarting a green house. Anyone? Biggest mistakes?
Yeah that's the way it goes for most of us - buy a greenhouse for tomatoes then before you know it, you're trying to grow all sorts of things that don't want to grow in your climate 😂. My first bit of advice woul be, try to decide what you want to grow and then what you want the climate to be like in your greenhouse. Because if your climate is like ours, you'll need to spend a lot of time and effort sorting your insulation out first, before you begin stocking with plants. Much easier that way. I have whole playlists on bubble-wrap insulation, but the most efficient by far has been the bubble-foil insulation I installed last year. I'll link to the full playlist so you can find out about both methods. Good luck! ua-cam.com/play/PLQKwmNwb1T5CfkGDVQxzVBqSY-jwRN7Ts.html&si=Js0sUNkVw3_tRdDW
It's never really caught my eye - other than the obvious plethora of photos showing the iridescence. When it's not doing its thing, it looks rather drab IMO. Although I wouldn't be against giving it a try - especially seeing as its care requirements appear to fit my conditions rather well. Do you have it? To be honest I'd still love to get Beg. chlorosticta - but prices are silly and the last time I spent a fortune on one of these things, the plant was so small it didn't survive the postage.
Begonias paradise. Thanks.

Hi, Geoff! Those Begonias are absolutely stunning! Congratulations! I wish we had such a variety over here.😊
Thanks. There are so many lovely ‘must haves’ out there.
Wow Geoff , the autumn ember is really coming into its own in your care ! Beautiful. That coralina is stunning. As is the black night .
Thanks! There are so many yet to buy...🤷♂️🤣 I'd still give my right arm for a Beg. chlorosticta!

Yes it does seem that they thrive in there without much input from me! That's probably why I like them so much...😂
I never ever seen like this unique collection thanks for sharing the video ❤ love from India
My pleasure 😊 I'm pleased you enjoyed it.

Your collection is AMAZING. I've got masoniana rock and a still spikeless ferox!
Thanks! Didn't actually realise I had so many because of the plants in the house.🤷♂️

Sounds great! You must have some good conditions in your living room. I aspire to get mine growing like yours!
I bought begonia black knight purely because i saw it on your channel lol. I now have two 😂 i just love it and it seems hardier than other rexes
Yeah it's pretty tough especially through winter.

Hi what is your soil mix?
For Begonias I simply use a general purpose compost with added perlite. In my conditions they do just fine in that.
My begonia rex is starting to get pretty tall bare woody stems. What do I do when this happens? Should I bury the stem in a deeper pot?
No - what I do when that happens is to find the lowest potential bud on one stem and prune down to it. Once the new bud starts to come into leaf, do the same with all the other leggy stems. You're still missing Begonia pavonia, tsk tsk.😛

@@Grow_Up_Man55 I'd have to set something special up to grow it, and given what it costs here, I'd be mad if it died.
