      Also Alex I noticed your hand in hand is the only way to land poster (was it your wife bought it for you?) behind you is getting more and more cramped up lol, may I suggest taking the glass out of the frame to reduce the glare then maybe you could Mount it more to centre

    Psytalla horrida really aren't that hard to keep. I have some, and they are awesome. Just keep them slightly moist - more moist if you want babies. High enough mostly vertical cork bark is important, as in all assassin bugs. They hang from there when molting. Their molting is spectacular. They are the most radiant red all over when freshly molted.

      Awesome! Thank you. I like to hear that. I know some people that have not been successful with them and I've heard from several sources that the white spot tend to do better and are less difficult to keep. I should be getting some P. horrida in the Spring so I'm hoping I can get them to do well. :)

    If u isolate the ones (rollie-pollies)that u like the most (ie: a few with the same marks or a lighter color ect). U can make ur own variations and call them the same name then ur own name inside the "_".

    What substrate mixture do you use for your isopods? i'm sure you covered it an earlier video, I ordered 10x Porcellio scaber
    -Common Isopods with a tarantula order I have them on a mixture for tarantulas they seem to be doing well lots of babies.

    • @TarantulaHaven
      @TarantulaHaven  3 роки тому +2

      I use a combination of sphagnum peat, top soil, vermiculite, with sphagnum, and orchid bark mixed in. I also throw in some wood pellets for added compost. I keep one side moist with sphagnum moss and the other side relatively dry so they can self regulate their humidity.

    Pardon my ignorance but, what do Isopods eat? Is it just little bits of vegetables etc??

    • @TarantulaHaven
      @TarantulaHaven  3 роки тому +2

      Yes, they eat detritus, leaf litter, decaying wood, bits of vegetable matter, but they will also eat calcium like bits of cuttlebone and I even give them snake skin sheds. And they also like a little protein so I give them freeze-dried sardines as well.

      @@TarantulaHaven Alex, I have seen a few people keeping them but seeing your little jellybeans really made me think my little boy might enjoy these? Good info, thanks!

    • @TarantulaHaven
      @TarantulaHaven  3 роки тому +2

      @@philtrevis I would highly recommend them for young children. They seem to love rolly-polies anyway. There are some easy species to keep like the powder blues, powder oranges, dairy cows. The zebras are also pretty easy. All of these have been doing great for me and breeding like crazy. They’re fun to watch. You wouldn’t think that these little bugs would have so much personalities but it’s fun to watch their little interactions and feeding time is fun.

    I really like the assassin bug/leaf footed bugs I've heard that they're poop and bite can cause heart problems but no one in the hobby addresses it or wears gloves when handling them. Is it even true? They are in the same family as the kissing bug which it is true for, I'm just curious what's real what's myth

    • @TarantulaHaven
      @TarantulaHaven  3 роки тому

      I've never had the experience. I've seen people handle them without consequence. I think it's when you accidentally put your hand one one like from lifting a piece of cork bark and not realizing its there that you can run the risk of a bite. I've never witnessed one spitting but I've read that they can do it with great accuracy and usually go for the eyes. I don't wish to experience any of that. XD
