I'm just gonna drop in here with some pointless genre talk that nobody wanted or asked for because I'm bored at work. In some ways they kind of are prog rock but it depends on which definition you go with. If you see it purely as about experimenting and pushing the boundaries of rock music then they clearly fit right in and I'd say that's what the genre was at its inception. However, since the genre is now fairly old it's less about experimentation or pushing boundaries and more about how similar a band sounds to the already established prog rock bands like Pink Floyd or King Crimson. In that sense, they don't really qualify. I'd play it safe and just call them experimental or something, that's a lot more all-encompassing and less likely to piss off genre purists.
so after years listening to this song finally realized something clever: thom and ed's duet always converge on the same note on the word "makes." that would be the equal sign!
Holy shit dude if that was actually what they were thinking, thats genius, really. Im hoping radiohead were/are that genius to do stuff like that, but anyway that was really nice spotted also
This by far is probably one of the best examples of crowd manipulation I've seen. Thom knew that 95 percent of the people in the audience were going to keep clapping in 4/4 when the band starts the song in 7/4.
It's not really clapping in 4/4, it's just clapping to every beat. More natural than skipping one. Thom suggested that so they could just not think about the time signature but it still threw them off
yeah refrains and verses should come back and repeat a couple times in every song so that you have enough time to get tired of it before it ends, all music should be made the same way. and there should always be a massive drop somewhere and leonardo aviccii should rule the world.
Benjamin Bergström XDDD i was believing in what you were saying, at first yeah i was thinking about the time of the songs, and in fact maybe the shortests songs are the best
Funny thing is what I really love about is that it's short, intensive and leaves you wanting more once it's over :P I think that's what's charming about it!
Magnus Rolandsson yeah! like raining blood by slayer, not the same type of music but you know it's the same construction of the song, very short but very powerful...

+AtlanticSpamHammer i agree. Httt was pretty politically influenced. as is burn the witch if it really is about climate change, which i believe to be true. every album is a reinvention of the band. i think AMSP will really flurish if a "from the basement" is released, or when the tour stars. If you’re looking for Radiohead songs that rock, there’s an albums worth of b sides from the Bends (Killer Cars, Maquiladora, The Trickster,) and the same for Pablo Honey (Inside My Head and Pop Is Dead especially) and same for OKC, (Polyethylene Palo Alto and Pearly are so much like what “the bends 2” would’ve been). I really don’t get why people complain about them not having enough rock songs if you’re aware of all the none album tracks they have from that 1992-1998 period. Asking them to go back to that sound now is kinda crazy. I still can’t believe In Rainbows is nearly 15 years old. I was lucky enough to have older “cool” friends who saw them on their first US tour, and basically bullied me into going to see them on the bends tour in 1995 (I was 15, but already playing in a crappy band and getting into the local DIY scene). They were SO CRAZY good. Maybe 200 kids there, they rocked out. So I get why people would like to see that side of Radiohead again, but to REALLY see it, you’d need a time machine. As much as I loved it when they played “the bends” on the AMSP tour, it wasn’t the same as them as pre-fame hungry 20 somethings in a club so small I could’ve untied Thom’s shoelace.
I was there and remember getting put off by people not counting in 7! It was funny because everyone had that moment where they started to stop clapping to work out what was going wrong.
