Fix Broken Tow/Haul Button on Chevrolet Silverado

- The tow/haul button commonly stops working on the 1999-2006 model Chevrolet Silverados. Over time of using the shift lever, the shift interlock cable severs the tow/haul mode cable and the button stops working.
You can order a replacement shift lever which comes with a cable that you just clip/plug in, but I'm going to show you a quick fix to get it working now! - Авто та транспорт
Holy crap last time I looked this up it was 150 bucks and a sucks to be you but your video just let me fix it myself for free and in 15 minutes. Not as pretty as yours but since I bought my truck this is working for the first time. Thanks for uploading.

awesome video, my tow button has been acting goofy for a year and this morning it quit while towing my dump trailer. i found this video and it took me about 30 minutes to fix it, most of that was fighting interior plastic parts and trying not to break anything. i did not use butt splices, i used weather proof phone line button splices since i had them and they are full of anti corrosive goop. works great, thanks

I did this exactly how you did and after a few attempts I ran out of wire. I only need like another cm. What would you suggest ?
Ack! It's so close...1cm 🙁 If you have any space you could throw some solder on there and use electric tape. If you don't have room or don't want to bother with that then it's probably best to buy the replacement shifter that comes with a new cable. Hope that helps!
@@lmsdiy you think I could buy extra cable anywhere if you stretch as far as it goes it’s about 1 cm left and it won’t hold. It would if it’s down in drive lol

So did you ever end up with a dead battery because of shorted wire in there? Or tow haul stuck on After charging battery ?
No dead battery. The severed wiring didn't drain the battery, it just prevents the use of the tow/haul switch.
Haven't seen the tow/haul being stuck on either.
Any ideas why my towhaul mode don’t engage? Light comes on but doesn’t do anything.
Let me turn the question around a bit to get more info. What are you expecting it to do that it isn't?
@@lmsdiy shift down for when I roll race. That way I don’t have to lower down manually.
@user-tm8vu5ow9q mine wasn’t working because my tuner had it off. Than I got with him and he started to get it going to my liking for roll racing.
Is tow / haul the same as overdrive?
No. Definitely different features with almost opposite purposes and opposite effects on fuel economy. 🙂
Tow/Haul is the exact opposite of overdrive, it is like turning off overdrive
Does it turn off automatically
Yes, when you shut off the engine. You will have to enable it again after you start the engine each time.

@@lmsdiy I'm probably going to use Electrical tape and call it fine but how did you get that plastic piece off on the bottom
@@yeeyeemax8131 electrical tape will work fine for a while. The plastic on the bottom of the steering column has clips on both sides holding it to the top plastic piece. Some trucks have a couple of screws underneath as well. If yours does, unscrew those first and then use a flathead screwdriver or interior panel tool to separate the bottom half from the top and pull it down.
