Great video! Suburban has no valves that restrict flow to heater core. Coolant flows constantly to the core - only the blend door directs whether the heat goes into the cabin it is vented to the exterior.
Love your videos, and came here when I was looking to find the radiator drain plug location, but this video left me a little unclear. The rest of the information was terrific, guess it was the tough angle from the underside of the truck.. After popping the hood and seeing the drain hose on the side of the radiator, I found the drain plug right beside it. Perhaps there are different configurations across all the gm models, but for my 01 Sierra, this was definitely a job best done from on top of the radiator.. Easy access, great visibility, no jacks/stands, crawling around on your back... Anyway, I Still love y'all and appreciate all the videos that have been so helpful with my 01 GMC.
Is there a drain plug in the engine block so that nearly all the coolant can be drained? Draining from the radiator or disconnecting the radiator hose will not drain out nearly all the coolant.
You guys teach me so much. Didn't know to run the heater. I put a larger radiator in my 2000 1500 silverado and new resi tank. I'm going to buy Preston dexcool 50/50 mixed. Looks like you put 2.5 gallons in, started the engine, and topped it off with 1 more gallon. So I should buy 4 gallons of 50/50? Thanks!
does this apply to GMT800 models with auxillary rear heating systems? I changed a few hoses, refilled my coolant, and now I lose heat any time I go up or down hills.
My 2004 Tahoe didn’t have a drain plug. Easy remedy tho. Slide yourself under car toward the passenger side and locate the lower radiator hose (about two inches thick and squishy). Loosen clamp and pull off hose. Water will come gushing out.
You can remove the hose from above as well. That’s how I did it. No need to get under it and get coolant all over you. Unless you’re into that sorta thing!
After replacing my radiator on 2002 Suburban coolant temp will not raise to normal operating temp. Put in two new termostats, didnt fix it. Is that small hose going from radiator to reservoir suppose to have fluid coming out of it all the time?
I have been doing this I'm now wondering if my new thermostat is stuck I lose no coolant when running up to temp but it does take in a good amount before I run it
Thank you for this video! I'll make sure to take my time to bleed my system the right way. So now a sad story. I took my car to a well-known shop because I wanted to make sure my flush was done right and also save me some time. It was weeks after use that I started to hear a bubbling sound from my dash on and off. Wouldn't you know it, my car overheated. So frustrating. Once again, shop that starts with an F ends with an E let me down. I'll just continue to do my own repairs and maintenance.
I never let shops do anything I can do after I've seen even the good ones mis steps and charge me premium its Unreal the shotty service techs out there that are so distracted with too many jobs. What if when I am filling it, the truck over heats the thermo doesnt open and the level of coolant bubbles over the over flow? but the thermo still hasnt opened, and by the way it is a bran new thermo, I just put it in, it is part of the housing so I cant even put the housing back with no thermo in it, I have to put it together with the thermo in place.
My 2003 Chevy silverado super sport does not have a valve to drain the radiator. It had the place to put a drain hose, but no turn handle to turn the drain off and on. It’s just a hole. How do I drain it?
I highly recommend super flushing the system and switching to green. Dexcool is known as “dexkill” by many including me. It literally ate a hole in my Impala’s intake manifold.

I recently replaced my radiator on my 05 Suburban because the plastic tank split from the core and I also REPLACED the thermostat. I followed the procedure in the video and Now when I start it up after 10 minutes its running hot at over 240° and eventually it boils over. I dont know why it gets so hot. I tested the new thermostat and its is working fine, the electric fans come on at 235° but still it goes to 260°. What else could be causing it to overheat?

If you talking about one of the older ones that still had a real radiator cap/fill then all you have to do is take that off, fill it, crank the engine up, watch in the rad until the coolant starts moving. It will suck down as soon as it starts moving (the t-stat opens) so you top it off until it quits going down. Shut the engine down, put the cap on, and go on your merry way. The idiot that thought it was a good idea to remove the radiator cap on the radiator needs to have a hose shoved up their backside and filled until it comes out their nose.
Yeah so if we had low coolant light and stopped at gas station and choice was green or yellow. Went with yellow. Temps are below zero and having flow issue like its plugged up. Had mostly water and some Dex since changing water pump in summer until i added some yellow 5050. Will a flush and refill with Dex maybe fix it or could engine be about dead? It runs but mornings it overheats and i let it sit then try again and whatever was pluged is unplugged and temp goes back to normal.

Not all of the radiator come with that hose. They must’ve not known this or forgot to mention it. My 04 Denali did not have that hose until I bought a new radiator that cam with it.
My 2004 4.8L Tahoe doesn’t have the hose. It has the holder, but not the hose itself, or even a drain plug for that matter. I had to drain it by removing the lower radiator hose. It’s not so bad, but it’s hard to get hose clamped back on without a pair of hose clamp pliers. About $30-$35 depending where you look. Hope this helps save some people time!

What could cause this and how can I fix it I would really appreciate the help if anyone has some to offer
+Nathan Willis We wouldn't be able to diagnose an issue like that here, you may want to have a local mechanic take a look at it. Thanks for checking us out! 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c
My fans don't work 😣
You didn't lift the front of vehicle while bleeding
I did all this and I still have air in the system

Can you show me how to flush heater core on 2004 Oldsmobile Silhouette,Please....Or Post A Video With that Chevy Venture

I can't find the hose for the life of me, about to say screw it and disconnect the lower hose
Mine doesn’t have the hose or the Petcock to drain it.
Really flipping annoying
Was hoping it would be an easy fluid change. Never changed the coolant before and it’s almost 150k
Wat if that vaul thing don't work at all then wat can I do??
never said how many gallons total!
+Yougotme tw1sted Thanks for checking us out. If you have the 5.3L V8 the following numbers are the correct amount of coolant: For models with only front A/C - 14.4 quarts, for models with front and rear A/C - 15.8 quarts. 1aauto.com
+james rodriguez It would be in the manual.
@@1AAuto Do you actually put almost 15 quarts of antifreeze in the truck? Or is that half coolant half water quarts?
Where's the market that says the coolant is topped off?!
+TheArchy Bunker Thanks for watching! There should be a line on the overflow bottle that tells you how much you want to put in. 1aauto.com
Also my car won't go up to temp now
Thermostat.
this is not easy.
Nice!
Imo 99-02 is superior and simpler
You dont even show where or what a peckcock is
Dex-Cool is garbage for GM trucks....don't use it! Flush your system completely and use the Green coolant you won't regret it!!!! TRUST ME!
Dexcool is not garbage if you change it often before pH drops to acidic levels.
Can I use universal coolant for my 2001 Chevy suburban???
Wouldn’t recommend stick with Dex-cool aka orange kind recommend
+LEO’sDREAm’On Thanks for the tip!
1A Auto Parts lol I'm asking if it's ok?
@@chalkyeye5956 No, flush it and run Dex.
