Cheap and Easy Coolant Leak Fix
Stick around to the end for the 6-month review.
Here we do a cheap and easy fix on a coolant leak. I always have high-pressure sealant tape in my emergency kit and I use this on leaky Chevy transmission and power steering hoses and fittings (quite common on Chev/GMC trucks). I think everyone should have this stuff in their roadside emergency kit too.
Fix high temp and high pressure lines or leaks that last for a while, even though it’s meant for temporary use. :)

    Have a 2007 Pilot EXL, bought it new 17 years ago, have just started watching your videos. Excellent. Just watched brake cleaning video, and I'm curious.... I had an independent shop do 4-wheel , pads and rotors service 2 years ago, and for the first time since 2007, I started to get a metallic brake squeal when backing up at SLOW speed, more pronounced first thing in morning. They said they couldn't find anything wrong, but.... Wondering if you have an opinion about whether that might be lack of putting silicone brake pad lubricant on the ears of the brake pads where they might contact the brake pad clips, or if it's common for the clips to get bent or re-installed incorrectly. ( If it's poor etiquette of me to ask this question in this way, please let me know, and apologies. )

    • @lmsdiy
      @lmsdiy 5 днів тому

      Hi @travsprad if it's mainly in the morning it could just be condensation. I've learned to put silicon grease on all parts where metal rubs metal (except between the pads and rotor of course 😂) and it certainly helps. I haven't had any brake squeal with regular maintenance and we have very hot and cold snowy weather here. In a safe place you could also try braking in forward or reverse, and using the parking brake only to see if it's louder in the front or rear. That might help isolate it but I wouldn't be able to diagnose it remotely sorry.

    • @lmsdiy
      @lmsdiy 5 днів тому

      I should mention that this was after installing new pads and rotors and maintenance. I've previously had a shop install new brakes and rotors all around and they ended up squeaking after a year and they couldn't figure it out at the shop at all... It was futile but that was with that particular shop.

      Sorry skip that suggestion. I had it fresh in mind because I'm doing it on my truck but it has drum brakes in the back. The pilot has disc rear so this is not a valid suggestion...

      @@lmsdiy Thanks for your reply! My issue is mostly when braking while backing upo, and mostly only at VERY low speed, like in parking lots. I read your suggestion about silicon grease, but was unsure if your later post was nixxing that suggestion. It's not critical, I've been living with it for a good while.I figured one of the clips might have bent, etc.

    On silverado the wider orange tube fits in dipstick hole. If you do it when fluid is cold and has drained into pan overnight it works way better and faster ... drain container being lower makes big diff also ... and being parked with front downhill overnight tilts pan so more fluid is near dipstick where tube picks up ...

    It is rated for 1800 in-lb which is 150 ft-lb. Since loosening requires about 80% the tighten torque this should break free 187 ft-lb. PROBLEM IS, and nobody seems to test, is this only has about 60% of the CLAIMED torque with the 4 Ah battery and 30% with the 3Ah batteries fully charged. Yes the size of the battery affects torque. You broke free 100 ft-lbs so with that battery if you tightened the bolts until it stopped turning would only get you to 80 ft-lb. That is, take a torque wrench and see how much torque to make the nut turn tighter (mark it with a sharp pencil) would only be about 80 ft-lb. Then call Ryobi and ask them why u don't get 150.

    Greetings from northern Vermont. Been using them with Z36 pads on a 1997 GMC K1500 Suburban driven all year. They do stop the vehicle better than anything I have had on it. The downside is the rotors rust easily and only last about 3 years. If you don't clean and lubricate the slide pins annually, the pads and rotors are shot in 3 years, in under 10000 miles. They don't last in corrosive environments on dirt roads.

    That adapter to change the red hose to the black hose needs to be AT the pump. The work you're doing is right, but the design is wrong. You're trying to suck fluid thru a very small diameter hose into a larger diameter hose where the pressure does collapse the red hose. ALSO, this pump is $7.49 at Harbor Freight.

    • @lmsdiy
      @lmsdiy Місяць тому

      Thanks. That's all it comes with and we don't have Harbor Freight in Canada. But it's all good, the thicker hose I used instead isn't collapsing but I see what you mean.

    That jug you are using to recycle the fluid, use the old cap on it. Cut a hole in it big enough to put the hose in it so you can keep the hose from popping out. I should hold the hose in the jug. If needed, put a small hose clamp in the hose UNDER the cap so it won't slide out of the cap, that's if you cut the hole too big.

      Wow that's bright. Come to think of it, I pretty much never use the super bright mode. I always forget it's actual an option on there because it's a "long press" to enable it.

    That's awesome, this is the only video I could find the "How to" for that model of mastercraft torque wrench. Your right, it is different than most of the common designs out there. As I have the exact same model, this video has been a big help. Thanks 🥸

    Very well done video. I need to do this on my 2017 pilot. Also need to do the swaybar links. I see you have a video for that too, that’s up next for me. Local mechanic wants $2100 to replace both.

    My floor brush is working fine but the carpet one have power but not sucking upbthe dirt.What could be the problem?

    • @lmsdiy
      @lmsdiy 2 місяці тому

      If everything is working well except for the carpet head, my guess would be the carpet head attachment is clogged/obstructed. Disconnect power, detach it, inspect it, clean it. Best of luck!

    The new seals won't slide over the spark plug tubes. This is driving me crazy. I'll try heating the the new seals. If that don't work I'm gonna burn this fkn car up

      Ugh, frustrating! Maybe try seating them into the valve cover more? Any luck?

      @@lmsdiy I destroyed all 6 seals last night. heating the new ones with the heat gun prior helped them slid on

    Are these NorthEast Salty road rust resistant>?

    • @lmsdiy
      @lmsdiy 3 місяці тому

      They are zinc-plated to help "prevent corrosion." My guess is they probably hold up well enough compared to another brand, but anything continuously exposed to salt and extreme weather conditions will cause rust (in my opinion).
