24HR OBGYN CALL | WHO WAKES ME UP MORE? - NURSES/PATIENTS vs 4 KIDS - A VLOG STORY

- Опубліковано 14 бер 2019
- Follow OBGYN doctor mom Danielle Jones as she takes call for 24 hours. Who will be responsible for the night-time wakings - work or one of her 4 children??
(this call day ranks 3/10 on a doctor busy-ness scale...results may not be reproducible...)
thumbnail is a sarcastic exaggeration - don't troll me

im not a vlogger
how do i write this
someone write my descriptions for me
goodnight
The fact that you're a doctor, you have four kids, AND you make these videos definitely makes you an over-achiever. I would cry.
Honestly not many people can do that so its also a feet when it comes to helping people
Im with u she really is
You'd cry because you, like me, are a meer mortal. We can't all do this job because the rest of us need sleep! I'd die somewhere in the midst of all that she does. Lol.
@@-touya_todoroki feat not feet 😂 🦶
It would be hard to be present for so many people...never mind over achieving.
Could you imagine going into labour and Mama Jones is your doctor! I'd fangirl so hard hahah
Imagine that but then also saying it's totally fine for her to film and during a contraction you just grab the nearest thing, which is the camera, and throw it at the wall😂😂😂 I've never been pregnant but after a lap surgery and IUD placement I had some really bad pain and my mom said that if she didnt know better she'd say I was having contractions- all I wanted to do was grad breakable stuff and throw it at the wall😂😂
“OMG MDJ PLEASE SIGN MY BABY”
Ahhh same!!
Saaammmmeeeeee
MacKenzie B during my first labor my Dr came in with a whole bunch
Of med students and he looked at me and said it ok if they watch and like no no no it's not ok for a ton of people to see my stuff this my first baby and Ido to even want to see that
Can you do a video talking about how obgyns handle situations where the patient has previously suffered a sexual trauma?
emma kayf I would like to know about that as well.
I spoke to my midwife about this and she said if I end up with a male doctor on the day I can ask to have a female doctor instead if it makes me feel uncomfortable. Not guaranteed but they will try their best. She also said that they will provide me with extra support if I need it and are offering extra appointments to check in with my mental health. Not sure if that happens everywhere but it's what my hospital is doing for me.
are you joking? most women absolutely do not.@@EmmaGodLovesTruth95
@@scarlet702 I think the truth is somewhere in the middle. It's not most women but a lot more than those who haven't been abused would think. There is a lot of latency around this issue and it'd absolutely warrant ob/gyns taking it into account.
Alexia Bates the statistic is about 1 in 6 women have experienced some kind of sexual abuse. so, that’s definitely a lot.
My water broke 2 years ago on a rainy day. Went to the hospital and I had to wait in triage for 3 hours because ALL 16 labor/delivery rooms were taken. I definitely believe barometric pressure plays a role! Haha
My water broke on a rainy day 7 years ago. Had to wait as well. I was 3 weeks early.
My water broke the morning of a massive incoming snowstorm
I was born on a massive new year snowstorm. Jan 2000 in Ontario Canada. Like this if you were in the province and experienced it.
If only your water broke You can wait for labor up 24 hours it okay but have iv antibiotics after 18 hours
Megan Kidd Didn’t experience it, but I’m from Ontario, Canada too. I lived in New Brunswick in January 2000.
"I wonder why do people watch these?"
1) They think you're interesting
2) They think your job/content is interesting
3) They are actually considering going into the career field and want an idea of what kind of things to look forward to
4) You don't curse, which, combined with #2, makes you somewhat of a rarity on UA-cam
Also, what song is that playing in your transitions?
Yeah, I used to watch Andy Warski videos and had to stop entirely because he swears so much and my kids always magically appeared whenever his videos came on.
@Ash Ketchup I'm not worried they'll be traumatised. I'm concerned about how it reflects on myself and my husband when our children mimic that language. Parents are constantly under a microscope where we live and we'd be naive to not bear that in mind. Plus, I don't want my kids to not be invited to play with friends because their parents are worried about their kids might learn from mine.
Ash Ketchup and some do not agree with the words, and prefer to not have young children hear them. Let her parent her way.
1,2 and 3...

“I wonder why do people watch these??” Well, because you have an amazing personality AND you educate us. Love you MDJ!
You wondered why people watch. I watch because it’s a unique opportunity to see the life of an OB/GYN and hear your perspective on things. You’re interesting to listen to and you deliver information in a digestible format. Thank you!
I watch to delay housework. It's entertaining.
I’m exhausted just watching you go about your day! Just being a mom to 4 kids is a lot; add your career on top of that, and you become Super Woman! I love your videos, so glad I found you :)
"Why do people watch these?" Well, because I'm a nursing student on my way to becoming a Midwife and I love hearing from OB/GYNs! Every opportunity I have to see you guys in action, or listen to you and your perspectives, I take!
Lexi Bell I wish I could become a midwife or OB/GYN but I can't do all the needles and such.
@@oliviagruss2378 Honestly, if you truly wanted to be one then you would try your very best to get over your fear :]
I work in the UK and they removed 24 calls, the max is now 12-13 hours followed by at least 11 hours rest between shifts. Although when my parents were training 20 years ago, they had 72 hour calls... I can't imagine, as I find 12 hours quite intense
whoa!!
Yep worked 48 hr shifts while breastfeeding
@@saphiael-mansub2206 Wow that must have been tough! My mum used to used to bottle feed as she found breast feeding too difficult with work.
I still see the 72 hour shift in some fields
But UK system is very different. Usually a midwife is present by delivery physicians only when there is reason. Right? Or is It mandatory for OB to be present by every delivery?
And BTW. I have a friend who is Ob-Gyn doctor and she start her weekend shift (once a month unless her coleagues have a problem) at 7 am on Friday and finished at 16pm on Monday. It is against the law But they dont usually deal with this stuff in Czech hospitals. The reason Why she is in job so long that they added a normal 8 hour shift to this weekend crazy shift. Its not “on call” she has to be whole time present in hospital. Responsible for Obsteric ward, gyn and even after birth and Ob-gyn emergency.
I'm an OB/GYN too in Spain, and it is so different for me to see a call day like this. In my hospital we are required to stay inside the hospital for 24h (public hospital) and we are required to attend every single birth that comes our way (no assigned doctor to patient, you get the on call one) so it is VERY different. Most of the normal vaginal deliveries are handled by midwives, so we just come in for anything out of the ordinary (I still like to keep an eye on everything progressing normally since I am in the hospital anyway). However, in my hospital we are 2 OB/GYNs and 3 CNMs on call during the full 24h so it is usually not too bad. I just got off a 24h call and we had 4 deliveries total (1 vaccum) and a lot of ER consults. We do have a resident most days, so they do most of the procedures and I just get to supervise them.
PS: I agree with the hormonal IUDs, my patients are usually the happiest with them if they understand what they are getting before the insertion. The weather thing I'm not really sure, but I used to joke with a colleague about actually collecting data on full moon nights and people coming in for their water breaking, just as a joke lol
Interesting!!!
you should collect data about full moon/baromic changes and births ! that would be an interesting study !
I’d love to see a video on your maternity leave experience and how you feel about maternity leave in general for working moms who might have different priorities from each other.
I'd be interested in this too. As an Australian where Parental Leave is a legal right, I wonder whether MDJ has chosen to go back to work or if she has been 'forced' to go back to work because parental leave options aren't as readily available in the USA? No judgement whatever the reason is, I'm just interested.
I'd love to hear about your maternity leave too!
Actually I believe that the whole “your water can break due to changes in barometric pressure” is a real thing...I went into labor with my daughter last September two weeks early due to us getting the leftover remnants of a hurricane. The hospital staff told me that four other women also went into labor that same day because of the weather.
That's really neat though!!! I always get headaches or migraines when there's a change in the air pressure, usually when it's gonna rain and my joints all hurt too. Makes me wonder what will happen when I finally get pregnant haha.
Correlation is not causation. Sounds pretty reckless for hospital staff to definitively say "because of the weather". I sure hope it wasn't doctors saying that.
It's true- pressure can induce labor www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17004080
@@You.Tube.Sucks. nurses always say dumb shit. I have muscular dystrophy and I am in the hospital a lot more than regular people. I've heard them say some frightening anti science shit. Scary.
Honest self deprecating humour - that's why I watch.
I love the fact that you show your work life as well as your home life! When patients are waiting on a consult they have no idea where you’re coming from and the waiting can get so monotonous! I’ll be a more patient, patient! It just wouldn’t be a video without you’re precious babies! Love them all! Much Love from Oklahoma!
Yay, Oklahoman! Me too🙂
I ABSOLUTELY thought you pulled out a copper IUD while you were in your car to show us at 7:48
🤣🤣 could happen lol
Same! I was so confused
So happy I stumbled on your chanel, you were actually my doctor for a short period before I moved to DC! Seriously the best GYN I've ever had :) #didmypap
Oh wow really!
Sooo very lucky
You lucky one!
I love watching you because you are absolutely relatable. When my kids we little they rated about a 20/10 on the no-sleep scale. Variously silent reflux, sleep apnea, night terrors, sleep walking, anxiety, bad habits. We really had an rough first nine years as parents. I love them to bits and pieces though! Worth it. ❤️ Thank you for showing us part of your everyday life.
Do more of these.....like "A Day in the Life of," type vlogs! EXCELLENT!
I wish UA-cam had a heart button to press than thumbs up as I absolutely LOVE your videos. You're open and clear about everything. PS: Milo is the cutest!!
I worked as a nurse in an OBGYN clinic. It’s interesting to see things from this perspective. You seem a lot nicer than our docs though. My stomach drops every time I realize I’m going to have to call one of them! Ha! Part of the reason I left. I miss doing LEEPs though. I loved to assist with those!
The on call doc refused to come in for me because I was a first time mom and "would take hours" , I delivered with the head nurse an hour later 😅😅 Not sure why they're so grumpy when they know that's their job.
Being on the other side of a LEEP is no fun. I think it would have been nice to have a nurse like you for it!
@@joannasaadati8810 they are probably overworked/tired
I have a video idea for you! Periods and special needs patients... your opinion on options? Do we as caregivers try to stop them, anything to make it easier from your perspective? Just found your channel! Special needs mama of two boys but totally thought this would be an excellent video idea!

As a disabled person I don't think it's fair for a caregiver to make that choice. That's between the person and their dr. Give us dignity.
@@jexikavindictive not all disabled people can think and make choices for themselves. Those that can, please by all means make those choices for yourselves. I'm speaking about women who are like my boys, non verbal and cant speak for themselves
I'm a little confused, what do you mean by "try to stop them"?
@@nowandaround312 there are birth control types that will ultimately stop a woman from having a period. If my son were a girl, and that was something we had to worry about with him every month I'm not sure if we could through it with hygiene, and hormonal changes that happen
I love watching you, because this reminds me that OBGYN's are also just people. Thank you for sharing your life with us.
I just found a video of yours and now i am binge watching...
I am not going to be a mother, like ever, but i find that i really like your personality and content that is full of information.

On call and being a momma?! That's some daunting stuff!! But look at you go!!! 😄😄💚
I have to say as an RN and a current 31 week MFM pt it’s nice to see such a friendly and open doc. Thank you 😊
This is the third video of yours I’ve watched and I didn’t know anything about you. However, I recognized the hospital from the very beginning of this video! We lived about 5 min from there when we live in CS 3.5 years ago. I delivered our second son there. Great experience all around! Makes my heart happy!
This was a pretty cool video! I really appreciate your perspective of your call day. I'm an OR nurse myself so it was cool to see a snapshot of a different OR setting. Also I love how you incorporate some teaching into your videos as well. Thank you 😁
How long until pregnant people start coming to you because of your videos and you become the Dr. Pimple Popper of pregnant ladies? 😂 UA-cam suggested one of your videos to me 18 hours ago and now I can't even remember which one I've seen so many.
Oh I totally bet it's already happened! Heck, if I lived in Texas I would go out of my way to switch to her. You can tell she's an INCREDIBLE doctor. I'm going to be honest, I looked her up online and her patient feedback is ah-mazing. I don't think I've ever seen a doctor with so many glowing reviews over the years from patients. She's something special, for sure!
For sure! How cool to go to TX to have your baby delivered by DMJ
I live in Texas and went to A&M (she's a doctor in College Station). I tried to convince my husband we should see her as our doctor since i'm currently pregnant even though she's 4 hours away lol. He said no :(
@@dorkydrummer95 booo for your husband
I'm very happy with my copper IUD! For me, the side effect of heavier periods was much better than the side effect of irregular or no periods. I'm not a huge fan of bleeding, but I really value that peace of mind!
harmonicaveronica I also really like my copper IUD, I was on the hormonal one and that one made me super super emotional. I was crying, laughing and angry all the time. I have irregular periods and with the copper IUD it made me have a normal monthly period 😂
I have a hormonal IUD and I'm glad to not have my period anymore😂 I mean, the whole point for me was to not get my period, which is why I got a hormonal IUD (endometriosis treatment) but I'm still relieved to not have my period anymore😂 But I definitely also understand the relief of knowing that you get your period! If it wasnt for my periods always being so bad I probably would be more anxious about not getting it at all😅
We watch these because we love you, and we love to see what you do. 😊
I love watching these older videos of you! I wish you were in Texas still and could be my friend or at least my OB! So happy for all the success your channel has with all of your hard work!
I recognized your hospital and am pretty pumped because this is where I plan on having my second baby! You're videos have just become 1000% more interesting to me. :)
Hi from a year in the future! I hope your delivery went well?
I have no idea how you do all that you do!! I also had 4 kids and can't imagine raising them if I was a doctor, clinics, on-call, vlogging, and the list goes on and on (oh and let's not forget a new baby and breastfeeding!!!!!) You are amazing!
I don’t know how you do it all, but I love it!!! You’re amazing!!

As a new sub I think the appeal of you/your chanel is you bring it real and honest....about a topic most people dont know how to bring up to begin with! 😎 keep it real girl!
Okay, I watched this video months ago and I remember you were seeing people in clinic and on call and I remember thinking, gosh wouldn’t that conflict if someone goes into labor while you have appts. I’m pregnant with #2 and currently sitting in the visit room waiting for my OB and they’ve shared that she was called away for a delivery at the hospital down the block and I immediately remembered this video. Instead of feeling put out at being un seen today I’m so thrilled that someone else is having a baby today and emotional at the idea that even when things conflict in this way it’s seriously for the best thing ever. Dr’s, midwives and nurses that help bring babies into the world are serious hero’s.
Thank you for this ♥️

I love watching your videos, I work in healthcare ( med tech) it’s always interesting to see how other mothers handle our crazy schedules.
Being a doctor is just the most exhausting thing ever. I work at a preschool 8 to 5 and am literally jumping to leave at 5. I can’t imagine leaving and being home with my kids only to hear oh hey you need to come back to help deliver a baby real quick. Go you, I’m from Texas and you seem like an awesome and caring OB/GYN.
With my twins my water broke at 35 weeks when tropical storm jaquin passed over us. No contractions up to that point. I think there is something to the pressure bottoming out.
I’m kind of curious on how you deal with patients with severe anxiety around pelvic exams and Pap smears. I have extreme anxiety around these exams and usually have to work with my therapist weeks before a gyno exam or procedure in order to be able to get through it. I’ve fortunately have had mostly very patient doctors and nurses but I’ve had one doctor who did a surprise uterine biopsy on my witch kind of set my progress around my anxiety back.
Omg that's awful about the surprise biopsy!! But I just wanted to comment and say it's amazing that you struggle with that but still go and get it done 💜💜 My friend has the same fears but hasn't had a pap for 10 years and I really worry about her.
Meanwhile I'm 23 and never been to one because of anxiety 😬 I dont have an OB/GYN
@@artsysabs Do you need an OB to have a pap smear? Here in Canada my regular physician does them.
@@joannasaadati8810 honestly I dont even know. And these are things I should know... but my mom has been bugging me for a few years now to go to the ob/gyn 🤷♀️

I love how real you are :) One comment on the IUDs - for those who don't know, they do prevent birth, but they don't necessarily prevent conception (At least the copper ones).
I got Mirena about 3 months ago now. I naturally have awful super heavy periods that are very painful. Got on the pill to help with that when I was probably 13, after being on it for a few years it just wasn’t controlling my periods like it used to. Then I got the implant which did not work for me at all, I bled for 6 months. 1st month I had the iud I had my first on time period in probably 2 years. Have only dealt with a little spotting. Wish I would have just gotten the iud instead of the implant, my only reason for this was because I was freaked out about how it is inserted. Thanks to an amazing ob/gyn at my local health department it was a breeze! Love that you are out here educating us!
Another Ob/Gyn here...I can so relate to having no gas while being on call, lol. Love watching your videos.
Many of us appriciate seeing things from your point of view. I know personally I have a tenancy to feel like my doctor(s) don't take the time to actually care about us. Specially when the appointments just breeze by and many of us feel unheard. We don't really think about the 50 other patients you see a day. Thank you for your videos and information.
I’m loving watching your videos! I’ve always been passionate about reproductive health but wound up in emergency nursing... your perspective on the women you serve is great.
Thank you for explaining the IUDs, I’m waiting for a consultation with the endometriosis specialist (the wait lists in Scotland are a year + some places mostly because you can count the number of them on one hand in the country). My primary care docs been really great at dealing with things, I’ve been on the contraceptive pill (so many of them) but nothing much is working much anymore. No ones really bothered explaining it to me, I didn’t realise it was so easy to put in and take out which puts my mind at rest, I was scared of getting something that if it really doesn’t work we couldn’t get back out easily. So thanks!
I’m watching this video holding my 2 month old Paraguard baby.
I can absolutely vouch for the much heavier periods but not so much on the reliability front 😆
artzombie08 SHIT I have one of these things 😳
Mine failed, but it failed very early on, so it was down to placement I think. I was pregnant on the copper IUD with in 4 months.
Same, 3 years in and it failed.
Currently 8 weeks pregnant with my twins I conceived with my paraguard. Lol
You are seriously a rockstar!! If I was in texas I would so want you to be my OBGYN hahaha but I do love mine where I am at, I got lucky. I've had some bad experiences, but its drs. Like you that gave me the courage to find a great one!

When I got my IUD, it was THE WORST. I got home and an hour later I threw up from the pain. I made the mistake of getting it the Friday before my cousins wedding (next day) that was a 4 hour car ride away...that was the worst car ride ever full of cramps and pain, and as I cant take NSAIDS, tylenol didn't help. Thank god for Zofran though!! I made it through the wedding (woo) but had to call it quits halfway through the reception I was in so much pain. The car ride back on Sunday was just as bad, but it slowly got better though the week.
But here I am 2 years later, and I LOVE IT. So, the beginning sucks, but the result is worth it. Yay for no periods!
"Why do people watch these?" Because you are wonderful human being! And you make us feel safe even if you are not our personal doctor. You are gentle and heart warming. And that's covers and more the reasons why any one would watch your vlogs

Baby #3 on a copper IUD with perfect placement over here!! 👋 the IUD string had been cut very short and migrated into my cervix and it required manual cervical dilation to remove under ultrasound guidance. But my doctor got it and baby made it through unharmed, which was our prayer and desire. I was 8 months postpartum. Definitely a blessing and can’t imagine our family without her.
