DOCTOR VLOGGING IN HOSPITAL: 24 Hour Shift

- Join me for 24 hours in the hospital - see what it's really like to be a junior doctor!
Currently I'm on a hematology rotation (specialty of blood disorders). In the morning I see patients in a hematology clinic, then in the afternoon I see patients in the hospital. When 5pm rolls arounds, I take on a new role covering the ward overnight. That means I'm seeing patients in the emergency department as they come into hospital and managing any issues that come up on the ward (patients who are already admitted).
When discussing patient cases, this is only my perspective and is not meant to be reflective of how all physicians should treat patients. Note: the chest x-ray is a borrowed image and not from the patient I was treating.
THANK YOU for watching!

Loved the “Cool, eh?” When you were showing the blood samples being transported. 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
Hi we got a walk home 🏡 we have got a couple things
Welcome back! Some medical students at our hospital recently did a speed test on our tube system, and they go around at 27 mph! I was impressed. I work on a peds unit and the kids LOVE to watch the tubes fly in. Sometimes we send goodies amongst floors and the kids think “hospital elves” are delivering them presents 😂
That is absolutely adorable 😍
So sweet
Omg thats the cutest thing I've ever heard! That would be perfect on Christmas so children can get presents :)
I know you're just a junior Doctor, but I'm pretty sure you're more human and dedicated than other old/experienced doctors. My mom had breast cancer, and she always told me that 90% of any patient's recovery, is thanks to the great treatment/humanity from doctors and nurses. I believe that.
cristina solano Makes sense, older doctors have seen more death especially cancer patients. The Doctors tend to be a lot more jaded

Although I'm not going into medicine, I always find your videos so interesting to watch x
Not sure if anyone else wants to see this... but I would love to hear how you got into violin, what are your favourite music to play on the violin and if you could play some more violin on camera.
JustChristia YES
I don’t know why but your videos are so comforting. Anytime I’m anxious or can’t fall asleep I turn to your videos.
I like this style of vlogging so much, it gets the viewer so immersed in what your perspective is.
Nice room! I can see why it's your favorite. It beats a closet stuffed with bunks.
I'm glad you're learning the benefits of clarifying your orders and encouraging questions, so staff don't have to wake you up later. You might also look into the benefits of "if this, then that' orders, particularly for routine procedures.
Wow I didn’t know hospitals have a transport system like that. Nice vlog!
wow i cant imagine being woken up that many times during my beauty sleep
The most beautiful Doctor in the World 😊

You’re such a positive and happy person you really brighten up my day when I watch your videos! I love that you smile even after long shifts! ☺️
Can you do longer videos plz x only found your channel and I’m obsessed ❤️❤️
Oh my gosh! I get the same thing with the squinty eye's when i'm working a night shift. Absolutely LOVE your videos!!
You should make a video based on what you do after a 24 hour shift!
Am I the only one who gets half nervous-half excited everytime her pager goes off? So interesting to see your cases and diagnosis!!
I love how in-depth you go with these videos!
Love your videos as a two time liver transplant recipient I love seeing the other side of things and what it’s like for doctors :)
The mirror transition made me laugh :) It makes me happy to see how dedicated you are to your job!! Thanks for another great video!!
You give me my "Girl Power" power I need for the week I swear! You truly are an inspiration to me (29y/o) and I hope to young girls everywhere. Love to you dear friend!
Great video as always❤
Sooo interesting. Keep up the in-hospital vlogs!!!
Q: Have you ever dealt with burn out as a resident or when you were an undergrad? What did you do? Thank you!
Entei Raikou Hi, I’m an NP doing my doctorate and did a recent ethics presentation. It is common in residents and under treated. I’ve read that some programs are working to raise awareness of early signs of burn out and resources as alcohol and other methods are used to cope. If you are experiencing this you should speak to the school about your resources available.
Yes most residents are burnt out at certain points during residency and this can go on for weeks, months or longer or come and go. You have to be available to work any day or night and so it is hard to plan hobbies, special events etc. You are often changing rotations or hospitals each month so you are always new in your environment. You are constantly evaluated and know in the back of your mind you are basically auditioning for fellowships and jobs. Many residents are pretty hard on themselves/perfectonists. Many residents are in $100,000-300,000 student debt in North America. You are often working 80 or more hours per week and expected to work for 24+ hours at a time without breaks or sleep. You work about half the weekends of the year and work on many holidays. (In the last 3 years I worked every easter weekend, every thanksgiving weekend, a Christmas and some other holidays). You witness a lot of death and suffering and are sometimes yelled at by patients or other health care team members. Occasionally doctors make mistakes because we are human but it can have big consequences to people's health/lives. All these reasons lead to recurrent burnout among many/most residents.
I loooove these video! so grateful that you are able to make these day in the life videos, seriously please keep making them!
Most adorable doctor ever!

Agreed lol
My 70 year old mom thought I had the hots for her
hey! i’ve always had really bad health anxiety & i have always been terrified of visiting hospitals, but your videos have helped me to not be so scared & realise that they are not all bad! it’s great to know there are doctors like you! thank you for the content ☺️💕
You sound so wholesome and kind! Those patients are lucky to have you!
I really liked that you were able to explain a little more about the issues you dealt with with the patient, like the oxygen and things, very interesting!
It’s awesome hearing you talk about the different professions you interact with in the hospital!
I’m a respiratory therapy student and I loved seeing other people mention this not well known profession!
I love how you explain what you did for the patient with the low oxygen!!!!!! :D That was helpful, thanks!
The pressed air machines for the lab etc were the funniest entrainment to watch when I was a patient on peditratics
You're videos make me so happy!
THANK YOU!!!! For including Respiratory!! I know I've said this before but I love watching your videos!
I love that you shared some more details about your case! I love to hear about diagnoses, diagnostics, treatment and the outcome
Sswwwwwwaa
As a resident, do you have a lot of studying to do? (Relative to med school and undergrad) thanks❤
always reaaaally excited when she uploads. really great videos and very informative, love them!
I just binge watched all your videos & you are absolutely stunning oh my goodness.
I love your positive energy, all the work you put into helping other people, & I totally don't have a crush on you ^_^
Hey Siobhan! Can you make a video about what exactly pushed you towards the medical field? I'm really curious as to why people choose to become doctors, whether it be the will of their parents, the salary, wanting to help people after having overcome something in the hospital, etc. What's your story?
I love your videos ! Specially when you tell us about the problem and how you solved it!
Hi Siobhan! Wow that was a lot in a day's work! Again, I have to say this - you're Wonder/Super Woman! Thank you for saving lives and for sharing your life with us.😍
Would love to see what foods you eat on a 24h r shift x
Thank you for posting these. I don't work in medicine but find the videos to be really informative. Cheers!
Love this style of video!
Great vid once again Siobhan! Wondering- how far away are your call rooms usually to where you are assigned? Are they in the middle of the hospital making it easier to go in all directions? What if your on different floors? How many floors are you generally assigned to check for the night? What if you're a full 10mins away or something from the furtherest patient? Sorry for all the q's!
how did you managed to look exactly the same through this whole shift? Apparently I'm a patient with lupus and still is scared goin to hospital 😂 well I guess since I've been watching all of your video and get some necessary information on how things work in hospital for doctor I think I can handle that much. Sending love all the way from Malaysia. xo
I’ve been waiting for this for so long!! Love your vlogs 😍
This is my favorite channel, you need more subscribers
I love watching these vlogs - I never thought I’d be this interested in these kinds of videos especially considering it’s so far from my career path but I can’t stop watching your vlogs!
But I have a question - how an earth do you hear the pager? I would sleep right through it!!!
That was a really informative vlog! Thanks for sharing a bit more about things, instead of jumpcutting between patients. I feel like we got a good sense of what goes through your mind, and what all needs to be done with different patients.
my beat after 7 hours of school😂 props to you!!:)
This is better than the old ABC NY MED show. It Kinda reminds me of MTV's TRUE LIFE. Keep up the good work 🤗.
Leo Cardenas they need to bring those med shows back 😭 I miss them
Love these videos, I found your channel about 2 weeks ago and have binge watched all your videos. I wish you uploaded more frequently 😍
I love watching your videos so much! I've always found anything medical very interesting and though I'm not wanting to be doing anything on the medical side of things for work I want to work in a children's ward as a play specialist. I'm slowly working my way to that goal. I recently spent 2 months in hospital (in london uk) for 3 major emergency spinal operations with a lot of complications. I love watching the behind the scene style of your videos. always really informative and I learn a lot!
Happy you're back with your new great video.. ❤️
I’ve been refreshing the page like every minute cause I’ve been waiting for this new video because they are so good and interesting ✨
I love your videos! So fascinating ☺️
Your vlogs are always so positive. Thank you for cheering me up.🙃👩🏼💻🌞🔝🖤
Love your videos! How do you find your colleagues with children or families handle residency?
YAYAYAYAAY my favourite videos ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Love the vlog, keep up the great work!! I'm literally watching your video on my 10 min break in between rotations right now 😂😂
woah you must be very brave and patient to handle patients that come in for emergencies like the ones you encountered in this video.
I absolutely love your vlogs! I am going for my bachelors degree and hoping to go into pediatrics! I appreciate your vlogs so much to get more of a behind the scenes look at what it’s like in the medical field! Love ya!
I love watching your videos 😄😄☺️☺️
More like this!!! Love it
love these videos! im not sure if it’s something you’re interested in but just curious if you know if you’ll ever do a psych rotation? that’d be cool to see :)

We love you and are here for you!!! 😍😍😍
Welcome back...hope you enjoy weekend
Q: If you already know what speciality your going into, why do you have to go through different rotations during your residency?
Loving the suspenseful music

I'm a new subscriber and I love your videos!❤ I'm studying hard hoping to get into medical school and your positive attitude is really inspiring and motivating! ❤❤
Hi there I love your videos :) they get me really excited to start medical school in August!!
In my military service (Air Force), when we were on QRA5 (Quick Reaction Alert, in less than 5 minutes they must be airborne), basically scramble the fighter jets we used to sleep with the shoes on, just to save few seconds, but on longer QRAs (15+) we didn't.
You should do a video of how your pager works
I love this channel!!!!!
I just covered the haematology ward on my rounds today!! I genuinely haven’t used my brain this much at work 😩 so much to remember
That Medic ayyyyyy
Bradley Hh eyyyyyy
I just found your channel and think your videos are amazing and super informative! I noticed you wearing a McMaster University lanyard and was wondering if you went there for your undergrad(if so what program) or for med school?
I was just at the hospital you work at yesterday! I realized you worked there and I was hoping I would see you but no such luck :(. Loved the video
You have such a nice Residents-Life 👌...seems it might be a myth after-all that "Residency is the hardest and most stressful time in someones Medical career! This is very encouraging...Thank you!
lol i dont know I worked 180 hours over the last 2 weeks.......
I'm 13 years old and my dream is to become a surgeon. I'm obsessed with anything doctor related (including Greys Anatomy😂) and watching your videos makes me want to do it even more! I love how you explain some of the medical terms! Thank you so much for your videos and please don't ever stop making them!!
I LOVE HER CHANNEL
Would love to see a vid about feedback you get from the senior residents & attendings. On the documentaries I’ve watched it seems like the higher ups can be kind of hard on the newer residents so would love to hear your experiences with that
i hope u can maintain your coolness down the road like maybe 10-20 yrs as a doctor. some of the doctors i work with in the hospital r grumpy/mean/rude and unprofessional... but then they're the older generation doctors hahah
I love watching these lol
Hi Shavan. I like your hospital doctor vlogs.
my biggest motivation :)))))
UR AMAZING
Nice step up in the editing! Question for some time: can you explain the differences in "conditions" (critical condition, serious condition, etc.)? I assume it's the same in the US as Canada, but I guess I'm not completely sure...
I love 0:55. Such a Canadian thing to say! ahaha (at least I think, I’m from California)
I wish we had more young docters like yourself :) I wouldnt hate going to the hosp[ital so much ! :)
Great channel and content! Question - when it comes to primary care, what is the difference between the internal medicine and family medicine specialties and as a single guy in my 20s, which should I choose for my primary care physician?
I'm not sure if this has been answered before on this channel, but why do they have you work 24 hour shifts? Do they not have enough people to schedule 8-10 hour shifts? Is it a training thing? Does it just make keeping track of patients easier given the handover process?
It's the same here in Germany and it's for keeping track of the patients medical developement and an easier handover process.
Missed you ☺️
