Skelotor Skelotor we don't know how quickly all that sprung up. i think based on the crater where it was located, the meteors from the beginning could have brought alien life to earth or they could have brought elements that helped earth life burst quickly. people are bitching about plot holes like they want everything spelled out for them like they're fucking 5 years old. use your damn imagination!
Im pretty sure they never leave their posts at the city unless someone gets out, like the kid did. So from this we can infer that they don't explore outside and therefore wouldn't have found it because they weren't looking.
+pereiramariana35 I think it is actually a very good way to tell that story. The pure "self destruction" of human civilization would not result in *one* big catastrophic event that kills everything at once (except when you're talking about nuclear warfare). Everything else is a long, slow process that would not decimate us, we are "too smart" to get killed by that. The real danger is, that these problems make us so unaware of our surroundings, that we'd not be able to react to outside or unexpected catastrophies.
It says in the description that for some reason humans weakened the ionosphere (it's a layer of the atmosphere which usually causes asteroids to burn up if they get too close to the earth) so when that asteroid came to earth there was nothing there to stop it from hitting the surface
+capbarker Irony is, that weakening of the atmosphere may have given earth a second chance for survival. It did after all look like that mini forest was in an astroide crater
I totally agree and it would be completely different from fallout because nothing is out there everything is gone except for the last group of human and the new plants and animals that are living the crater. Although it should probably be based further in the future, maybe a century or so later. I would totally play it but sadly it probably will never be a game.
Knowing us, we'll probably destroy that garden within the next year or so. Also I like how it was growing in a meteor crater, which implies the meteor that landed there carried life from another planet. The bird is really neat, too, because birds are one of the earliest descendants of prehistoric life.
lovely day800 i said "earliest descendents of prehistoric life" not "earth's first animals" lol. the definition of prehistoric is before history was recorded by humans. It'd make sense they'd survive the end of the world because they did it once already.
Not only was the narration at the beginning contradictory, but it was so pointless. I think at this point, you can allow us to assume that in a film where the Earth is a wasteland, something catastrophic occurred. Otherwise, very beautiful.
+Skip Michael The meteor was close up, it was only the size of that crater, but the point was that it had life on which developed when it hit Earth. It wouldn't have been big enough to wipe out all life on Earth. And if what they claimed was true (all the trees had been cut down etc) then the world would definitely have ended up as a wasteland. Trees contribute too much to so many ecosystems that everything would simply collapse in a fatal domino effect.
+Skip Michael Quote from the description: "for unknown reasons, the Earth's ionosphere has weakened dramatically during the course of the last century, resulting _in the collapse of the entire ecosystem_. Earth has become an increasingly hostile and uninhabitable place and _with no shield to protect it, it is at the full mercy of meteors_ "(italics mine). The devastation came first, the meteors second. There is no contradiction in the woman's opening narration.
+Silkendrum What absolute bollocks, the ecosystem provides no protection against solar radiation or meteors as it is today, if the ecosystem collapses it makes no difference at all to whether we get hit by a meteor or not.
I hate these kinds of videos when people leave comments like wow people are so horrible to doing this but you let it happen and you are living in it, but great video and very inspiring
mother earth is incredible , she always prevails. nature finds a way. and i think the narrative should have said how mining asteroids lead to our destruction. beautiful story and animation , bravo.
Magnifico! Stupendo il finale. ..madre natura che perdona gli errori dell'uomo e gli offre un'altra possibilità per ricominciare...siete bravissimi complimenti!
Agreed. Little naturalistic touches, like the depth of blues and blacks in the moon-lit night, the "swimming" arm motion of the running policeman, the lighting and softened rough texture of the skin on the kid's cheek, the very slightly accelerated second head shake as the kid tries to clear his oxygen-starved vision.
Congratulations to you who did this short movie..it takes alot of efforts only to see the negative comments..can we appreciate anything already folks? I love this movie..please keep it coming..
Meteors hit Earth all the time, however they always get evaporated into nothing by the atmosphere. Now... imagine... If we humans would erode our atmosphere. Oh wait, we are. There are literally holes in our atmosphere right now .
You see... There was an atmosphere when the dinosaurs were around as well, lil buddy. Didn't do shit for them. If that isn't enough, those meteors are fucking huge. No amount of atmosphere is gonna burn them up enough. In fact, the first one alone would more than likely IGNITE whatever atmosphere we have left by that point in history. Then there would be none of your precious, "super-atmosphere" left to save whoever is unlucky enough to have survived.
Neat Gentilis You see... the rock that hit earth way back then was massive, and the rocks we're saying now could be any size. Remember that art takes advantage of perspective illusions. For example, if you look up at the sky and down at the ground, your perspective illusion is that the earth is bigger than the sun when it's quite the contrary.
Dude. Did you even watch the video? The rocks are fucking huge, and you didn't even make a response to my second point. You're just jumping on the global warming bandwagon that this video is trying to ride as well. Fucking homestuck fans.

so true, this is not very logical. they didnt know about that forest thing right in front of their city? i mean apocalypse because of us is all fine but then this? also how did that kid survive the first fall, the accident and then the toxic stuff? great story, not: kid in an apocalypse finds bird, decides to run away(?) and then finds a forest...👌
Stories aren't about the likely, stories are about the unlikely. You never talk to your friend about how you got a sandwich in the fridge. You tell your friend how you saw a car wreck right in front of you.

This is brilliantly thought out! The characters name is Hermes, God of travel. The character finds a bird that leads to another world just as Hermes is also a god known to travel between worlds. Amazing graphic also!
+Bloodaxetheirritable It's the symbol of the Greek God Hermes (which is the boy's name, judging by the birthday card at 3:30). He was the messenger for the gods as well as the patron saint of theives - quite appropriate given how the kid steals a bike...
Apocalypse Squid Yeah. That often happens just because "3d-workers" want to make something, what looks cool and could fill their portfolio, and their emptyness inside, while guys with good ideas - may look like nerds, but they are definetly not, when you'll know them better. Seems like EVERY short sci-fi oriented CGI Animation lately has one theme: The world is doomed because humans are stupid. Can anyone come up with like maybe a new idea once in a while please? Other than that, as usual, the artistic quality is quite good. BLEH. I stopped caring about artist quality after the 1000th depressing Sci-Fi Animation. That was well done. The story-line, CGI & artwork, entire concept. Yeah, there were a couple obvious moments that made no sense, but... I wasn't gonna stop watching until it reached the end. 3:)
I don't get it, either the asteroids at the beginning of the video hit the planet and caused the 'destruction' or it was man made, it can't really be both. The monologue doesn't match the film.
The birds and that little patch of forest with trees reminded me of the quote that guy said from the first Jurassic park life always finds a way.
same here
Yes! Jeff Goldblum. And those were the golden words in that movie....
All that futuristic, advanced technology, and no way of preventing a child from stealing your cybernetic motorcycle.

it kept talking about self destruction and how humans wasted their world but than shows meteors crashing into earth.

"Self destruction" means two giant meteors?
Meteors hit Earth all the time, however they always get evaporated into nothing by the atmosphere.
Now... imagine...
If we humans would erode our atmosphere.

Don'tcha know? ... Evil humans caused those asteroids to hit Earth. They were hit by a space probe that altered their treirtrigectory. Humans are bad.
well without the shield of ionosphere, meteors do real damage, so yes
I think the narrative implied that humanity fucked up the planet before the meteors struck. The meteors actually fixed the mess.
More forest, more atmospher, more the meteors burn up before hitting the earth maybe.
That was the two meteorites talking.

That, or something like it, is what I would expect biology to do in case of a major extinction catastrophe in our planet.
Sadly! they never think about where`s that clouds came from.

The entire premise of this film shows a fundamental lack of understanding of biological systems and the food chain

I like the motorcycle...but the helmets look...ah-hem...
