This is the studio version, which is great. The video is a compilation of various clips, including Live at Pompeii. Not specifically from this song. But the editor did an amazing job of matching up the actions of the musicians to the music.
With a friend from another band recording down the hall on vocals, Roy Harper came in and gave this the edge that Roger and David just weren't able to give it. This added to the musicality of the tracks.
Hi Rebeka 'Have a Cigar!, great reaction as always. Roy Harper's vocals fit the song so well, the line 'by the way which ones Pink?' still makes me smile even though i have heard it 1000's of times!. Great look with the hair beautiful, i can't keep up ( do you change it every week! ).
Darkside of the Moon, its own special category. Then I go to, “Wish You Were Here”, “ Animals”, “The Wall. I’m 64 started going to Pink Floyd concerts in 1975 in high school. I’ve seen all the concerts in order, I guess that’s why I like the albums in this order. Each Pink Floyd concert was a life-changing experience. Total of eight Pink Floyd concerts. The only good thing about being old is all the great concerts I went to in the 70s and 80s. Great reaction and analysis as we have come to expect from you Rebeka. This is possibly the best rant against music industry executives I've ever heard, but let's not forget that they also made the band members very rich. The letting ‘the music speak for itself’ is very typical PF. They want the listener to reflect on the lyrics and the important message and at the same time they want you to contemplate in your own mind what you think in yourself. They don’t wish to ram their opinion down your throat. They want you simply to reflect. This is why they are great artists and poets. 😀

A lot of reactors do the whole Pink Floyd "Dark Side Of The Moon" album as a sort of special reaction. Is another of their masterpiece concept albums. Would maybe suggest you listen & record your reaction to the whole album, then edit into segments/songs, then maybe after all songs put up whole reaction??? Just a suggestion, of course, but saw you did "Hey You" before & about to watch this, & though Zeppelin considered by many the best, NOTHING CAN TOUCH THE OUT OF BODY, SPIRITUAL EXPERIENCE OF PINK FLOYD!!! I was fortunate to see their last tour & it was the best sounding concert I ever heard-sounded better than the record!!! Not to mention the visuals. I also got to see Roger Waters (Pink Floyd) "The Wall"-who's about embark on a World Tour! So the sooner you get into, you have a possibility of catching THE BEST before it's gone forever!!! Rock On, Dear Sister!!! ✌😎❤
Satya, can you name any album which is not a concept album by the PF?? And yes I was reacting to DSOM many many times, and I think, anyone who listening to it, in sometime in their life they have at least one song from that album which hit them harder than a jackhammer!
If you enjoyed this as much as you seemed, I can not wait to see you react to, The Nile Song 1969 of the Pink Floyd Soundtrack to the Movie, More: also the name of the album.
Video images seem to be from Pink Floyd - Echoes Live at Pompeii 1972 Not playing "have a cigar" Definitely should do a reaction to the brilliant Echoes but for reaction length reasons do a "Part 1" version. (there's a longish "sound scape" which is in part 2 along with the ending melody / lyrics) If you do the entire thing it's quite long! 😉
Great effort by whoever put the video together. It looks like they are singing the song and playing the music! Cameramen/directors back in the day were so fucking hopeless at working out where they should be pointing the camera.
Must listen to Pulse concert 1994 remastered versions of "run like hell" (their final song in the concert), "Sorrow" and the greatest guitar solo performance ever in "Comfortably numb"! Additionally from their animals album the brilliant 17 life changing minutes of "Dogs" . All MUST for anyone listening to this phenomenal band.
pink floyd has a new song out called hey hey rise up, its a song about the ukrainian crisis where money raised from the song goes to ukrainian relief. the singer is a ukrainian
One thing about the Floyd's lyric verse a lot of other music. They don't keep sing the same 1 or 2 lines over & over & over. Since you like the Floyd I would suggest some of David Gilmours solo work. "Live at Pompeii 2016" "in any tongue" "rattle that lock". Dave at "Gdansk" A must " on an Island" "the Blue" and last time performing " Echoes". Dave has a backing string orchestra > AMAZING!!!!!!
Yeah, Have a Cigar is the one. Granted.. one might say Comfortably Numb the other then, in contest. But when people lived more in " The Alternative Scene" as it may be called, the arival of this funky number was literally the next song that had to be sung when taken in the context of what the alternative was doing. It is one of those songs that comes on the air.. The Beatles, the Stones had them and many more - in fact, all the truly great songs through time often have the quality of having virtually written themselves, their creator will tell you. And, having thought that through, there are of course hits brilliantly crafted for an occasion that have equal standing. But this one - you see, Pink Floyd's music was taking everyone on a journey, and we wondered where it was going. It arrived here, with have a cigar, with much joy and laughter, and perhaps in some a contentment and relief. All smiles. But I must say I don't believe a word the Floyd guys are saying about Roy. Roy was paid a musicians' fee, but he could boast to have delivered the voice that Roger Waters could not. We all thought it was Roger. If I were to judge the debates on this, I would say that Roger should simply say that he likes it I think. We are all friends.
In general, back in the 70s "pop music" was shorter songs & dominated by vocals. "Progressive rock" (which Pink Floyd definitely was/is) was longer form & more dominated by instrumentals. In that way, prog rock was more like "classical music" of centuries ago than either pop of the 70s or today's pop, rap or other music.

Neither Roger or Dave are good vocalists. They knew this and were honest about it. When they lost Syd Barrett, they lost a vital essence that was hard to fill vocally. But through sheer determination they produced masterpieces out weighing the original band’s expectations. This group are one of the very few true poetical wonders. To me,they are on a level with the Beatles, and in some ways they surpass even them.
