I loved your reaction, I found Pink Floyd in 1974, I was 14, and I've loved them ever since. Here's something you may not believe, I'm also a big Black Sabbath fan and only recently I've come to the conclusion that to me, they are like heavy Pink Floyd. All their song lyrics have substance and their music matches it. Every song is like a little excursion, like Pink Floyd, only heavier. I'm hoping to see you do more Black Sabbath. Thanks again for a great reaction.
Pink Floyd is one of those bands, one of those few bands that listening to full albums instead of just one song is the best way. Every song on each album completely complements the next song in order. There are really very few single stand alone songs in their catalog
This song is about the band becoming famous. It's written in the voice of the promoters, agents and lawyers. "We're so happy we can hardly count" It's kind of a middle finger to the establishment. After "Comfortably Numb" maybe my second favorite Pink Floyd song. WOW. I listened to the end of your comments. You got it 100% Bravo!
Yeah, ironically lead vocals are by Roy Harper a famous folk singer. Roger thought he could do it but while he was out for lunch Dave asked Roy if he wanted to try it and his vocal track made the cut. I wouldn't change it, it's perfect as it was laid down.
@@christopherbiggers7811 That's him. "Hats Off to Harper." If I'm not mistaken, Roy also hired the phenomenal bassist, Tony Franklin, for his touring band, giving him his first national exposure in the UK. Franklin later went on to play with The Firm and John Sykes' post-Whitesnake band, Blue Murder.
For someone who keeps saying she doesn't know a lot about music, Stacey, you provide some of the most cogent and lucidly thought-out commentary to Pink Floyd I've heard! Keep it up, young Floydian!
The song is a studio exec giving the band all the clichés in the music business. The line, "By the way, which one's Pink." Indicates the disconnect from the band as artists. The whoosh at the end was the track being put on vinyl.
I believe that sound was the music being sucked into a radio…..to sound like it you were listening to it from a small radio instead of the fullness of the actual album.

Interestingly, Roger Water (the songwriter/bass guitarist) has publicly stated that, prior to penning this song, he and the other members of Pink Floyd were in the office of a recording company executive and the executive actually asked the band members, "Which one is 'Pink?' " 🤔
The reason the song ends the way it does, is because it leads in to the next song (Wish You Were Here). You got it right! When the music switches at the very end, it becomes a song on the radio. As it fades out, you can hear the listener switching the channel until he end up on an acoustic guitar riff that's goes from a song on the radio to someone playing in the "room" that you're in. When you start your full album journey, you'll really enjoy the way Pink Floyd transitions their songs. They are really a one of a kind band.
Apparently Roy was in the next studio when Floyd were working on this; Roger and David couldn’t get a vocal they liked and Roy had wandered in for a chat….seeing their frustration he said “I’ll have a go…” and the rest is history!
love your channel Stacey! The Machine in Welcome To The Machine is a metaphor for the music business. Have A Cigar is about how the ingenuous record producers schoozed them “And by the way, which one a you’s guys is Pink?”. Much of the album refers to how their former band member Sid Barrett was a sort of victim of the Machine. So glad you’re loving Pink Floyd!
Don't know if anyone else has mentioned where the name Pink Floyd came from? Rock and Roll got its origins from the early sounds of blues music. They combined the names of two. black blues guitarist from the Carolinas, Pink Anderson and Floyd Council
Fantastic reaction. Really love the description of maybe you're hearing it in your dreams and suddenly you woke up and realized it was playing on the radio. That's exactly the kind of feel I think they were going for and what I've always had since I first encountered this in Junior high.
8:59 I have listened over and over and over again. I know the sound of every lick, bass tap, keyboard, and cymbal crash. Floyd has a power no other band has ever had.
My favourite Pink Floyd album. To broaden your Pink Floyd horizon even more you should listen to some early stuff, with Syd Barret. After all, this album is about him ❤️
Fun fact: this song is not sung by any of Pink Floyd members. It was planned to be sung by Roger, but he, exhausted from the long recording sessions of Shine On You Crazy Diamond, wasn't convinced he could do justice to the song; David also declined to play the vocals, thinking that the style of the song was not suitable for his singing. Happened that the folk singer Roy Harper was at the studios, recording in the same days of the Pink Floyd. Roger asked him to perform the vocals, and his is the voice you hear here.

I've seen some rehearsal shows David Gilmour has put on in preparation for his tour. They are great. I believe his daughter will be joining him on the tour as she sings on his just released album. During a break in recording one of these guys tip toed nxt door to the other recording studio and borrowed Roy Harper , to do the vocals on this song. Master stroke

I haven't heard this song in quite some time. Listening to it now brings back MEMORIES! I was at my first Air Force base, RAF Bentwaters in England. Hashish was the drug of choice. I was a dealer. I liked your genuine reaction when you were teary eyed because of how you felt to it. I remember as a teen growing up with all those bands, Santana, Led Zeppelin, Doobie Bros but especially PINK FLOYD my all time favorite band. I still have all my albums from those years when I was a teen. I'm 80 yrs old and I still listen to Pink Floyd. Love your channel, thks. Octavio
Another great pick. One of the best takedowns of the record company mindset ever, in a different era of content creator control.
Great track. I love the special connection you have with Pink Floyd. So heart warming. Ideas for further Pink Floyd reactions: Pink Floyd at 'Live 8' 2005; David Gilmour - On an Island Live at Pompeii; David and Romany Gilmour - Between Two Points.
Hi Stacey, congratulations on your achievement 👍 I love your reactions, you wear your heart on your sleeve!!! And thats endearing and heart felt... don't forget to give Freddie (Barcelona) a spin if you've time....lots of love.. Michael from England ❤
This piece was sung neither by David Gilmour nor by Roger Waters but by Roy Harper
In my opinion your reaction is so accurate. That is one of the reasons I have followed you since I first saw a reaction by you. I am always looking forward to your next reaction whether it is a song I am familiar with or something new. You had fun with this, well I had fun watching you have fun with this. 😄 Thank you
Hello Stacy. First time commenting. I started following your Pink Floyd journey back when you reacted to Echoes from the Live at Pompe video. I have enjoyed watching your growing appreciation for their music. I am so glad you are becoming a huge fan. I really wish you could have seen them live, it life changing. But anyway, I enjoy your videos, and love when people discover past music and appreciate the musical craftsmanship of past artists. Take care
This song is based on a telent show called Opportunity Knocks.
I've seen some rehearsal shows David Gilmour has put on in preparation for his tour. They are great. I believe his daughter will be joining him on the tour as she sings on his just released album. I'm very happy he has another out and that she joined in with him on it. There will never be another like him. An amazingly gifted and tireless individual. Also as you will enjoy there's plentiful guitar on his latest album. Hope you enjoy 💗
During a break in recording one of these guys tip toed nxt door to the other recording studio and borrowed Roy Harper , to do the vocals on this song. Master stroke
English folk-rock singer Roy Harper provided lead vocals on the song. It is one of only three Pink Floyd recordings with a guest singer on lead vocals.
I love the funky keyboard running below the main instruments. I think it's a Clavinet but I'm not sure.
Well done Stacey! This song was a good choice and I really appreciated your reaction.
Hi Beautiful 🤩. Great reaction to a great song.
I haven't heard this song in quite some time. Listening to it now brings back MEMORIES! I was at my first Air Force base, RAF Bentwaters in England. Hashish was the drug of choice. I was a dealer. I remember vividly sitting in my room smoking some hash that I'd trimmed off a customer's stash, just totally tripping to this song! Not that you really trip with hash, but I came close with this song! Thanks for bringing back the memories!!
