Nice to see Kris Kristofferson looking so strong and calm and comforting. Brenda has always been such a brilliant actress, and at 77 still going strong
Watching this drama has made me aware of my own mortality. I'll be 77 soon and I want to make the best use of whatever time I've got left on this Earth
Oh wow! Wasn’t expecting it to be that touching, I’m sobbing ugly tears. It’s so sad watching this knowing that after this, Julie Walters did indeed lose her very good friend & partner in crime to cancer. The late Victoria Wood RIP.
Watched this as a teenager and I thought it was brilliant then even though very sad. Watching it as an adult really is a different experience watching it, knowing what friends mean to you and the ones you laugh and cry with. Both brilliant performances they don’t make things like this anymore.
These actresses are priceless. Both performances deserved Oscar Nominations & awards. When you find it difficult to breath & have problems watching the screen through tears, then you know what you are experiencing, magic, pure & simple. Thanks 2 more Dames to add to the list.
Stunning performances from Brenda Blethyn and Julie Walters. A very realistic film about the trauma of losing a close family member to cancer. After escaping to the Entertainment Capital of the World to make the most of Brenda's last precious days, Julie and Brenda come back to face the reality of their dreary home lives in the North of England. Brenda's final scene where she lays slowly dying whilst her family eat Dinner and watch the television is priceless and one which reminds me of my last moments with my dear Mother who also died of cancer. I feel this film is dedicated to those people who have been through the trauma of losing a family member to a serious illness and the Production team did a splendid job of capturing those emotions felt by family and friends. Thank you for posting.
I watched the movie on TV in 2011 with my grandparents who have now both passed on. It was such a sad movie and it really made my grandmother cry. My grandmother died in 2010 and my grandfather died a month ago. May they rest in peace.
As if America is such a great time. I’m American & every bad thing that ever happened to me happened there. Worse than dreary. Traumatising, violent, dangerous as hell.
I cried so hard at the scene when Dawn Wilkinson (Brenda Blethyn) died after she and Jackie Simpson (Julie Walters) returned home to Rawtenstall, Lancashire England after a trip to Las Vegas, Nevada United States
This Film from Granada. What can I say? I have never cried as much, and again, I saw the premier, and today, it makes me cry again. Julie and Brenda. What a team. 10 out of 10 for such an emotional and touching Story
This is one of the films of my life. The story is so moving, so human. Also quite funny, quite often within the film, with the strong (and adorable) Northern accent (I am French but I can easily grasp this), the characters are very, very powerful. The strength of the girls' relationship goes well beyond friendship. They are Soul mates. I have seen this film again and again and always wondered why, near the end, right just before Dawn dies, Jackie suddenly quits her chat with her ex husband and runs to Dawn's house. I was wondering, what the heck happens then ? Now with a few clues within the film, I've found the explanation. You guys found it too ?...
Given the incredible bond the women shared, I believed that she sensed that her friend had died. Even when those closer in proximity didn't even notice.
@@cousinsister69 yeah.. exactly. Remember when Jackie has orgasm exactly when Dawn wins and shouts. Actually the two ladies are so much soul mates that they feel the same things at the same time. There are other instances in the film.
The northern accent you identified (well done) is a Lancashire accent. Many of the English scenes were shot in Rawtenstall. I used to live 4 miles away from there and went into Rawtenstall (pron. rotten stall) for shopping (Asda) and the library. There’s also a dry ski slope there as well, apart from that there’s nothing there. The bus station you see the ladies standing in, is the same stop I would sometimes use when my car was out of action. It’s one of the most depressing bus stations on earth. 😊
this is a beautiful film i grew up where this was filmed in the Rossendale Valley. I moved out of the valley many years ago but seeing the scenery of Rawtenstall where i went to school and Bacup where i was born and bred
sorry to hear you are struggling with that god awful disease lesley. i hope you beat it honey age means nothing you have got strength regardless. you seem such a lovely lady kind and generous of spirit the world needs good people like you in it so fight this illness my lovely i wish you nothing but the best for both yourself and your family my darling x sending you all the love and best wishes and strength in the world xxx jason uk
This sad and funny. Makes me mad but I absolutely love it. ❤️ watched a few times now. We should all value every day. We should all value those close to us.
I was put in factory when 16 got excepted for art college for fashion and design something id always wanted to do but NO OVERBEARING MOTHER SAID FACTORY NEXT TO HOUSE I WORKED THERE 3 YEAR'S IT WAS HILLARIOUS WATCHING LISTENING TO ALL THE OLDER WOMEN THEY NEVER SHUT UP BEST 3YEARS OF MY LIFE SWEET MEMORIES ❤
This was made in the 90's when smoking was still common and accepted in many public places. In 1991 I had a fag after giving birth in the maternity wings smoking room 😱 times were very different and I'm sure she wouldn't have been thinking about blaming her friend for her cancer.
Don't know where Jackie gets her sense of entitlement from! She was so rude to her boss, and didn't respect the health of her co-workers. I'm very left and pro-union and she took the piss. People like her ruin it for everyone else

What a lovely film! Lost my 43 year old daughter recently to an aggressive brain tumor. I'll watch this again. And I'll cry again too!
so sorry for your loss Carol ♥

Carol, I am so very sorry about your daughter. Sending you warm wishes from Texas.
Thanks for years up post. Don't think I'm ready. Mom has early Alzheimer's

LV does look pretty at night. But it has REALLY GROWN! Now you can see the pyramid & it looks like an alien landing strip.

It turned out that Dawn's secondary cancer in the brain was actually related by the breast cancer that she had previously.😢
That’s sad
Anyway, stop it I know she is still alive, cos she did VERA. Sorry, pathetic I know, but at this moment I just can’t stop crying!
A thing of beauty. x

Was Dawn's cancer caused by Jackie smoking next to her all those years?
Not exactly, it was from the breast cancer Dawn had some years prior
