    These ink videos are so helpful to me because my nearest brick and mortar store is 3 hours distant. I also wanted to comment that I am a fan of the TWSBI bottles, which are quite versatile, offering several ways to serve different filling systems.

      Thanks Joel! I actually found I still have an empty TWSBI bottle I purchased a couple of years ago that I've never filled with ink and I may have to use soon, they are very useful like you say, and I like the crystal design with the heavy metal lids.

    Came here looking for a good Brown ink to get, likely will pick up some MB Toffee Brown… but I am very intrigued by that Robert Oster Khaki! Wasn’t really in the market for that color, but now I think I need to have it haha. Thanks for the video!

    You are one of the few true "Iroshizuku - Tsukushi" reviews on youtube!

      @@PenultimateDave It's a shame. I know people own it. I didn't realize it goes down maroon and dries to brown until I found your video. It's a color changer just like "Syo-Ro" changes from blue to green when it dries.

    Papier Plume is my current favorite brown ink, quickly followed by Noodler's Walnut. Keep the ink comparisons coming Dave. They are very good - informative and entertaining.

    Lie de the and MB Toffee Brown are some of my favourites! I pair Lie de the with my Sheaffer Pop Yoda M nib pen and they are a dream together and I also recently found Platinum Sophia Black and have really fallen in love with it. Thank you for the great video!

  •  Рік тому

    I have both Herbin inks but for some reason Ambre writes like a vibrant orange for me, instead of light brown. Love your comparisons!

    I spent the first weeks in my Fountain Pen Journey trying inks from various makers. Then...I experienced Iroshizuku Ama-Iro followed by Kon Peki.
    I've just ordered all the colors I need and favor in Iroshizuku full order. (Tsukushi, Syo-Ro, Kon Peki)
    Hooked for life...I don't need anything else...this ink is sooooo amazingly perfect!!

    Another great review. I have the Caffe Crema and it's one of my favorite brown inks. Two brown inks you might like to check out are, one: Lamy Crystal Topaz. A pretty brown, nice shading, and a green sheen. It's a bit on the dry side but put it in a wet writer and it shows off beautifully. And two; Diamine Roasted Chestnut from the now Blue Hour collection, no sheen but some pretty shading, also a touch on the dry side. I really liked both of these inks. You might like to check them out.

      Thanks! I do have to buy another bottle of that, I go through waves of using it massively and then not using it. I think I need to ink it back up and start using the remainder of the bottle of Caffe Crema.
      I haven't checked out Lamy Crystal Topaz but I will, it amazes me how so many Topaz inks are not actually what I would conceive the colour of Topaz to be.
      Diamine Roasted Chestnut does look nice! Thanks!

      @@PenultimateDave I was going to pull the trigger on Caffe Crema until I heard you mention "greeny-brown". Ugh...
      But +1 for Iro Tsukushi and Visconti Sepia. This week, I inked up JH Cacao du Brésil, R&K Kastanientbraun LE 2019, Iro Tsukushi, Diamine Bach, Rustic Brown, Macassar, Chocolate Brown and Espresso - Cacao du Brésil and Rustic Brown being my favourite at this time based on my pen+paper combos. I'm waiting for a new bottle of Visconti Sepia: I hope that they haven't changed the formulation since I bought it last time - 4 years ago.

    My favorite brown ink is Rohrer and Klingner Sepia. Depending on how wet your ink is it may show up as very dark gray with hints of brown. On cream paper, it certainly looks like very dark sepia.

    First of all, thank you for another great comparison video. I have a bottle of J. Herbin, Lie de The, but in my pen it looks like a washed out khaki. And my Ambre de Birmanie looked nothing like the amber color I expected based on the name. In fact, I hated it so much, I sold it as a bundle with the pen I had inked up with it. I've seen MB Toffee Brown described as boring or pedestrian, but I don't think so. I might give it a try. I agree with a comment that the swatches can be misleading. Ideally, I'd love to see the swatches next to writing samples of different nib widths. But I don't know if that's too much of a hassle...?

    Absolute brown is rather poetic. I like browns because they are natural and can be used to emulate the sense of nature in various climates. Lovely for writing and never makes the eyes sore or tired of them.

    • @PenultimateDave
      @PenultimateDave  2 роки тому

      Well it depends on your line of work. Maybe if you're a lawyer or an accountant, then perhaps brown wouldn't be the best of choice, but in an office, you can usually use whatever colour you want, unless there are strict rules for say copying and you need black or blue.

    The bottle of visconti sepia is from the Brunelleschi right? Probably my favourite visconti!

    • @PenultimateDave
      @PenultimateDave  4 роки тому

      Yes I think that's where it came from, I actually have I think 9 of these glass bottles, most have arrived with some Visconti's. You can only buy the plastic square pyramid style bottles now. The Brunelleschi I still like but the section does stain a little sadly.

    Finally, my other two favorite brown inks. Montblanc Toffee Brown, and Waterman Absolute Brown. Both are great for everything from journal entries to personal letters. These double layer swatches hide the real color of these inks, though. Which is why I hate swatches. Even single layer swatches seldom look like what comes out of a pen. Double layer swatches may as well all be black. They bear zero resemblance to any real world use I've ever have, and this seriously complicated buy an ink based on a review.
    If you do swatches like this, you need to also do more extensive handwriting, and on two or three different papers, minimum.

    An excellent selection as usual. My favorites in my collection are MB Toffee Brown and Iroshizuku Tsukushi. I'm rather intrigued by your Herbin Lie de Thé and Ambre de Birmanie, and might have to give them a try.

    • @PenultimateDave
      @PenultimateDave  4 роки тому

      Lie de Thé is a good brown ink, many say it's quite dry but I have never found it to be dry, quite the opposite for me, but then I use wet writing nibs. My go to browns definitely are Pilot Iroshizuku Tsukushi and Montblanc Toffee Brown, both very nice brown colour inks.

    Typically, brown inks are my least favourite for my cup of tea, but there are a couple brown inks that really appeal to me such as Toffee Brown or Tsukushi. Those tend to be on the dark side, which is how I prefer over the lighter colour ones. Not that the lighter brown inks are bad, just not appeal to me that much...

    When I started watching a newly released video, ads started popping out of nowhere and I have to skip every part of it which makes it the worst UA-cam experience ever! Answer me this: are you really frustrated about the adpocalypse? You know, adverts that started to pop up in almost every single video possible? UA-cam really needed to sort this out once and for all... I detest ads, they are annoyingly irritating and almost unwatchable!

    • @PenultimateDave
      @PenultimateDave  4 роки тому

      Thanks Harry, unfortunately this isn't a change I've made, it's a change UA-cam have made to force mid-roll ads across all videos on UA-cam. I have only ever set ads at the start because like you say, they become too invasive.
      Unfortunately UA-cam now enable it by default and creators now have to go and manually edit every single video on their channel to remove these and likewise do it with every single new video once published. I will try to remove the mid-roll ads but with the amount of videos I have it will take me a few days. I have removed it on this video.
      I completely agree with you that UA-cam need to sort this out and put the control back into the hands of the creators to remove it across the entire channel and not be forced to do it per each video.
