    Kon-peki is my favorite blue ink but I had no idea it had any sheen. I’m going to get a bottle of that Spanish Blue. Thanks!

      Walter Foster Majestic Blue is one of my favorite Diamine inks. I don’t think you can go wrong with it honestly. It has quite a range of character too depending on the pen/nib you are using. Extra fine drier pens its a very classy deep blue and broader nibs you get that wonderful red/pinkish sheen. Great fun!

    Thanks for the video, I like that you are now leaving a bit of the first swipe showing, I think that it lets you see what a dryer nib will show you versus a really wet nib.
    I think that Papier Plume ink is pretty interesting and I wonder how it compares to Bleu Myosotis by Herbin.

    • @PenultimateDave
      @PenultimateDave  4 роки тому +1

      Hi, yes you are right, it shows a lot better the difference between a dry and a wet writing nib. I'm not sure how Papier Plume Forget Me Not compares but it's a very interesting ink which I am already down to half a bottle on, so I may have to try and get some more or find a suitable replacement which is easier to get locally than having to import from the US to UK.

    I don't have that many blue inks. Being Dutch, I should probably pick up at least one Akkerman blue ink, but my favorite blue ink is Waterman Mysterious Blue. It just works well on both poor and good paper, has a lovely amount of shading on Rhodia / Clairefontaine. It's very blue, but at the same time feels like a bit off-blue at times. I really like it and since it's cheap, definitely a recommendation.

    • @peterpuleo2904

      I agree. Waterman Inks are always reliable and perform well. My Mysterious Blue has a bit of a teal tint when it dries.

      @@PenultimateDave haven't tried the F-C, but agree that the others are great. Do yourself a favour and try Monteverde Caribbean Blue at some point. Gorgeous tropical ocean blue that shades like crazy, behaves perfectly and even shows a bit of sheen under the right conditions.

    Kon-peki is also an all time favorite, and I also like Majestic Blue, although I realize that I rarely use it (perhaps because it is a pain to clean). I'm intrigued by your Franklin-Christoph, may be it is closer to Iroshizuku ama-iro.

  • @Richard_Barnes
    @Richard_Barnes 4 роки тому +2

    It’s good to see all the inks as Blue is my favourite colour. I just find ink swatches totally different to how a pen writes with it, which then leads into another issue whereby no one has the time or effort to fill and empty a pen 9 times to write with it properly, then ensure the saturated feed is emptied so it writes how it would do normally. 😂 Thx Dave 🙏🏻

    • @PenultimateDave
      @PenultimateDave  4 роки тому +2

      That's one reason Richard why I wanted to use the same pen, because nearly all ink reviews I've seen use different pens, which is good to see what an ink writes with in a dry or wet writing pen but you then lose consistency across testing multiple inks.

    • @llchapman1234

    Granted, I also don't live in Sydney, Australia or rather experienced Sydney in my life, ever, but I always thought the water will always be blue, but it had a slight tinge of green, so Blackstone probably thought that this ink colour is bordering on reminiscent.
    Also, some inks from the Shimmer range have both shimmer AND sheen, best of both worlds!
    I consider purchasing Kon-Peki from Iro because apparently it is popular by most fountain pen users. Excellent video as always. Adam from his UA-cam channel, 'An Ink Guy' is going to be reviewing Pilot Iroshizuku inks next year, so this should hopefully be fun to check it out!

    Out of these I only have Majestic Blue, Kon-peki and Arctic Blue, but blue being my favorite color I like them all.

    How broad a nib would one have to use to see any of these features in Diamine Majestic Blue? I have been told is very close to my Akkerman’s No.5, Shocking Blue. I use Np.5 in a Sailor 1911L fine nib with no effects, just a beautiful blue, no shading whatsoever.

    • @PenultimateDave
      @PenultimateDave  4 роки тому +1

      It's not necessarily how broad a nib you'd need but how wet it writes. Typically you do find broader nibs tend to write more wetter, but you really want a more wet writing nib. Something like a Visconti nib that writes like a firehose I would say, you can still see sheen on medium nibs although I typically find sheen occurs more on a broad up to a 1.3mm stub nib.

      Hi Dawud, I've actually kept all the swatches and it's been something I've been meaning to do and perhaps put a section on my website at www.penultimatedave.com but I just haven't had the time yet. I want to make sure if I do it that I get the colour coding correct as it's easy to mismatch what they look like as you'll probably see from a lot of online swatches of ink from various retailers.

    Is Lamy Blue the same as the cartridges that are supplied with their pens? I've tried to use the cartridges but the ink is extremely dry and I can't use it. I have a lot of bottles of ink but none from Lamy.

    • @PenultimateDave
      @PenultimateDave  4 роки тому

      Yes I believe it is the same ink provided in the cartridges. You may find though in cartridges that sometimes the water can evaporate out and that can make the consistency a little different depending on how long the cartridges have been stored for.

    How do you protect your inks during long term storage?

    • @PenultimateDave
      @PenultimateDave  4 роки тому +2

      I store them all in their original boxes. At one point I wanted to display the bottles on shelves until I realised I had far too many inks, now sitting over 300 bottles. So I typically store them in their original boxes, some are on shelves but others are in drawers where the bottles aren't too tall.
