Thank you so much Dave. Gorgeous selection of blue inks - I want them all.. I've used black ink all my life but you have inspired me to branch out. Love your channel.
I got my first pen today from the hobby lobby. I initially bought it to help my wife make little touches for her business making hand written sealed letters to send out with orders. But now I think I want to start writing letters because in practicing it was quite enjoyable.
I find my favourite blue currently is Diamine Sargasso Sea... it was Asa Blue for a while though... Thanks for doing these ink comparison videos, they are very helpful!
Really loved the Skull and Roses best! It was nice to finally see the depth of its sheening properties. Good choices, here Dave. Diamine Arctic Blue is awesome and so is Diamine Blue Pearl as well as Havasu Turquoise. I suppose you could do a whole video just on Turquoise inks:)
Props for Parker quink blue.. my school ink of choice, although we were allowed MB Royal Blue as well, but everything had to be in cartridges.. given what a bunch of heathens we were as kids I understand why. Also picking up some Australian Sky Blue now, as for Blue inks not featured, maybe some cobalt blue shades?
Heyya Dave, could you please make a must have inks video or a beginners must have inks, love you videos they are very helpful thank you please keep ‘em coming
Hi Catherine, it's hard getting hold of a lot of the Noodlers here in the UK unfortunately, there are some I can get from Pure Pens but they have a very small selection of what Noodlers offer.
Another wonderful comparison, thank you! I’ll have to give Asa-Gao another look, do you feel like it’s an outlier in Iroshizuku being a bit dry? I find most of them to be on the wet side to work in relatively dry Pilot pens
Typically I find most of Iroshizuku inks fairly wet but there can be a few that tend to be more on the dry side, but it also depends on how wet the nib and how broad the nib is.
Thank you for all the good comparison videos. They are quite informative specially for a novice like me. I must admit that after watching your videos I walk away with my head spinning trying to make purchasing decisions based of some of the properties of these inks. If I may I wish you would speak a little more about drying time when comparing some of these inks. Also so direct comparison between the very popular DIAMINE, EDELSTEINS, AND IROSHIZUKUS. I am still looking for a direct comparison of EDELSTEIN TOPAZ Vs PILOT KON PEKI Vs DIAMINE ROYAL BLUE. Throw in there EDELSTEIN SAPPHIRE for bonus. It comes to a point when they are all blue and look close the same. So what would be the decisive factor to choose one Vs the other? Again thank your greatly!!! Peter
The drying times mostly are a factor of how wet a nib or wide a nib you put the inks in. Although some inks may be wetter than others it's difficult to really know for sure how much longer a wetter ink will remain wet for. Yes, I'll be doing some of my favourite ink colours soon which will be direct comparisons.
Fantastic video - any chance you can talk about the writing properties of RO Australian Sky Blue. I have found some RO inks to feel dry but never tried Australian Sky Blue. Do you notice the same thing some RO inks?
I don't have many RO inks, I have 10 currently. I've found some can be a little dry although tend to be inks that are gold or orange in colour. I haven't had any issues with Robert Oster Australian Sky Blue, I typically ink it up in a Leonardo pen and find it writes quite wet for me.
The pen is the William Shakour Titan, it’s a pen made by a UK Pen Collector William Shakour. I have a review of two of his Titan's at ua-cam.com/video/2lJrH6Y4Ebw/v-deo.html and another one at ua-cam.com/video/dweMrPGta5s/v-deo.html He doesn’t have a website, he’s on Instagram as instagram.com/williamshakour and can make pens to order.
Another great video. I am fairly sure that when companies, perhaps other than Japanese ones, use ASA it is short for American Standards Association. The American version of ISO - International Standards Authority. It is pronounced as in A.S.A. Gosh, that's twice I've mentioned pronunciation. I do hope you don't mind. It's not so important, trying to be helpful. These reviews are tremendously helpful and so very well done.
Hi Dave! Great review as usual. I love the blue purple color of Edelstein Sapphire. Is it a wet ink or do you have any recommendations for a wet purply blue?
Hi Dave, I also love asa-gao, it is definitely a sheening ink. Among your selection, I'm quite intrigued by the two Robert Oster. How do you rate them in terms of maintenance ?
I don't have any problems with those Robert Oster inks cleaning out of pens, I typically use cartridge converters for Australian Sky and Blue Water Ice, although Australian Sky I will also use in some piston pens. I find they flush out relatively easily compared to other inks from Diamine and Pilot Iroshizuku.
I always like blues like RO Blue Water Ice and Australian Sky Blue; they look great on screen, but when I have them in front of me, I always find them leaning too green. Between the two, which one, to your eye, with the paper you use (I believe TR 52), looks more blue?
Hi Chris, depending on the pen you use, some pens write very wet and some write very dry, so the single vs double pass shows the difference between a wet vs a dry nib.
Dave - I appreciate that sheen and shade would be affected by the pen being generous or mean with ink, but what about the paper? What are you using? I can't get a sheen.
I don’t need any more blue inks. I don’t need any more blue inks... Maybe if I keep saying it, it will make it easier not to buy RO Australian Sky. Blue Water Ice is one of my favorite shaders & Skull + Roses is my go to sheener. Have you tried KWZ Hawaii Blue? It is my all-time favorite ink. It is like Blue Water but just more, if that makes any sense.
Sorry, don't know why that is Tracie, have you clicked the bell icon on my channel for notifications? Maybe something going on with UA-cam, I know they've made a few infrastructure modifications in the last week, maybe they've broken something.
Penultimate Dave it’s not just you, Dave, I’m no longer getting any notifications for any videos and all my subs have the bell chosen. I went on my computer to check all the settings yesterday. Just a weird thing! Don’t know what else to do but I’m glad you appeared in my feed or else I would have missed this and these are some of my favorite videos.
Don't like any sheen or shading...it not the water colours of paintings.....ink should be like ink as of that vintage era....deep coloured and reliable.
So many lovely shades of blue! What a wonderful world of hues, shades and sheens we get to play with 💙 🌎
You have the best comparison's and they have helped me greatly. Thank You!
You are welcome!
Thank you for making these ink comparisons. They have been exceptionally helpful. Please keep them coming.
Parker blue surprised me a lot
Thank you so much Dave. Gorgeous selection of blue inks - I want them all.. I've used black ink all my life but you have inspired me to branch out. Love your channel.
Thanks Peter, wow used black ink all your life? Definitely time for some colour!
Love these videos - best of their kind on UA-cam! Thanks for the resource. Looking forward to Black Inks #2!
Thank you Harry for the very kind and generous comments! I'll definitely have more ink comparison videos coming up soon!
I got my first pen today from the hobby lobby. I initially bought it to help my wife make little touches for her business making hand written sealed letters to send out with orders. But now I think I want to start writing letters because in practicing it was quite enjoyable.

Glad you are liking the videos, Diamine Sargasso Sea is still an ink I haven't tried yet that I will have to pick up.
Sargasso Sea is my current favorite, too! So lovely 💙💜💙💜
Hi Dave, really like these videos! And also the "currently inked".
Glad you like them!
I love Pilot Asa-gao in a wet nib. The shading is quite beautiful to me.
Asa-Gao is great but that Quink! 😮 That looks so good and cheap-as-chips too! Brilliant inks 👍🏻
Yes I was surprised at the Parker Quink and it is a great ink for the price.
I just wish Parker restarted their Penman Sapphire ink! What an absolute blue!
Sir do a video on blue black inks good for your viewers thanks god bless
I like Sheaffer Scrip blue, also Namiki blue inks. I also use Noodler's La coleur royale and as you mentioned in your video, Waterman's Inspired blue.
I love Diamine Sapphire blue. I pen it. Those Robert Oster inks are lovely.
I love Australian Sky Blue! I've never heard of that RO ink before. I'll need to see if it's still available.
I am a new subscriber. I love your ink comparison videos! Keep them coming :)
Thanks for subscribing, I'll definitely keep them coming!
Hi,
I'm relatively new to the hobby and an finding your videos very useful - thank you.
What is the (dip?) pen you use on the video?
Really loved the Skull and Roses best! It was nice to finally see the depth of its sheening properties. Good choices, here Dave. Diamine Arctic Blue is awesome and so is Diamine Blue Pearl as well as Havasu Turquoise. I suppose you could do a whole video just on Turquoise inks:)
I am kind of addicted to your ink comparison vids. Ha. What is that big fountain pen that you use?
It's a 3D Printed pen made by William Shakour on Instagram at instagram.com/williamshakour
Robert Oster Australian sky blue 9 out of 10 times. Simply gorgeous!
It certainly is a lovely ink!
You'll like Australian Sky Blue! I definitely should look at some cobalt blue shades.
Heyya Dave, could you please make a must have inks video or a beginners must have inks, love you videos they are very helpful thank you please keep ‘em coming
Great suggestion!
Another great video. If you ever do Noodler's inks, I would love to see you compare Kung te-cheng to La Couleur Royale.
Hi Catherine, it's hard getting hold of a lot of the Noodlers here in the UK unfortunately, there are some I can get from Pure Pens but they have a very small selection of what Noodlers offer.
Thanks for sharing. Asa blue turned out to be a bit dark than I expected
Another wonderful comparison, thank you! I’ll have to give Asa-Gao another look, do you feel like it’s an outlier in Iroshizuku being a bit dry? I find most of them to be on the wet side to work in relatively dry Pilot pens

Lauren Stylish curious! I find all the pilot inks and sailor inks to be very dry.
How comfortable is the pen? It's looks very girthy in the holding section.
It's very comfortable for me, although I do prefer larger and more girthy pens. It's definitely the largest pen in my collection.
Thank you for all the good comparison videos. They are quite informative specially for a novice like me. I thought cherry blossom was dry as a bone but the others I’ve tried have been pretty awesome;)
Which pen it is? And nib size? Thanks for the nice review btw.
The pen is the William Shakour Titan, it’s a pen made by a UK Pen Collector William Shakour.
I have a review of two of his Titan's at ua-cam.com/video/2lJrH6Y4Ebw/v-deo.html and another one at ua-cam.com/video/dweMrPGta5s/v-deo.html

Yes i have always thought the same thing for ASA.
Hi Dave! Great review as usual. I love the blue purple color of Edelstein Sapphire. Is it a wet ink or do you have any recommendations for a wet purply blue?
I find it fairly wet although typically Edelstein tends to be more dry compared to other brands.
@@PenultimateDave thank you!

Hi Chiara, I would say Blue Water Ice looks more blue to me than Australian Blue, Australian Blue is more of a turquoise.
@@PenultimateDave Thank you! Blue Water Ice, in cart!
Hi Dave, could you include Diamine Denim blue next time, I love that ink and I would like to hear your thoughts on that.
HI Jáchym, unfortunately I don't have Diamine Denim in my ink collection. Maybe I will pick it up at some point.
I’d love to see that one too!
May I ask why you swab the ink twice. Surely this gives a false impression to how it will appear from a pen.Kind regards Chris.
Hi Chris, depending on the pen you use, some pens write very wet and some write very dry, so the single vs double pass shows the difference between a wet vs a dry nib.
Thanks for the courtesy of the quick reply Dave . Much appreciated .Stay safe and well .Kind regards Chris.
Dave - I appreciate that sheen and shade would be affected by the pen being generous or mean with ink, but what about the paper? What are you using? I can't get a sheen.
I use Tomoe River 52gsm for the Ink Comparison tests.

Ah but you need more blue inks! I haven't tried KWZ Hawaii Blue yet, I'll take a look at it, as I do like Blue Water Ice.
Parker inks are always reliable, and very affordable
How is it that you did a video about about blue fountain pen inks and yet do don't include the most famous one, Noodler's Baystate Blue? 😆
I am no longer getting video notifications! I almost missed this:(
