Your voice is so calming, if I could visit Indonesia I would like to visit your nursery and meet the man. Thank you again for another great plant care.
I have several of these and they love full sun. They stay green in low light and deep purple with short nodes in full sun. I live in the Deep South in the United States.
My mother in law have this in a big pot. It stays outside, receiving full direct sun during hot summer months ...it will flower when fall approaches, it will slowly die back when winter is approaching but then again its starts to revive itself during late spring. I think this is a perennial. It survived snowy conditions, pot was covered with snow. But when summer is near, you can see new growth on it. Amazing!
Delightful and informative video! I got one of these a couple years ago and have been taking care of it without any research- just putting it outside in the spring and letting it do its thing, then cutting it back and taking it inside around first frost. (USDA Zone 5). But I've brought it in without trimming it back this year (caught it before it was frost-damaged) and thought it was about time to look into propagation. 😁 About the pests, we have spider mites and aphids in the garden. Though our cobweb plant was sitting right under an infested pepper plant, I didn't see any signs of pests on it. The only thing I've seen are ants, taking advantage of the nectar from late-season blooms. :)
Thank you so much for all the hard work you put into this educational purpose and sharing with all of us 😃 I have grown mine from a small cutting gift from a friend and when it started to bend from its weight, I tied it on a chop stick. I live in Greece and I have it under direct sunlight watering it as soon as it gets completely dry. I have it for almost a year without pruning because that main stem on the stick has shout out so many little stems along its height as well as from bottom. I may prune it soon though cause it's starting to get heavy 🙄🔜❤️
In nature they flop on the ground from their own weight and propagate themselves that way. This is the same with all tradescantias unfortunately hence we have to keep propagating them to have them look amazing
Watch me as I watch all of this guy's videos in a row. You are super informative, many channels go " Hey look at this super expensive plant" but I love that you actually go into how to care for them. I learned so much and I'm already an experienced plant owner. If you get the time could you please do a video on how to propagate rhapidaphoras (hayii, crypto, tetras, etc) ? That's the main thing I keep killing 😫
really helpful video, i have a little one of these in early stage of growth and it's starting to get long so i was wondering what to do with it but articles and videos aren't clear except for yours! our climates match too so i know your methods will work for me :) thank you!
This is a fabulous video. Thank you so much. A friend gave me a few cuttings a while back, and I planted them on my front verandah in built-in boxes. They have grown and flowered prolifically and I am just delighted. It is such a beautiful show of pink and silver-grey when you walk to my front door. I am delighted. I have a question for you, please. Please will you identify the beautiful plants in the background? Is the one plant an Alocasia Amazonica? Thank you again, Elaine from South Africa
When I have mine outside it turns really purple and the fuss goes away and the leaves go thinner, when I have it inside it goes green with the esporádicos purple the leaves go thick and the fuss comes back, they suuuper fast to propagate in water hehehe 😍 loved your video as always!!
Mine outside often had problems with spider mites, and they would burn in direct sunlight, I do live in the desert literally there’s dunes just behind my backyard 😁😂😭🙈
I had a short stumpy one, but I overwatered it and it died fast. So sad, because I loved petting it. Though I was always worried that it would attract some pests.
should I keep my cuttings indoors or outdoors? I just propagated 3 pots and have them in a bright window, but should I move them outdoors once they root? I live in a very humid area with full sun year around, little to no winter. Thanks!
@@onlyplants I’ve had this plant forever and it gets soooo straggly. I feel better about the leaves it loses after your video since now I know it’s just the way this one is. And I have had zero luck propagating so I did a bunch in a pot at once to see how it goes this time!
So what do you do when it gets super leggy? I have a REALLY leggy one and I don't want to lose it, but I think it needs pruned back a LOT. Will it be able to withstand that?
Any updates on why the leaves turn pink? I recently purchased a "white velvet". Small, but a local greenhouse was closing permanently so I rescued a few Plants that were on their death beds. 😵 the white velvet is small but in the 3ish weeks of having her (my plants have gender & some have names too. Don't judge😅😅). About 3-4 leaves have turned pink . 1 leaf is a funky purple & is droopy, obvious dead, leaf.. But the pink are vibrant, perky, and healthy looking. So I'm wondering if the pink is normal? Google results say its due to a lack DefIciency of some sort if i remember correctly...
You could water the plant with insecticide of your choice. Neem oil solution or chemicals. The plant roots will take up the compound and up to the leaves. When the pests consume the leaves they will ingest the compounds
If they have good airflow and very good light they could potentially get away with it 😀 but its not advisable to do so in most of our home growing conditions
I’m surprised you wouldn’t recommend this for beginners. Yes you have to propagate them, but they are the easiest plants to propagate by far!
Haha their fuzzy stem means they can rot quite easily. Difficult for some beginners

Whoaaa thanks for the share.
I've had cuttings in water for several weeks 🤦♀️ no roots... thank you for letting me know!
Same! Looked for info on it because it hasn't rooted yet lol

Yeah they are quite pest free for some reason
You are an artist, i like your explanation, thanks a lot for share your knowledge. Grettings from Guadalajara, Jalisco in México.

Hello I have a tetrasperma video already up on the channel, will look into the others soon!
I love this Tradescantia variety. I have the Green and the Puma variety. Such easy care with beautiful rewards!
Too bad we weren't neighbors. LOL. I would enjoy sharing my plant obsession with you.
🙈
Hi
Already I have that lovely tradiscantia.. family
Thanks a lot for your tips are amazing sr.

Oh good, I don’t have to worry about brown spots by over watering. I can just cut it and propagate. Thanks for the tip, Sean!
Your videos are great...
Informative, fun, and love your sense of humor...
Keep putting out videos, my plants love it...
😀😀
I got mine as a ‘weed’ from the nursery… it’s such an underappreciated plant here:””((
Even though they’re gorgeous … mine’s purple
I need to get at least one pot of mine purple 🤡
Can we propagate in water after getting it as a weed? Please reply 🌱😇🫶🏻🙏🏻
Love collecting Tradescantia. Thanks for this video Sean!
Thank you for making this video
🥰🥰
I am a huge over waterer as well. Most of my plants are in my home made succulent mix so that I can water every day or every other day!
Also… YES… this was a great video!! Super educational! You’re the best!
ONE more thing… the pink is just sun stress ❤️
Nicee thanks for the share
My friend has hers in a south facing window which is direct sunlight and her plant is alll pink!
For parent plants I would recommend to cut it straight to the ground, it will grow back stronger
Yeah have to prune them often to encourage bigger and bushier plant

Its the alocasia watsoniana 🥰
@@onlyplants aah bless you. Thank you so much. 🌹
I have the variegated version of these 😍💚☘️.... Love this video
Did not know they came variegated! Haha time to search..
Mine gets purple in full sun. Also I successfully propagated it in water, roots show up after 4-5 days
Whoaaa tradescantias are the fastest to root. Thats amazing that they can be water propagated! Thanks for the share

Whoaaaa didnt know about water propagation thanks for sharing!
And tumbleweed rolling by… 😅
@@onlyplants lol actually yes hahaha sometimes they get in the way while driving if it’s too windy 😂😅🙈
This was very informative and interesting.
Thank youuu

🥲 they really do hate water
Beautiful plants 💚

Outside would be good it seems. They can be acclimatized to full sun apparently 😅
Thanks so much!!

It's really nice video
I wanted to ask if I put this on my desk ...where there is no sun , is it ok then ? ....and they are actually not growing up that much
They love a lot of sun… more than the average houseplant. I recommend to move it close to light and find another plant for your low light desk 😀
@@onlyplants thank you for replying 😊 i love watching videos on your channel ☺️
Saw that for sale here along with cacti and succulents. I thought against it when I saw the hairy characteristic. Maybe I should get one now. Haha!
They grow like weed, so nice to have around
@@onlyplants Exactly! I can barely keep up with both my green form and purple tradescantias. Waah!
Can we propagate it in water like other Tradescantias?
Some commented that you can for this species but I dare not hehe. Something about the fuzzy stem that felt like it shouldnt be in water
So what do you do when it gets super leggy? I have a REALLY leggy one and I don't want to lose it, but I think it needs pruned back a LOT. Will it be able to withstand that?
Oh yes they can withstand it so long as you water it a lot less after the prune. You can propagate the stem into many plants like I shown in the video
I though T. Silamontana has stripes, which is what I have though both are fuzzy

Imm I believe it should be light related. They seem to thrive in full sun but I woul not kick them out to full sun too sudddnly.
Can u do a video on the peacock medallion?
Oooh I dont think I have this one 😅
💚💚
Hi Sean, mine is prone to get infested by scale bugs, any wisdom? I hate to cut them off everytime they got problem 😭
You could water the plant with insecticide of your choice. Neem oil solution or chemicals. The plant roots will take up the compound and up to the leaves. When the pests consume the leaves they will ingest the compounds
@@onlyplants Thanks, I will def give it a try soon!
🤩🤩🤩🙏
My local plant store watered this plant directly on the leves and she told me I was under watering it 🤦♀️ lies
