Sean you can also start plants with the leaves. If you look here on YT there is a man who puts a thin slice of potato on top of potting mix and lays the leaf on top. You cut the petiole/stem part off. I couldn't believe all the roots that came up underneath. I would imagine it takes longer but it's worth a try. I love your videos. Success or failure you manage to teach us valuable lessons & I appreciate your time and effort. What a gorgeous variety this one is 😍💚🌱🙏
😢omg! It hurt my heart to see you chopping away at your gorgeous agleonema! 😢😢😢 - but, of course, I see the value in it. Very interesting to watch. Thank you. I’ve had two red/red-ish ones for 4-5 years now, if not longer, and only recently have I purchased several more, different varieties. They are all so beautiful! They have become some of my most priced plants!
wowww sooo pretty. You are so brave to chop it up haha. also i love your videos. I love how honest and informative you are. My favorite part is how you keep the updates in one video. Thanks for all you've shown us!!
I screamed in pain when I saw you taking off all those leaves 😩😩. I grow a lot of Agloanema, they are my favorite and I have never propagated them this aggressively omg. Maybe it’s cause I don’t have the heart to do so. Lol . I just cut and stick inside water- leaves and all. ( they propagate best in water in my experience) and they root in a matter of days. Your method gives you more plants but It’s a tad extreme 😩 Edit after fully watching: Next time just propagate in water directly. Cut the stem and put inside water. They have really thick and soft stems so they rot quickly when propagated in soil.
Thank youu. Actually I got greedy because of my aglaonema pictum tricolor video. Check it out in case you havent. Single node propagation was nearly 100% success there. Problem with this one is that both me and gardener overwatered it heavily.
Yup, that's Sean. Remember, he always says he's going to be greedy when he propagates. I just thought the plant was a bit young to propagate. But I try not to miss too many of his videos. He's so daring and that breeds his knowledge. A new plant person would love to watch his videos. Have a good one!
Where do you live that it roots in a matter of days? Mine took MONTHS and the roots are still taking their sweet time growing to any decent length 😩 tell me your secret! 😅
As you said, plants can feel gravity. So don’t cut the stem under the soil line into pieces. Just rotate it 90° and put it back into soil, and you will have a plant from every sleeping eye bye time. Whenever a small plant has its own root system and has done some photosynthesis for its mother, you can harvest it. Another sleeping eye will wake then. This is much safer than doing those extremely short wetsticks.
That's crazy that only the top cutting survived! I have had tremendous success propagating aglionima in potting soil. I'm sorry that happened... I know you were excited about having all those propagations!

Hi Sean, I wouldn't have cut that plant up at all because to me it was a young plant. It is a pretty plant though. When you said you were going to cut it up I was like what. I would have let that plant mature more. I have a peice of Ag a friend gave me and it is so slow to grow roots. It has a few more roots along the stem but yeah I ain't touch'n it until it gets real mature and full. Then I'll make another Ag. Yeah I was nervous with ya and then sad cause you lost everything save one peice. Yikes! your country sure has a lot of rain. But in truth babies have to be kept close to the bosom. Check out my aglaonema pictum tricolor episode to see successful single nodes Also the aglaonema rotundum episode. Ill probbaly make another aglaonema single node cutting episode soon. Im super hooked by this method 😅
I saw another vid of them doing leaf propagations and they did well with rooting hormones. I have proped the way you are a few months ago but not much happening yet .
You can murder the apical bud. (Nip off the top most growth point) or take a top cutting with 3-4 leaves to root that in water. The bottom should be encouraged to sprout branches
You can of course do more extreme propagation and then stick to the babies around the parent plant. But this takes 5-6 months at least. This plant is looking beautiful and bushy now by the way! After 2 years
Would be cool to know the parentage, the base coloration with the lighter edges reminds me of the "lipstick" aglaonemas, but the veins going outwards from the middle are just like on aglaonema chocolate :)

Its not that bad! As long as you can keep it out of the rain.
😄
Wow, that was hard to watch. So sad you chopped up that beautiful plant to still only end up with one plant 😭
Its lesson well learnt. that one plant is actually quite big now… I may chop it up again and get it right this time!
@@onlyplants after watching your video I went to Walmart looking for plants and I found a Aglaonema siam aurora and a philodendron birkin. They had a couple damaged leaves so I got them for $10 each. When I got them home the Aglaonema siam aurora ended up being three separate plants. I was so excited 😃
@@onlyplants Oh I have a question. What is considered bright indirect light? Is it just anywhere in a room that is brightly lit?
You literally fu*ked the plant😂😂😂
Haha yes 😛😛
Onlin ....... Bíblia.....planta.... PLANTADA em ribeiro de água a qual dá o seu fruto na estação certa. Preste atenção sem exagero de água. Deus manda a chuva , o sol ,a sombra, tudo no ponto que a planta precisa.
I would say you're too brave to cut it in a very little cut so it had less chance to live. But thanks for doing it, so I got a lesson and won't do the same as you did. XD
actually check out my aglaonema pictum tricolor video. Technically speaking this lotus delight should have survived but I kept it out in the rain and forgot about them 😅 if I kept them indoors they would have made lots of babies
